You must live in fairyland or on planet Mars. Every fan base from pee-wee to professional complains about officiating no matter if they were good, bad, great or terrible. Its woven into sports - so just accept it and move on.

And I decry every fan base at every level regardless of teams when they exhibit that practice.

If you don't think an Official can control the Momentum of a Game-I have to question how much Basketball you have watched in your lifetime...With that being said-not an Excuse for Athens tonight. Definitely a Factor-I was there-When you put Eyes on It some things are Obvious-one Ref definitley called a lot more for Fairland especially after Athens was way up -But there were other Factors...Athens will need to figure out how to break the Press-they will start running into the Press against really Good teams-especially moving Forward-Fairland found a "weakness" And Exploited it tonight-they made the "Adjustment"-Athens will Learn from this One and it will only make them Betterthebarlowbandit wrote:VisionQuest wrote:Were you there???thebarlowbandit wrote:
Here is the let's blame officials post. Amazing!
Didn't have to "be there", the post says it all someone blames officials, not the play on the floor, not the positive efforts of the players, or the missed shots, turnovers committed or the effort that is put in by players on both sides.
Re: Beasts of the Southeast : January 14, 2017
That officiating crew is one of the best in SEO. They were consistent and called everything both ways. As for the Fairland crowd, were they obnoxious? Yes, but when you're 10 minutes away of course you'll come and make the atmosphere seem like a home game for your boys. Not classless of them to cheer and yell during timeouts. Not gonna ask the fans to be quiet. That's what church is for

Oh and they didn't "purposely" sit behind the Athens bench. For one, they were designated to sit on that side of the court. Secondly, there were so many Fairland fans they amazingly sat where there was room: behind the Athens bench!

If there is a Film of this game you should definitely take a look at it....my observations will be proven-And there is a difference between "cheering" and holding your hands to your mouth and shouting toward the Bench of the
Opposing team as loud as you can to cause disruption for the opposing team-but hey whatever it takes to Win...also to note-when the fans were ejected Athens was on Fast Breaks and in Transition and the Refs had to stop the game....So again whatever it takes

I was at the game, sat in the Athens section nearest the exit. No one complained about the refs and no one had a problem with the Fairland fans. The two that got thrown out looked like they were students or young alumni anyway. Not fair to say they represent the whole fan base

Have you anything to say about the Athens player that looked at the Fairland fans and kept pointing at the scoreboard? That's what egged it on

Player after being Taunted By ADULTS....I'm not going to argue all night-I know what I saw-and I also "have the ability to sense a higher truth"-Had a Fortune Cookie that told me so-So you go on Defending-I had a gentleman turn around and talk to
Me about Fairland Fans-he was a casual observer-didn't have a Dog in this Fight-I will take his word and go on what I saw-Same End Result-CLASSLESS!!!
Re: Beasts of the Southeast : January 14, 2017
I didn't have a dog in the fight either but had no problem with it, made the atmosphere even more fun for the players. But good luck to the Bulldogs on the rest of the season

Go on back to Athens' with the loss and quit whining. What a bunch of babies you guys are to blame the refs. Athens can't handle pressure and turned the ball over too many times against the press. Bottom line. Lutz is the best player we have seen all year but couldn't get enough scoring around him to get the win.VisionQuest wrote:They are adults-I would expect a little more from them-Can't blame thebbn77 wrote:Have you anything to say about the Athens player that looked at the Fairland fans and kept pointing at the scoreboard? We will have to Agree to Disagree on this one...I stand by my observations and statements....I have watched a lot of ball in my lifetime-And those Fans rank up there with some from Inner City Cincinnati I ran into in a 6th grade AAU tournament once....It's called Obsession and it is Unhealthy-But this is my Opinion-You Would have thought it was for the National Championship-parents having to be Escorted to their cars for their Safety-Ridiculous-If they act like this over a "showcase event" I'm scared about what could happen in a Close Tournament game if things don't go their way....bbn77 wrote:I didn't have a dog in the fight either but had no problem with it, made the atmosphere even more fun for the players. And people wonder why SEOP isn't as good as it used to be, too many arguments going on instead of actual basketball talk.

It's usually pretty boring....maybe that's why it is down??-can't have a "Spirited" disagreement there TVC Fan??...Wait we aren't talking about your Marauders that you Defend-Sorry....what's this Site supposed to be about-You telltvc_fan wrote:And people wonder why SEOP isn't as good as it used to be, too many arguments going on instead of actual basketball talk.
Me-I'm Listening???...
Re: Beasts of the Southeast : January 14, 2017
Now see I make a statement not saying names or calling anyone out or any teams out and you go and get personal...I listened to the game on the radio, Athens people and they never one time mentioned fans being horrible.
My point is, 2 people bickering back and forth will never end and not what SEOP is for. Trying to identify someone from the boards as one of the fans....thats funny, I might have been the guy in the red jacket cheering Athens on....geesh.

Your vision is skewed here because you are defending your husband and son, can't get much more biased than that. Proof that you are complaining that the Fairland fans sat behind your team in the stands, when it appears from another poster that was the assigned side of the gym. That's a pretty petty complaint.

What do you have against "inner city" kids???? Real classy post!
Re: Beasts of the Southeast : January 14, 2017
First I was one of the Dragon Fans behind the Athens bench but arrived well before I even knew who would've sat on that bench we were told that side was Fairland other side was Athens. Athens did have a player that enticed the fans in to yelling a little louder. When we started comeback but was still down 10 he motioned to the crowd behind the bench to look at the scoreboard. When it got closer there was A fan (maybe 2 ?)that were yelling at him to look at the scoreboard. He was still enticing THE fan by blowing kisses and winking and grinning. Maybe he should have been paying attention to his coach during timeouts. My main point is to label Fairland fans from two students being thrown out and a few fans engaged with a player that was definitely interacting with fans is not exactly the way our program or fan base is. Now... what a game it was # 3 for Athens is truly a great player we had players on him very tight trying to stop him and couldn't. Hats off to Matt in 2nd half for at least slowing him down. Dragons never quit, kept fighting back and came out with the victory. Vision quest makes it sound like it was just a game but when Pfloyd is in the house it's bigger than just a game! GO DRAGONS!!
