Parents pay to play questions.
Let’s say the school your child or children go too, has a pay to play fee of, 300 dollars per sport. Let’s go with the scenario that there is another school in your county that has open enrollment with no pay to play fee. Do you send your child or children all of whom plays at least two sports to the free play school or keep them in their current school?
At what point do you choose the free play to play school.

When you cannot afford it.

wherever your child can get the most exposure to further their athletics. 300 is pretty cheap compared to a college educaton. it would also depend on the academics at each school.

If a kid wants to play bad enough they'll come up with the money.

Money doesn't make you an athlete. Pay to play will just hurt the program imho.

another way to look at it is you only get the kids that actually want to be there.

If the kid can't pay $300, but is SAY very, very good!!! Can I say, someone will pay his/her $300 for him to play!!! This will get dirty, you just watch!!!!!! I'll pay for you to play for our school!!!! This sounds like the dirty deals of college ball!!!!
Re: Parents pay to play questions.
JMO if its me they get to play one sport only. Pick which one you want, find a summer job to help pay for it. If not, they (if they want to)can go to the other school. As a parent it wouldn't be a freebie. There's a lesson in this.

Given all the funding problems facing school districts in Ohio, I don't think it's unrealistic or unfair to ask parents to pay a fee for their child to participate in an extracurricular activity - sports or otherwise.

Having had our kids play without paying activity fees has left us kinda spoiled.

I don't have a problem with paying a fee to participate in atheletics, but when you have to pay 2 or 3 hundred dollars that is crazy.

^^^^^^^
But what if $200-$300 is what it takes in fees to keep the programs alive?

I believe it absolutely crazy to have kids pay to play. I dont care if it is golf, the debate team, chess, football what ever. The districts need to find away to make these activities possible. If we do this do the kids that start have to pay more than the kids that dont get to participate.. I'm just venting because the kids have to suffer mainly because of poor money management and not enough community support tin a lot of districts.

Re: Parents pay to play questions.
i think golf in most places is actually pay to play with memberships and all. when you look at it from that perspective a couple hundred dollars doesnt seem that bad when golfers(and im not one or ever will be) have to pay a grand or more. just some food for thought
Re: Parents pay to play questions.
How about doing away with sports that don't make enough money to support themselves. Football and basketball and some places baseball earn enough to not force parents to foot the bill. Why should a family have to pay for their kid to play a sport that makes a school a profit?
IMHO that's double B.S.

Well then you get into title 9 issues, and you know that the boys sports will get cut before they cut any girls sports.
Its not as simple as saying I am gonna cut track for both boys and girls because the law is flawed in the way it is written.
