How do you leave Utley open in that situation?
p98;
Go back trough this thread, no one really gave Valley a chance to be in the game..
Not the cleanest look in the world by any stretch.. huge shot by Utley, Portsmouth contested the shot decently, but Utley still delivered.

Great win for Valley. I commend those kids for not giving up and playing hard even when they were down 15. For some reason they have played very well in the fourth quarter when they were down, all year. Congrats to the Trojans on a great season.

Where's tobias? Is he walking home?
Re: Portsmouth vs. Valley on Friday, 2/26 @ 8:30PM Jackson Sect.
Just got back from the game and Utley wasn't left open. He just hit a great contested shot. This was my first time to watch Portsmouth and IMO they got a little too lax when they were up 12 to 14 points in the 4th quarter. Two big threes from Valley and the 12 was cut to 6 and you could see the look on the Trojans players faces. I noticed the players talked back to the refs and even to each other from time to time, while Valley stayed composed and chipped away at the lead. I also didn't understand why Johnson set so much, but when they did bring him in he had a 3 on 1 breakaway and didn't give it up, missed the lay-up and they took him right back out. It was a great game to watch. Congrats to Valley for not giving up, Portsmouth will be better next year, but needs to keep their composure and gel as a team.

I'll eat the crow because I believed Portsmouth would have won by 10-15 points.

Just got home from Jackson and all I can say is wow! The kids from Lucasville just flat out play their hearts out for 32 minutes and as a former player and now a fan, that is all I can ask for. I am so proud of the way our kids responed to the environment and the situation tonight. They never lost their composure and stepped up big time in the 4th quarter. I think that fact that Valley played so hard and never quit caused the Trojans to lose their composure and they started fighting amonst themselves.
I stayed off this topic all week because I didn't know enough about what Portsmouth would bring to say much. I always felt as though we would play well and if we played well we would have a chance to win the game in the latter stages. This is pretty much what happened. The stories in the paper will be about Blake Yates making plays down the stretch and Zach Utley hitting some huge shots early to keep the Indians close and some even bigger shots late to win the game. Granted, the biggest reason I get to go Athens to watch this team play in 10 days is the play of those two, but I want to mention something that won't be mentioned in the paper tomorrow. The intensity brought to the game by Tyler Keller, Johnny Webb, and Luke Keller got Valley back in the game late in the 3rd and early in the 4th. Luke hit some huge buckets, Johnny hit a big 3 at the end of the 1st half, and Tyler just aggrevates the daylights out of opposing guards at the head of the half court defense. I am so proud of that trio. They never backed down and never lost composure.
All in all, a great win and it is a great night to be a Valley Indian and SOC fan. Time to get ready for Mr. Justice and Mr. Seaman. Win and advance.....

Congrats to the Indians. They never let the trojan players and student section get them rattled. Not sure what the chanting the name of a players mom was about. I know college student sections do similar chants but 1st time Ive witnessed it at a high school game. A bit over the line at the high school level. IMO. Nevertheless the Indian players just kept fighting back. Great game to watch and good luck Indians.

If the other team chanted my mom's name everytime I touched the ball and I still put up 27 points and hit the game winner, I might have something to say too.

Point taken. But we were the better man by not punching chairs, claping in faces after a foul, and bumping someone everytime there was a timeout.

I dont have a dog in this fight was just a neutral fan and from what I could tell the Valley players "were the better man" several times during the game.
