Crowd Conduct

Have watched several games this year and just when you think you've seen it all from the crowd, you haven't.
I'm talking fans, school representatives, family, etc.
Students sections are not as rowdy as they used to be, but what are your thoughts or opinions on the crowds?
Let's here it.

I was at the Whitehall at Granville game and one of the school members a teacher or administrator had to tell a female Whitehall fan to settle down and go back to her seat. That has been the only incident I have noticed so far.

You just haven't see the right ones yet. The obnoxious student sections are still out there. One is Cabell Midland.

Every fanbase has those that teeter the line or often go over it. The vast majority of everyone’s fans are fine.

I wish these parents and super fans cared as much about the kids’ academics.

Been to 40 games this year and only have seen one person get tossed, which was on the first night of the season.

I have thought that crowds have been pretty subdued to not caring in games I’ve been to. Student sections are loud for about 2 minutes…opening and final minute.

The Western at Eastern crowd was a bit smaller than I expected, which has been the same at 95% of the games I’ve been to as well.

Conduct hasn’t been bad overall, but that can always change over the next couple of months. Not much can top a fan being tossed from the Convo last season though, which is an incredibly embarrassing accomplishment.

Still seeing a lot of people upset about over the back and over AND back calls. 2 feet and ball across midcourt folks

I have seen a few people make "early exits" this year. Most of them were sitting close to the court. Which explains why they would easily be pointed out for whatever they were saying.
But did hear something happened at a Jackson game vs Vinton County and it was up a little ways in the stands.

Watched on Total Media Sports but the camera doesn't show the incident. But was bad enough for both to teams to go to the locker room.

Has anybody been to youth games, elementary 2nd-6th and heard or seen any bad sportsmanship that stood out?

Haven’t heard anything, but I honestly imagine that is probably where it happens the most.

I did see a varsity coach knock on the referees room door the other day and scream that his team shot 0 free throws in the game. It was true, but they also lost by 25 and I think the other team shot like 4. Best part of that is that it was visible from the gym. Great job there.

Wonder if this has anything to do with our ref shortage?

The crowd behavior at the games I have been to this year has been pretty good.

I agree, the attendance seems down, some of that do to the bad week of weather and all the games are online now.

Girls games seem a little worse, but that’s do to being able to hear everything because of crowd size.

Also, the refs have done a great job, IMO.

I agree with attendance. I'm sure live streams have a say in that. I think a lot of times conduct is worse at younger levels from parents and the crowd. One big thing I've noticed at high school games is student sections have really calmed down from 15-20 years ago.

My opinion... student sections have calmed down "during" the games, but are brutal leading up to Game Day. Social media accounts get pretty personal leading up to game days. The Barstools, and unofficial school accounts... yikes. Brutal.

I assist with a lot of youth basketball, primarily in a "rec" atmosphere. The parents/grandparents that get worked up the most, are those of the "fringe" players. Not the family of obvious travel ball/well developed players, nor the family of the "happy to be here" players. It's typically associated with the ones that "want" their player to be the BEST, but just aren't quite there yet.
I've stopped multiple rec games to directly ask a person(s) to stop negatively impacting the perspective of all kids within ear shot. They don't need to learn the incorrect way to voice an opinion.

All the games I been to this year have been pretty good, Best student section so far has been probably Jackson, i enjoy a funny student section….I’ve only witness 1 person get thrown out and that was at the London vs Miami Trace game…person from London’s side had to be removed

Is that including Freshman, JV, and Varsity as separate games?

No, but it includes multiple all-day events. Last year was way more too.

I feel every crowd has bad eggs at times but they don't result in ejections because of how far up the bleachers they sit.

Marietta had some really obnoxious fans sitting high up that were all over the refs less than 2 minutes in. It gets frustrating and annoying to deal with when you are just trying to watch kids play basketball.

Not sure what happened to someone that ever makes them think it's okay to accost referees, coaches, or even opposing teenage basketball players.

For the most part the games I've been to have been pretty mild mannered by the fans, obviously a call here or there where ppl might boo or question it but never really went any further in terms of affecting the rest of the game. At the same time here recently heard of an official talking about how terrible a certain fan base has always been and let watched him let that bias overflow into a game. I think back to 10-20 years ago I think student sections and fans not just parents were really bad.
