Congrats to West on the playoff appearance! That should be a good one in NY next week... You guys have a darn good team that seems like a solid group of kids. Go SOC!!!

And even though I wish you guys the best and I'm rooting for a Valley-West regional match up, I can't help but to be dumb-founded about some of the comments regarding Valley and West! When Valley beat West, after weeks of being given no chance on this board, only a small number of West fans even commented on this game. Now Mr UPNYA4 (classy name, lol) is shooting off again with the same assinine comments. In both the Valley-West and Valley-Burg games, The Indians lost the turnover and penalty battle! They even lost lost the special teams battle by a LARGE margin in the Burg game... Yet they were able to come out on top. The Indians proved to be the class of the SOC by beating each team in their path and doing so in impressive fashion. Give credit where credit is due and quit living up to the stereotypes! Your kids are classier than that, maybe the fans should take notes.

Congrats to the siders on a big win last night at the burg. I wish all the burg seniors luck in their life. they have nothing to hang their heads about.
My question to the burg fans is why did they not support their team? I was shocked at all the empty seats last night. It doesnt matter if they were down this yr or it was raining! Those kids deserved to have full stands and ppl cheering for them!!! I felt so bad for those kids to look up to the stands and see them half empty. [*]
Good luck to the siders next week against grandview heights!!! Roadtrip to cbus!!

D-5 is friday.

I'm done with the Valley/West stuff...we got lucky of course.

"Valley goes 10-0 in the SOC 1, step up and play someone and you wont go 10-0"
"Valley FINALLY joins the SOC 2, they probably wont compete"
"Valley hasnt won anything or beat Burg since they've played, and they weak non conference makes u ready for the SOC2 (eventhough most of us play the same OVC teams)"
"Valley won the SOC and goes 10-0, but thats just luck, they arent better than West (whom theyve beat 3 straight years)"

It's a no win situation as far as Valley goes on this forum where fans "know" something...It appears Valley is a "good" team, and West is a "great" team.

Good Luck on your state title run west.

Come on Coop. All they said was it would be nice to see these 2 teams play for a regional title but both teams need to worry about fridays game and take care of business there first!

UPNYA4,

Why are you so convinced that Valley played the game of their lives against West? I wouldn't call the area's best RB putting the ball on the ground twice in two consecutive carries, leading to West getting back into the game, playing the game of their lives. It's to the point in the season where I'm all about supporting all of our SOC schools, and I appreciate that you will be rooting for Valley next week. However, I can't help but revisit that notion from you. In all the years I've been affiliated with athletics it has ALWAYS bothered me when people take the route of "You only beat us because you played the game of your life and we played terrible."

Here's a little something for you to ponder. Assuming West came out flat and Valley came out playing like world beaters, what does that say about your opinion of West's team resolve that they couldn't get back up and fight? Now, I'm of the mindset that those incredibly talented kids at West DID get up and DID fight to win the game. Come on man, I would expect more from someone coaching kids at the Jr High level who helps pepare these kids for Friday nights. Please tell me you're not that narrow minded? Being passionate about your team is one thing, but coaching involves some objectivity.

By the way, Valley's all-time playoff record is 3-5. What is West's? If you don't know, I'll post it for you.

Best of luck to West next week. I'll be pulling hard for you guys!!!

1fan,

My posts are directed at UPNYA, which of course his grapes are just sour because he couldnt beat Valley when he was in school, and they havent been able to do it recently. Much respect for MOST of you guys.

Jesco;

Whats that record??

Well let the people doubt valley thats fine. Just fires the boys up im a burg fan but i would love to see them get "lucky" all the way to state. there is no doubt that valley has a great team they showed burg, west, and minford. heres to a safe and long run in the playoff's you deserve it. And boy's leave it all on the field every week and bring the soc a state title i think you can do it.

bdog, why the burg stands so empty? Why do they not support their team like they use to?
I felt so bad for those kids playing their hearts out in those conditions and their fans not cheering for them

Good win for the boys tonight they played with alot of fire especially on the defense side of the ball, done a very good job containing Shears, I was glad to see he was able to return to the game after his injury. I would like to give the young Pirates credit they played hard and never quit even know they were clearly out matched last night, and with the 7-3 season considering being so young. I would like to know why several of the Burg fans watch the game on the visitors side that seems kind of disrespectfull to the visiting fans. I would also like to say that I thought the officiating was absolutely terrible last night it surely did seem one sided in my eyes. To the Valley fans on here talking about our game, I gave your kids all the credit in the world after your win agaisnt us, but I will say, think what you want to think about the game and we will think what we want to think, but I will tell you this we played a terrible game that night and still had a chance at the end and dont be surprised if there is a rematch that there is a different out come, we are alot better team than what you seen that night.

I am guessing the weather had a lot to do with the attendance. Rain always keeps fans away.

Burg fans have always sat on the hill on the visitors side, not sure why.

This is a different team. Just look at the way they both played Burg. Valley played them till the end and West dominated them in every aspect of the game.
One note of interest is that West scored 20 of their 40 points in the last 7 minutes of the game so there wasn't a whole lot of "dominating" up to that point. Just sayin'.

Were you even there?

I watched the game. Shears couldn't move the ball on the ground or through the air. I can't even count how many times he was sacked and intercepted. Anyone that was at the game can tell you that West could have put up another touchdown or two, and Burg's two touchdowns shouldn't have happened. Trust me, West was dominant.

Still doesn't negate the fact that with 7 minutes to go in the game that Burg was within ONE score of taking the lead.

Two of West's scores came right at the end on interceptions of desperation passes.

I've seen West play multiple times this year. I really think the world of this team. I wouldn't be surprised to see a different outcome if the rematch takes place. But, you had also better believe it's a two way street!! We can "what if" things to death, but West had NO answer for Valleys offense and if those two fumbles don't happen, well....I think you get my point. By the way, when was the last time prior to this season that a team drive 90+ yards ALL ON THE GROUND against West?

West and Valley are BOTH the real deal and they will both represent the SOC very well in the playoffs!!!! Go Valley!!!! Go West!!!! Go SOC!!!!

I believe it is 5-5....I can't recall if there was an appearance between '89 and '01...if there was, then they are 5-6, as they lost to Ironton in the first round of each of their playoff appearances up until their incredible run in '02.

I appreciate your response to my post and I agree. I'm excited to see how well both of these teams play in the playoffs. Let's go SOC!!!
