that was 4-12 with him. Yeh, a lot of players aren't going to play until it hits August and what checks they do get stop rolling in. He'll play.....or the Browns might trade him. I'm not endorsing Mangini's regime just yet but he IS establishing a no-nonsense policy there. Cribbs wouldn't pull this stuff with Belichick but he apparently would get coddled by Romeo. Mangini may not win but there is a new sherrif in town! :122246

The best pro football team in Ohio is Ohio State!
Back on topic ... I'm not sure Josh Cribbs is working from a position of strength in this situation.
It's not like the Browns couldn't go out and find somebody else to return kicks - maybe not of his caliber, but they could find somebody. There are plenty of young guys looking for a break in the NFL.
PLUS, there are FOUR YEARS left on his current deal! Josh Cribbs needs to shut up and play.

True. But the "Ochocinco" approach isn't working for Chad at this point. No other teams seem seriously interested in the guy and he's definitely not motivated enough to pull off a big season to make heads turn around the league. I think the only way he's leaving Cincy is if Mike Brown gets really bored one day, sacks Marvin Lewis and a new regime comes in and releases Chad outright.
Back to Mr. Cribbs, given the economic climate in the NFL he should just be happy to pick up his paycheck in Cleveland until his deal expires. I haven't read where anybody's been knocking on the Browns' door asking about him.

Chad isn't going anywhere because he's definitely one of the top 5 most overrated players in the NFL right now and other teams know that.
Who would honestly be interested in a kick returner (Cribbs)? And what do the Browns have to show for him, anyway?

Cinci didnot do what he wanted. He was under contract. Said if you want to play football , you will play in cinci. They stuck to there guns. Now he is a team player again. Hope cleveland will be as strong. They will probley let there best player go.

Why haven't they used him up to this point? Seems like ol' Romeo would have been pulling all the stops to save his job last year!

gahs4ever wrote:As I recall, THIS YEAR's Browns actually ADDED draft picks with their trading down moves. Besides, the Bengals have been a top 6 drafter almost every year for the last 20 years and what has it got them? It isnt how many picks you have but what you do with them (see Pittsburgh Steelers) and the Bengals draft success isnt much to brag about any more than the Bengals. It is why we are both perennial sub .500 franchises; a fact I painfully recognize but you are oblivious to.

Ya right, espen said bengals had one of the best drafts, i guess you know better. You did get a center, AND PASSED ON RAY FROM USC . Real smart. Superbowl teams were from mostly draft picks.

Cribbs, Browns still talking
Posted: July 24th, 2009 | Jason La Canfora | Tags: Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns, contract, Derek Anderson, Eric Mangini, George Kokinis, holdout, Josh Cribbs

For the second time this week, Cleveland Browns officials and Josh Cribbs‘ representatives held a conference call to discuss the Pro Bowl return specialist’s contract situation. The latest conversation happened Thursday, according to a source, and lasted roughly three hours.

Cribbs didn’t take part in the conference call, sources said. However, the Browns are scheduled to hold a face-to-face meeting with Cribbs, who has contributed to the team’s Wildcat formation as a quarterback and worked as a wide receiver and a defensive back.

Cribbs, a wide receiver by trade, has been looking for the organization to be open to altering his six-year, $6.7 million contract, which has four years remaining, believing he has outperformed his level of compensation. Cribbs has been seriously considering holding out of the start of training camp next week, and a final decision on whether to report on time will come after the face-to-face meeting with team officials, the source said.

The Browns, with a new coach (Eric Mangini) and general manager (George Kokinis), had been unwilling to change Cribbs’ deal. Mangini has a reputation as a hard-line guy, and this is one of many challenges facing him and his team, with the Browns also looking at a quarterback competition between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn.

Cribbs, 26, was a quarterback at Kent State. He will be in his fifth NFL season after entering the league as an undrafted free agent.
