Friday Dec. 11th Valley at Waverly
Will we see the Tigers come out hot Friday against Valley? Will there be any changes or adjustments to the lineup to try and generate some offense? Good luck Tigers.

wtigerfan10,
Who exactly would you be starting? You mentioned it in the Waverly/Logan Elm thread as well so you must not be happy with the starting line-up. To be quite frank about it there's only one spot open for "debate" and that won't change the offense much.
With the schedule Waverly has coming up a win against Valley Friday night is crucial. The Tigers travel to the convo to face Chesapeake on Saturday then have Burg coming to town next Friday (Peake beat Burg last week). The game Saturday will be a HUGE challenge as it is a 12:30p.m. tip off. Not much rest after a Friday night game for a team who plays 2 subs.

If waverly only plays 2 subs Valley will win by 20 because they play so fast and has so much pressure defense. But if they go deeper then 2 players i say that Valley wins by 8.

The new point guard better be "very" good for Waverly. Valley will bring the heat and make Waverly play a full court game and speed them up in the half court. If Waverly plays fast....they will get beat. If they play half court....Waverly has the horses and size to get a W.
I think Waverly is a more talented team. However, I say Valley wins by 15 points.

I dont see Valley blowing Waverly out I think Wavely wins this one by 5 or 6 but either way I think it will be a close game.

Valley is not as deep this year as last. Looks like if you can shut down Yates and Utley they will have trouble.

Re: Friday Dec. 11th Valley at Waverly
tigers2010, the Tigers did not look in sync for most of that first half, and in the second half they played with better intensity and the offense ran better with that. A scorer is not what they need, a better decision maker on the floor will help get those scorers in a position to do what they do best. I am not asking for the world to be changed, but this early in the season is when you find your best combination of players that play well together.

Don't think there will be a problem with pressure the Johnston kid is probably 1 of the top 3 point guards in southern ohio and broke down LE when they tried to trap.
Offense ya got to move and start your sets closer to 3 point line they were 25-28 feet out, when the ball went down to Martin everyone just stood around and watched, defensive weakside was getting smoked when they collapsed to help but LE really moved the ball.
Only JV game this week in front of the Varsity, I know the kids were wanting to play Friday but they stood in the tunnel from the beginning of the 2nd half all the way through 3 overtimes last week and you could see them losing their legs a little bit early in the game, can only stay hyped for so long, Stiverson took his team down to the old pit and walked through their offense during that time very smart.
Just one game against a very talented and well coached club, they need to work hard this week cause they have another good team coming into town Friday, I say Waverly fixes the problems, Waverly 54 Valley 47

Valley NEVER stops playing....they have been down double digits in both games, and were down 17 to WCH. So, if Waverly does get a lead, Valley will make a run.

Waverly wins in overtime Friday, then shocks everyone with a great game at the convo as they upset a very good Chesapeak team on Saturday to set up big game next Friday with the Burg.
Re: Friday Dec. 11th Valley at Waverly
This game could go either way.. I will take Waverly by 2 with a buzzer beater to win it..

Or, what if Valley wins...then chesapeake...then Burg....Not wishing that for the Tigers but all are possible losses. The Tigers better put it together quick this year or they will dig a good hole..
Re: Friday Dec. 11th Valley at Waverly
Should be an interesting game. If Waverly can control the tempo and play the game they want, they should take this one. However, if the Indians can get going quick, I look for Utley and Yates to take over. This game will go either way by 5 points or less*. Good Luck to both teams.

Eaglesnest,
Everybody in Waverly knows the Tigers could open at 1-5 and still be a pretty good ball club.
FIRST SIX GAMES:
Logan Elm
Valley
Chesapeake
Wheelersburg
Western (Holiday Classic semis)
Piketon most likely (Holiday Classic championship)

Re: Friday Dec. 11th Valley at Waverly
Having seen both teams this year, I would say that Waverly is a little better team this year than Valley. The two teams split games last year. Valley is not as strong or deep as last year, but still a good team. They do not have as many offensive weapons as last year. However, with the style of ball that they play, they are capable of taking any team out of their game. They seem to have a lot of fight in them this year.
Waverly appears stronger this year than last with the addition of a solid point guard. They should be able to handle the pressure better this year and Martin will not have to bring the ball up the court. I honestly see Waverly finishing in the top 3 in the league this year along with Burg and Oak Hill.
Should be a good game. Valley cannot afford to get far behind in this one like they have their first two games. If Valley allows Kretzer to get going early like they did last year, it could be a long evening for the Indians. I will say Waverly by 10 in this one.

Then I think Waverly folks need to raise their expectations. If you now have an excellent point guard as many say(exchange student)....D1 athlete in Roback....2 potential small/midlevel college players in Martin and Kretzer...and you guys are ok with losing with that level of talent??????? AMAZING!
As to the Holiday tournament...I'll be pulling for first round upsets
