Hocking Division Top to Bottom, What can we expect?

Post by allaces1 »

New to the Hocking TVC, what can we expect from the schools top to bottom. I know Wahama doesn't have a program or is just starting one; Eastern will be tough again with Coach Caldwell; Waterford? New coach how does that impact them. The rest I don't know about.

Allaces,

I am a Eastern Eagle fan/parent involved in TVC Hocking volleyball for the last three seasons.

Eastern - has been the league champs for all but one season in the past several years. Last year Eastern and Waterford, the 08 champs, went down to the last league match resulting in the Eagles recapturing the league championship. The Eagles return four players with multiple years of varsity experience and have several others ready to fill vacancies made by losing 5 to graduation. As mentioned, Howie, as all good coaches, is a valuable asset contributing to Eastern's success. His contribution to the girls goes way beyond his great volleyball teaching and coaching skills! The Eagles should be in the hunt again this year.

Waterford - they bring great program to the floor each year, this year they have a new coach and should have great talent returning. They have two skilled and tall middles that could make them one of the best front lines in the league. With decent coaching, the Wildcats should be formidable competition for every team in the TVC Hocking.

South Gallia - We have watched this program improve steadily over the last three years. In my opinion South Gallia volleyball will be very competitive in the Hocking division. Many of the girls played club the past couple years.

Wahama - Are they planning to compete in volleyball? Last year they were on our JV's schedule, but that match did not occur for some reason. It would not bother me if they did not compete. I feel that the TVC Hocking has expanded to too many teams which is not good for Eastern volleyball. Eastern, most often, encounters their best competition outside the Hocking Div. With 9 teams in the division and having to play each twice combined with an OHSAA limit of 22 matches limits the out-of-conference matches to 6, down from 12 last year -- sad.

Belpre - joins the division, but does not bring a competitive volleyball program. Eastern has played them regularly and I doubt that the other Eagles have come close to winning a set against them. Hopefully VB can get some traction at Belpre, there is good volleyball all around them and they have a couple convenient club playing options.

Trimble - as in all sports, the Tomcats take their volleyball seriously and play very competitively in the division. A volleyball season just would not be complete if there was not a match in Glouster for all teams to enjoy.

Fed Hock - has plenty of interest in the game, had a regime change last year, and they may come back more competitive this year.

Miller and Southern have not been very competitive in the division during the last three years. Hopefully they will have a breakout season and bring a tougher match this year.

Are there any TVC Hocking or SEOAL teams going to the Rio tourney this week? I know Gallia Academy will be there. SG just finished a team camp with OU at SGHS, but are not going to Rio. Gallia is also going to Cinncinnati to the Friendship Cup/Kings Island tourney next week. I can't wait for the season to start.
