Great post. I couldn't agree more with every comment made. I thought this game would be much closer but we beat them to a pulp! Congratulations Burg! P.A. announcer was great!

Good post.
When you have played as many games as Portsmouth has in their history, there are going to be some blow outs both ways. Those individual games don't define a program. How they work and play the next week does way more to define a team and its character.

In all honesty, to only give up 40+ points 30 some times in over 100 years speaks a lot about Portsmouth's football history. There are a lot of teams who probably give up 40 points at least 2 or 3 times a season.

They scored 76 points in a game back in '55 or '56. One guy (an end) scored 37 of those points.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- all i can say is i'm glad we played solid football against the burg, because last night's effort. at gallipolis, was not very good. and not quite syure where they got the officials, but they kept that game much closer than it should have been.MuletownManiac wrote:WOW....WOW....Im sitting here stunned right now....where was this Burg team when they played Ironton. I really thought PHS had something this year, But I think the new stadium and new uniforms jacked them up for the West game and they only won by 1 point. SP has not won a game yet. PHS should have lost by no worse than two TDs. I think this game shows that 1-9 last year is not going to be any different. PHS has a great QB and WR and thats about it. They will go 2-8 this year with the sch they have to play.
Getting beat is one thing, getting embarrassed is uncalled for.

Just more evidence to back up my prediction that Burg won't lose a game in SOCII play.
Possibly the best team in region 19 but they'll certainly be playing a 1st-round home game.

Not going to say the Burg ran the score up because it is our job to stop them and we did not. I am wondering why we did not run a continues clock? I know back when PHS made its runs from 2000-2002 we ran continues clock in several games in the second half to keep from putting these kinds of scores up against some opponents. I may be wrong by I believe that the 2000 Burg game when the Trojans won 45-0 was one of these times

Take away the two scores Wheelersburg subs made and that makes it 54-14... a difference of 40 points.... fewer than the 45-0 you mentioned beating them in 2000. And 7 of your 14 was scored by your starting QB and WR against subs. My goodness, what more do you expect them to do, play the waterboy?? The starters worked hard all week too in preparation of this game and they want and deserve to play too and truthfully they need the reps. Surely you don't expect them to go sit down after the 1st quarter do you ?
I saw the game and I sincerely believe the score could easily been 88-7 if they had wanted.
No disrespect meant but I think you got off pretty easy myself.
It was just one of those games where everything went right for one side and wrong for the other side. It happens now and then. I'm certain that it wasn't Wheelersburg's intention to embarrass anybody at all.
Re: Wheelersburg 68 Portsmouth 14
Have you ever stopped to think that maybe phs does have something this yr and maybe the burg is just that good?

Re: Wheelersburg 68 Portsmouth 14
WOW!!!!! What can you say. Congrats to the Pirates. They executed everything to almost perfection. I would have never believed that this game would have been this lopsided. Ptown came out flat and it looked like some of there players were more concerned about trying to make Bendolph mad then they were about the game. Burg's speed really showed on the turf. I guess that could be one of the disadvantages to the field turf that if a team comes to play you that is faster then you, then it can bite you in the butt. It was evident that was the case in this game.
I know this was on another thread about how many the home side held and I did a count while I was on the Burg side. I counted how many was in a row of each section and then counted how many rows were in that section and the rough number I came up with was around 3,000. It is a very nice facility other than the fact that there is no leg room whatsoever on the visitors side. If you had to get out people would have to stand on the bleachers so that you could squeeze by. It was funny because 2 of the sections on the homeside were almost all Burg people. You could see the sea of orange over there cheering when the Burg made a nice play.

Don't take anything away from that second TD. That kid was making plays when the starters were in the game. That TD was a great play, he went up and over one defender and broke the tackle of the second defender. Then to top it all off he out ran the third kid 30 yards to the endzone. Give the kid a little credit for trying to compete on every play no matter what the score. I think we will be fine this week and several teams on the remainder of the schedule will pay for this lose. Trojans will win 7 games and make the playoffs this year. That's been my prediction all along and I'm staying with it. Go Trojans.BigOrangeOne wrote:And 7 of your 14 was scored by your starting QB and WR against subs.

I in no way meant to demean the boy or the play. It was a nice pass, catch and run by anybody's standards. I was just pointing out to Trojan_Football_Alum that Wheelersburg didn't keep their starters in to run up the score and hold the Trojans down when I said that the play was against subs.
All the boys, both sides, played their hearts out and are to be highly commended for just being out there. It was a good game that just happened to take a better turn for one team and not the other.
I apologize if any Trojans took it as a putdown.
