You must be blind. How was Phillips still in the game?? How was Rolen? How was Cueto? I mean we could go on for days.

Phillips made comments in which he KNEW the Cards would see. He had a quick comment when he stepped into the batters box and hit his bat off of Molina's shinguards twice. The first time, Molina kicked it away. Then Phillips did it again. He knew what he was doing.

Take your Red glasses off.

Hitting the bat off of the shin guards is a long standing gesture of respect to the opposing team usually done by the lead off batter in the 1st inning.

Phillips said what he said, but Molina brought it into the game.

Respect?

Phillips calls Molina and his boys a bunch of female canines and then thinks it's OK to show respect after he disrespected the player and his team.

It's like someone callin you a female canine in the mornin and then comin up to put his arm around you at the bar that night.

Karma is a female canine.

And Phillips should have hit Molina in the mouth when he wouldn't let him in the box.

Phillips probably shouldn't have said as much, but he said what every other team in the league is
thinking.

I applaud him for having the stones to say it.

What a kick in the pants! The Reds used to deal out these types of beatings (years ago). St. Louis just kicked sand in their face. The upside is they only face them for one more series this year. And the Reds play the dregs that are the rest of the NL Central on a regular basis from here on out.

It's three games, and they are only down 1 game after the sweep.

The Reds have a three game set with the Marlins, and St. Louis plays the Cubs,
but they only have Carpenter on Sunday and no Wainwright pitching.

The Reds had to face both of St Louis' top guys, St Louis is 23 games over .500 when those two pitch,
and 9 games under when anyone else takes the mound.

3 games does not a division title make, especially when you have 47 games left to play and the vast majority of those
games are against teams with losing records.

if I was molina I would have put him to sleep when he hit me with his bat! not to mention he had 2 hits in the series thats why the cards win and the reds are losers

I know the tradition. My point is...after Molina kicked away the first one, Phillips had no reason to do it again. Molina is not innocent, but Phillips knew what he was doing.

Today,Reds announcers blamed the fight on Phillips's immaturity in the box. Exactly what I'm saying

Fights can sometimes unite a team and their play improves then again some teams have taken a nose dive and can not win a game. This seems to have inspired the Cards right now. No one thought the Reds would be this good this year. So it is up to them to overcome this and play ball.

Gahs,

I can see it both ways. Really. If the comments weren't made, this wouldve never happened. With the comments plus the second shinguard tap, its hard for me not to blame it on Phillips.

I'd call the Red Sox and see what they want for Victor Martinez (upgrade at catcher and hitting; free agent at end of year) and Jonathan Papelbon (expendable in Boston now). How bad do you want to overtake the Cardinals? At what cost?

The Red's catchers have been getting clutch hits and Papelbon has blew more saves than Coco.

This is a very good Florida team and the fact that the Reds have bounced back to take two straight is encouraging. Tied for first, we are still one back in the loss column, and as the season winds down, the loss column is the most critical.
I've been so busy I have missed the Marlins series! Give me the skinny please! I know they have taken 2 straight but has Coco pitched. Hows the Bullpen look?

Reds back in first. If they can win the games they should, it will go a long way. Schedule favors them. That is the cold analysis.
