First: Glouster has better internet than what I have, 44Kbps on dial-up which is mighty slow. I have heard some news out of G-town and find it strangely silent on here from the northern part of Athens County.

Second: I played on Boston Field before it was name Boston Field, and I liked it better before all of the renovations. The place had character, like Polly (Polley?) field over in town. It's like OVCfan32 said, the new stadiums, and the renovations made, make them cookie cutter. Nelsonville-York has a great field, just like the school I'm at now (Jackson) has a great field. But, like I was talking to a few of my former Jackson players a couple of months ago, there was just something about that old field that had personality. Kind of like Boston Field had places that held water and step ladders going up to the coaches crow's nest, and the wooden light poles located between the stands and the field (obstructing some views), imperfections are a part of a stadium's personality.

Third: Glouster Memorial Stadium has U.S. History built into it. Those light poles on the field are a symbol of WPA projects built in 1939/40 during the depression. Another field build during the same project was Newark White Field, which also had the same light poles, until a recent renovation.

Fourth: If you want to take shots at me or my posts go ahead, it's your right on this forum, besides I'm an easy target because I will only state my opinion and not say anything condescending to you or your program.

Orange and Brown: I can take some ribbing, but it's like prison (not that I've been) you have to at least throw a punch or two to keep people from walking on you.

I'm starting up a page on trimblefootball.com for the Trimble Nelsonville-York rivalry, I'm using the top ten Trimble/Nelsonville-York games that Rusty Martin had on his show a few years ago as a place to start. It will include brief stories, some pictures and some links to video for some of the game. Nelsonville-York fans will see some of the footage I have of the 1978 and 1981 Tomcat/Buckeye match-ups, and like Rusty did on his show, I'll keep it neutral.

I THINK THE BEST ATMOSPHERE IS NY VS TRIMBLE AT EITHER FEILD. I DID GO TO THE LOGAN VS DUBLIN JEROME GAME AND THEY HAVE A REALLY NICE FEILD.. I HOPE LOGAN GOES 10-0 AND THROUGH THE PLAYOFFS. I HOPE TRIMBLE GOES 9-1 AND THROUGH THE PLAYOFFS, AND NY 10- THROUGH THE PLAYOFFS EVEN THOUGH ITS GOING TO BE A CHALLANGE AT THE TANK  GOODLUCK ATHENS COUNTY TEAMS AND LOGAN CANT WAIT TILL WEEK 1 BUT WE DO HAVE SOME SCRIMMAGES AND JAMBOREES COMING UP IN A FEW

In 1998 I was a freshmen returning kickoffs at Chesapeake, and we played Wheelersburg in the first round of the playoffs at the Tank.

It was amazing playing there. Nothing beats it.

Me being me I decided to cover all of the games in the rivalry not just the top ten. I'll get the first page done today and then create links off of it.

Ok, ok, NY has a nice place to play football. Logan’s old Stadium was an amazing yet very intimidating place to play football. I have had the pleasure of playing as a freshman, a JV player and as a Varsity Football player on that old field. I have also coached my own team from Marietta on that field. As a visitor to the field you feel small. From when you would walk down to that field from a locker room in the school, from the bell after the game to the fact that you had to stare at that packed house across from u. oh after all that you had to try and win in the mist of all that. There are also many other great places to play around to SEOAL and also Parkersburg’s Stadium Field is very impressive.

I may be a little bias, but there is no place like Don Drum Stadium. It has history and a great look and no matter what sort of season we are having the home stands are rocking. I am not sure what year, but I remember b4 I was back at Marietta coaching there was a game at Don Drum, Marietta playing Parkersburg South High School there was like over 10000 people there. The stands were full on both sides, both fences around the endzones were full with standing room only people. This was the night the Tigers beat the eventual West Virginia State champs. Talk about atmosphere, the Tiger Den was on fire that night.
One more thing I don’t have an exact count on the 10,000 people that were there, so give or take some people.

