16-10?
Good God.
Boo me off the court if you want but a 45 seconds shot clock would not hurt anything.....just make a rule that once a team is down by 20+ points their coach choose to have it shut off the reminder of the game to prevent insane magrin scores.

A 28 - 31 score isn't exactly burning up the nets either!

So people who have no clue about the Garaway/Fort Frye game make posts about the need for a shot clock.
Could it have been "better defense"?
Fort Frye has only themselves to blame for the loss. They were the team not talking a shot. Garaway actually shot very poorly for the game.

Good defense...maybe, but both teams took less than 20 shots for the whole game. Don't think defense was the real culprit. Sounds more like poor offensive execution or unwillingness to shoot the basketball. That is garaway's game, and it has worked well for them, so it is hard to knock them too much.

The two big girls pretty much neutralized each other with 8 points each. No inside scoring from either in the 2nd half. Elswick went out for a trey for the only scoring by either her or Burns in the 2nd half. It took her several attempts at treys to make one. Burns scored 3 inside FGs in the first 4 minutes of the game to take a 11-4 lead, then Ironton called TO and changed their defense. There were 20 total points scored in the 1st quarter and less than 60 for the whole game.

You can play good defense and hold a team down but during a 32 minute game regardless of how good the opposing defense is, you will have multiple opportunities to take good shots and when these openings occur you need to take advantage of it. I'd hate to be a player that loses one of these tournament games in the teens and twenties that knows if the coach would have let them play any legitimate type of basketball at all, they would have at least had a chance to win the game.

Ironton seemed sluggish to me and just couldn't find their game today. But they are young and will be back again.

From the
Ironton Tribune:
http://www.irontontribune.com/2011/03/0 ... ort-31-28/
Ironton was a mere 11 of 48 from the field for 23 percent — their worst shooting performance of the season. The Lady Tigers were one of 10 from the 3-point line and 5 of 10 at the foul line.
“We didn’t shoot well. It’s that simple,†said Ironton coach Doug Graham. “If we just shoot decent, we win. But that’s part of the game. You want to play good defense and we did, but you have to convert on your end as well.â€
Eastern Brown’s deliberate offense struggled to get off open looks against the Ironton defense and made jut 12 of 41 shots for 29 percent
Eastern Brown will play Sugarcreek Garaway Wednesday in the regional semifinals. Garaway beat Beverly Fort Frye 16-10 Friday in the district finals.
In the other Division III game, Oak Hill edges Zane Trace 39-38 in overtime.

To the Ironton Lady Tigers, congradulations on your season. We watched the underclassmen mature right before our eyes every game. To Nikki and Alex, I've enjoyed each and every game since 3rd grade and will certainly miss seeing you both in the orange and black next yr.. You two are definetly a pair to reckon with. Yesterday just wasn't our day and I hate it for you two seniors. Keep your heads high and get ready for the all-star games. Go show everybody who you are and where you come from. Play from your hearts. Nikki, good luck next yr. as a Shawnee State Bear and Alex, I hope the best for you in whatever you decide on girly. Now, on to the next sport for both of you. Can't wait to see that conpetition between you two, seeing which one can hit the most homeruns. Get the bats ready cause you can't keep good players down. They keep bringin' it. One more sport as a Tiger.........This Tiger mom is so very proud of our team. To the Eastern Brown team, congrads on your win and good luck with Garaway. My wish for your team is to go win it all since you were the team that ended our season.

I want to point out each and every one that's runnin their mouth about Elswick losin the game for them. First of all, if your not in an Ironton uniform, actually contributing to the game play, or one of the young girls sitting in the bleachers not playing at all, then we don't want to hear you trash the girls that were on the court that actually played. It is hard to have a great game every game. Elswick had around 450 points this season alone. Any player in any sport will have off nights. No one schooled her. Both centers had 8 pts. and Elswick had one more rebound than her opponent. It was pretty even and both girls banged hard in the middle. Put the beers down and suit up next yr. and lets see what you can contribute with Elswick out of the way. Even the assistant principle from Ironton was saying actually the team was alot quicker without Nikki. Linn sit on the radio and talked trash about her and his kid doesn't even play. Everyone likes to run their mouth and lay blame if we don't win. I believe she was the leading scorer throughout the season with a 20 pt. game avg.. Nikki, hold your head high baby. Your play and game style speaks for itself. You had around 700 pts. in playing just a season and a half. Congradulations on your full 4 yr. ride. HUH! The whole team could've and should've played better. The game and the season is over. I commend each and every kid that keeps their grades up and puts that uniform on for our team or any team. It takes devotion and dedication. There has been quite a few people that have tried and tried to get this kid down on herself and she wouldn't break not through everything she has been through to play ball at Ironton and graduate from the school she loves. I apologize to the ones that have wasted all their time on trying to do so. Now onto softball where she excells as well.

I don't believe that anyone on here is saying those things. Your sentence stating, "everyone likes to run their mouth and lay blame if we don't win" gave me quite a chuckle.
Good luck to Nikki and Alex in all that they do after high school. They are two great opponents.
