2011-2012 NBA Season in jeopardy

Post by ZacBrownBand »

The remainder of the NBA preseason has already been canceled. And If no agreement is made soon, part of the regular season will be canceled and possibly more than that after. Many players have already agreed or are considering playing with teams in different countries this year.

Personally, I think everyone needs to grow up and lose some of their egos.

Thoughts?

Who cares? They don't really play 'basketball' anymore, haven't for years. Would rather watch a bad high school game than the NBA.

I dont care and trooper i'll post my opinion on any thread I feel the need to. after all this isn't the " please come back NBA thread" it's a thread about the lockout , some of us either don't care or hope the owners lock them out til they gain some humility. MD

looks like a last meeting today before they cancel the first two weeks of the season...still staying optimistic hoping they get a deal done to save the season but it doesn't look like that will happen

Cancel until after the Super Bowl, then bring in the replacements. Worked for the NFL in '87. Until they get contracts like the NFL where you can cut an overpaid, over-hyped, over egoed bench warmer, the NBA will be a second-tier sport.....right along side of baseball!

Heard something about L.James wanting to play football.
Did I dream this or is it out there?

Yeah its true. If it came to that, which it wont, I think he would be a viable signing. He might not be a starter but with his knowledge of the game(all-state wide reciever in high school-recruited by most of the top programs in the nation), size, and athleticism he could definitely make a squad.

Hopefully they can get a deal done but I think there is a lot bigger gap between the NBA players and owners than the NFL players and owners had. I don't like the idea of a hard cap, but being a Heat fan I guess I am somewhat biased on the subject  A lot of people say that parody is good for pro sports. Personally, I would rather watch a handful of great teams battle it out than watch a bunch of .500 teams struggle along. When you have a few teams that are outstanding it creates a more competitive atmosphere, prompting the lesser teams to have an incentive to improve their rosters which in turn puts a better product out there for the NBA fan.

Parody-Something so bad as to be equivalent to intentional mockery; a travesty: The trial was a parody of justice.

Parity-Equality, as in amount, status, or value.

There is no parity in the NBA if you look at the last 25 Champions. However, the NBA is a parody of a well run league. (Sorry man)

They need to look at the hugh contracts where players just are not playing well. Where in some cases they are traded just so a team can have that contract. When they have no intention of the player playing and in some cases not even part of the team. To many teams never get a chance to really compete and when that happens they also do not make money. IT then because teams like the Globetrotters playing teams like the Washington Generals all the time. Where fans go to home games and cheer more for the opposing team. As a league it is not very good basketball.

The NBA has too many teams. If the total were closer to 20, there would be more support for those teams. Born and raised in Ohio but always been a Celtics fan. Nothing against the Cavs, but they are not and never will be "my" team. Sorry.

Heard Kevin Garnett was a one-man wrecking crew on Monday and nearly derailed all the talks. I love to watch KG play the post for the Celts but c'mon man, just shut up! You guys are doing fine. Don't see too many of you below the poverty line until after you quit playing and blow your money. That's on you guys. No sympathy for the owners, either. Spoiled billionaires spending millions recklessly. Who signs these crybabies to these contracts anyway? And now you need to be protected from yourselves? How in the hell did they make enough money to buy these teams in the first place?