WOW! the vistors dressing in the old pool locker room. thats going way back. that was our locker room in 8th grade football. that was so crappy!! i was so embaressed we didn't have a decent place for the vistors to get ready. but, i got to admit. the old metal cleats sound pretty cool on the pavement when teams walked acrossed the street to the field.

Don't get me wrong..I love the new Chieftain stadium...but it's never going to be able to top that.

Gotta agree with you on that

Let 'em win state this year and the new stadium will be remembered forever.

I can't say that I have ever played in any other place that gave me the feeling that Tank's Stadium does to you. It is like playing in a pro stadium...where hall of fame ballplayers played in the past..it's like being a part of history...when you are under the bleachers...listening to the crowd...and the band playing...while playing for two hall of fame coaches...in Bob Lutz and Mike Burcham....to name a couple...listening to Gene Jones's speech...before we got ready to go out onto the field...really a special place...even now..when my son played there last season for the B-team football...it still gave me chills...and the looks on the kids faces when they first got to warm up on the field...it is special

Spartan Stadium was also nice...A ton of history...just as the Tank...So much more atmosphere in the older stadiums...I agree it would have been awesome had they spent the money that was spent building the new one...on refurbishing the old one correctly.....I hate to think about what they have lost by going to the new stadium...although the new one will be great in it's own way...the new stadiums kinda seem like you are going to a baseball stadium to watch football to me...although I have been spoiled living in Ironton my whole life...every time ironton and portsmouth play though..it's a special atmosphere...no matter if either school is good or bad...or where they play...remember the season we played three times...all three were nail biters.

Never seen a high school game that would compare to the 1986 Ironton and Cape game...when the duck flew in...if you didn't see this game and you were an ironton fan...you really should buy the highlight of the game...best game ever...

Least favorite place to play....Bellaire...if you are an Ironton fan and have taken the trip...you will understand...

I Was at the 1986 Cape - Ironton game with my dad. That was quite a night with a great football game and the Earle of Bruce flying in, what could have been better for that night. IMO these are the top 5 regular season atmospheres I've experienced in my 45 or so years of watching many high school football games all over Ohio and West Virginia (excluding playoffs and state finals which are in a realm by themselves).

1. Grove City (Crazy, most always in DI playoff hunt, epitome of community, everyone on top of and around field, a noise level where you can't here yourself think most of the time).

2. Logan (The "Old" Hilltop, down in valley, school looking at visitor side like a big monster, houses overlooking the field, cemetery above the East (visitor) side of field, aah: atmosphere).

3. Ironton (Winning tradition with numerous good coaches, very "Old School 1930's atmosphere", overhang on home side, fans close to the action, very knowledgeable and down to earth fans).

4. Winfield, WV (Coach Leon McCoy era, "Old" field behind old high school, field had building to the front and woods and hill to the back, state titles and numerous playoff appearances, epitome of "this is our house", tough place to play.

5. Sheridan (Another winning tradition, "Children of the Corn" as I call them as the field is surrounded by acres and acres of cornfields in farm country, home stands very close to the field, electric atmosphere when playing rivalries the likes of New Lexington or Newark Catholic in regular season).

P.S. - These new stadiums just don't do much for me, they look good but some have the bleachers 50 yards from the field, restrooms where you have to walk a mile, all have to have brand new tracks which put fans even further from the action, with new fields in a lot of places you now have to pay to park. Oh, well - time marches on but you always have the memories !!!!!

Touching the Buckeye, "... and the cannon booms", the crazy fans with their cowbells, and channel 5 always made NY an incredible experience for me... oh yeah and the success

they've gotta definitly more the band closer to the fans. the vistors get there band right next to them. i don't want our band in the stands with us but alot closer would be a h3llva lot nicer. you have to have a belltone to hear them    :122246

Playing at Spartan can be tough when it gets windy or rainy, and especially if Portsmouth draws a big crowd.
