PALADIN, GO PLAY IN A BUSY INTERSECTION SOMEWHERE, NOBODY PULLED YOUR CHAIN, THE OTHER CHEIFTAIN POSTERS ARE ACTING WITH CLASS. YOU RHYMME WITH CLASS JUST FEWER LETTERS.
Hey Bait don't even respond to paladin, when he coached our 8th grade we did not pay attendtion to him! anyway good luck to both ironton and warren. I do know the feild conditions are at best poor!
Although the field has actually been holding up pretty well, with the rain yesterday and last night, and the rain that is called for on Friday, I'm afraid that the field conditions may be pretty bad for the game. The field could dry out some tomorrow if it is indeed partly cloudy and in the high 60s. A lot will depend on what the weather is like Friday. At best it will be soft, at worst it could be a mud bog.
The play of the line is always key in every game, but most teams do not have O and D lines like Ironton. In my opinion that is Ironton's strongest attribute. They win and lose in the trenches. So, more than usual, the game on Friday will be won or lost in the trenches for the Warriors. If Warren's line can hang with Ironton's the Warriors have a chance. If not, it could be a long evening for Warren.
So, here's hoping that the Warrior linemen step-up and have their best game of the season on Friday. If they win, Warren wins.

tl895, sorry you feel that way as I recall the SEOAL has been very good to ironton. You think you have long drives now, just think you might have to schedule teams from northern Ohio and maybe Canada!

As an independent, you wont have to drive to Canada. IF that game is scheduled, it will be a home game. Also, drives like Warren could be done on a saturday. I am wagering unless Warren brings 1,000 fans, there wont be 200 from Ironton attend this game. it is a 2 hour and thirty minute drive and many working folks dont get off until 5 oclock. That drive wont be made by many parents, let alone fans that have no kids.

If the Ironton fans will not support a team which is going to the playoff and has a very good chance of advancing then it would be no different if you guy's stay an independent. When scheduling most teams will not play on Sat. night. I know myself when I follow my local team I make prior arrangments such as vacation or comp time in order to follow my local team! Come on, I hope Ironton will not use the same excuses that the Athens bullpuppies have used! I hope ironton has more pride.
It amazes me how poorly many schools travel in the SEOAL. Then, you have a school like Ashland (KY) which, until this year hadn't defeated Ironton in 18 years and yet, last year, they packed out Tank Stadium to watch their Tomcats go down on what is now Bob Lutz Field! How about Belfry, Kentucky?....remember how many they brought and they had a terrible drive to get here too!
I bet Chillicothe didn't have 25 fans with them. Granted, they've had a tough season and this game wasn't too promising for them but still, they had what? 50 boys on their team? you'd think that at least 1 parent of each child would have made the drive down. Nelsonville had a poor showing as well, I realize that there a D5 school and it's a long drive but I would have expected more.
Yes, I know the Fighting Tiger fans haven't traveled all that well either in this league...just not a lot of interest in this I don't believe. Fans look and say...3 hour drive for a regular game? no thanks..and then, they get out of the HABIT of going to the games and I do believe, going is a lot about a habit. I said it would be bad 3 years ago and got trashed for 4 pages when I predicted that Ironton would be leaving this league.
There will not be alot of Ironton fans in Warren on friday night. i hope i am wrong, but dont count on it. I remember going to Zanesville in 2006 and Ironton had probably 200 fans there. Zanesville probably had less and it was their home game.
Moonshein: You are right about Saturdays. Most teams wont want to play on saturdays, but you do have that choice. in a league, you have no choice. Ironton has 8 games already scheduled for the next two years. they have weeks 6 and 9 open and I would say they will be filled before the spring is here, if not sooner. I am happy to see Jackson, Gallia Academy, Chillicothe, Ashland, Russell, Portsmouth and Burg staying on the schedule and adding Columbus Bishop Hartley was a good pickup.

Remember it is moonschein, just having fun, you can call me anything except late for supper. Weeks 6 and 9 might be a tough find, I know back in the day travel was not a big issue, but I can understand why it might be rough on some fans especially with Obamatravel in play these day's. Good luck and I am going back to to the swamp at the reservation!
nelsonville had about a good a turnout as about anybody but logan. portsmouth was close to ny but was disappointing as close as they are to us so yea tell me how much money the seoal spent at our place as opposed to the cash take at the other stadiums. guarantee we doubled what any other school spent on the road with the exception of maybe logan the last couple of years
i hope we have a big crowd there. i'm probably not going to be able to make this one because i have a surgery monday, and having health problems. but ironton has always traveled well. but as others have mentioned you get off work 4:30/5. then have a 3 hour drive to get there, thats if you go there straight from work. thats gonna get you there 8 or after. the result poor crowds, teams losing their butts financially. because of banking on home crowds.
I agree...I think there are only a couple of solutions...when it is longer than an hour and a half drive...the game should be played on a Saturday night or the other option is to get out of the conference and play schools closer to home....
Sad part about plan B is that if Ironton get's out of the SEOAL...as they are...then we have to get teams to play us...and that normally means a lot of travel...which...if it is a team such as Columbus DeSales...it would be worth the drive...however as Friday...many people just can't get off work in time...
I too can't make it to Friday's game...not able to get away soon enough...although I will be listening to the game...I hope that our boys go up there and play their hearts out...I will probably end up at Coal Grove watching the sweat bees....
By the way...I was told that we have Desales on the Schedule for next year....is there any truth to this? and does anyone have the schedule yet?
I really feel for you Ironton, Portsmouth people. It's a long trip to everybody we play at Logan, it must be about twice as bad down there. Maybe you should talk to the State of Kentucky about annexing your town.

The difference between Ironton and Logan...is that little schools are happy to play you to have a chance at beating a larger school to get playoff points...At Ironton...we have to schedule larger schools..because we can't find schools our own size to play us...so not only do we end up having to travel...we have to play schools that are much larger...Logan does play some schools their own size...but rarely plays state contenders that are larger schools than them...if ever..
this may have been brought up before, but has ironton considered asking the league for a football/basketball only membership? I have allways heard the real problem wasn't traveling for football, but as a member of the league every sport- from volleyball to golf to checkers or whatever has to have all these long trips, which is where the expense adds up. Or - just try to organize a football only league. (maybe bball if they all wanted it)
wowhesfast, you have to remember, Ironton fans will be traveling in the playoff season a good bit too. You guys have never really had to worry about that as you usually have either a 10 week or at the most, a 11 week season to contend with.

How would that help? I'm thinking that in Ironton, like most schools, the overwhelming majority of the funds come from first, the football program and then, second, the bb program so. I know at one time, Ironton's coffers overflowed
