OHSAA Board of Directors Update 4/13 Football changes
Re: OHSAA Board of Directors Update 4/13 Football changes
I think a game between Coal Grove and Ironton would generate a lot of money for those 2 schools since they used to scrimmage .

Empty....your kidding right. I was at the game and the stands wasn't quite full but they were far from being empty. If the visiting stands were about empty then Logan needs a whole lot more parking for the teams that do bring big crowds. I had to park in a dirt field down past the end of the stadium and it was full.

I agree, it would be a good “Jamboree,†scrimmage for both teams and generate some money. Coal Grove should have a pretty good team this year.

I can't see too many teams trying to get the 3rd scrimmage. You would have to scrimmage Tuesday after one or two contact days, Friday or Saturday, and then the next Friday as well. You can still do the "Jamboree" type of game and charge admission with only two scrimmages right?

You are usually a reasonable poster. I enjoy reading your insight.
But come on, Ironton's crowd was VERY small last fall.
As for the parking, all of our on site parking was not ready last fall. However, Lancaster brought 4 or 5 times the crowd that Ironton did and that was before they opened up the grass lot you parked in. The LHS athletic department advised visiting fans (through the athletic department and the Ironton Tribune) to park on Front St. and shuttle to the state via the provided school busses.
This fall with the school open, there should be a full array of parking.

THE DUST BOWL!I EXPECTED MORE FANS FROM I-TOWN THE LAST 2 YEARS FOR THAT MATTER. IT WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE LANCASTER CROWD. THE PARKING SHORTAGE WAS DO TO THE PARKING LOT BEING 1/2 COMPLETE AND LOGAN FANS HAVING TO PARK THERE. NOT FROM THERE BEING SO MANY I-TOWN THERE. OUR VISTOR SIDE SEATS 2000 PPL.

I agree, we don't have the crowds that travel like we had back in the 80's. You could fit most of Ironton in a 2000 seat stadium now a days, close to it anyways.

Re: OHSAA Board of Directors Update 4/13 Football changes
Each school that is going to be in a Jamboree has to pay the OHSAA $250 application fee to be in a Jamboree.
"In addition, the revenues generated will assist in paying the annual insurance premium, which provides catastrophe accident coverage for member school students who are athletes, managers, trainers and cheerleaders within the entire interscholastic program," Ross added. "By approving the Jamboree, our Board of Directors believes this is a 'win-win' for everyone."

Re: OHSAA Board of Directors Update 4/13 Football changes
This will help middle schools also. In the past, only having one scrimmage and only 7 games sucked. Pee-wee teams were playing more games than MS. This is awesome. Ky MS's play an almost unlimited number of games. I've had coaches from there tell me they sometimes play a couple games in the same week. Some people might think this is bad. But MS prepares kids for HS and what better way than playing games and gaining expirience. Teams with low numbers can get more reps and not have to scrimmage half line and just drill all the time. GOOD JOB OHSAA and thank you.

Heck, I played a game on Saturday night and then on Sunday afternoon back when I was 25, and I survived. An extra game a week would be great for some of those younger guys!

the only think i can think of that an AD or a coach would have against it is that it could be the game your star player gets a season ending injury in.

If you don't play a "preview" you're still going to practice instead, and you can get hurt doing that just as easy. Injuries happen, you do what you can to keep guys healthy and hope you don't lose anyone.

Re: OHSAA Board of Directors Update 4/13 Football changes
Wheelersburg has no one that they can play a "jamboree" game against. They play most of all the local county schools that are there size in Minford, NW, West, Portsmouth and Valley. Who does that leave, East? Norte Dame? No offense to East or ND, but that wouldn't be a game that would bring out the fans.
With Ptown putting in the new stadium, they could have an all day event there like has been mentioned up above. Don't know who would play who, but would be a good event.

Johnstown-Monroe may need a 2nd and/or 3rd scrimmage

They lost millions with not having the girls and boys basketball tournament .85inside wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:38 pm Hopefully the "jamboree" concept will involve charity work and not go to pad the coffers of the OHSAA. The OHSAA playoffs already do that.
