Region 1 tournament in Barboursville, WV

The Region 1 soccer tournament kicks off this weekend in Barboursville, WV. There are only 4 regions in the USA. Region 1 is all the states north and east of West Virginia, includes 1.3 million soccer players with many of these players being the best our country has to offer. Teams from every state in the region will send boys and girls teams U12-U19, all state champions. If you are a fan of soccer you'll be blown away by how good these teams are. These club players play all year, soccer is not a seasonal sport to them like many high school players. You will see future professional and olympic players. Some Ohio girls are on the West Virginia club teams that qualified to be in the tournament. Come out and support them and see the new $2,000,000 facility Barboursville has put together. Opening ceremony at Marshall stadium Thursday afternoon and games start Friday morning at 8 am and go through next Tuesday.

Ohio has a team that is advancing to the Nationals from Region II that will play against the Region I Champion that was at WV. Blast FC U15 won their Regional in South Dakota and hope they represent Ohio well. A player or two in this area had the opportunity to play for this team but did not do so. That is a big accomplishment for a team from Ohio.

One of the best club teams in West Virginia is the U14 Rowdies, girls team soon to be U15. In the regional tournament they tied PDA Celtic out of New Jersey which at the time was ranked #5 in the nation by gotsoccer. PDA actually finished second in the regional tournament loosing 1-0 to winner Mass. Mass is ranked #1 in the nation.

Must be some great Ohio girls in Southeast Ohio that wants to play on a team like this and play the best of the best in the country in front of hundreds of college scouts? Yes, Ohio girls can play in WV. This team has girls from Ky and OH already. Contact the West Virginia Soccer Club for details.

Scott, Starner , and Jones of Warren along with Morrison, Hill, Schwendeman, and Stollar of Marietta made it to regionals on their U-17 club team also.
