Pirates 4 Snakes 3

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER IN THE BURGH!!!

Bucs get the 3 game sweep as they score 3 in the 8th, the last 2 on Walkers 2 run shot and we finally get a quality start from Duke even though he doesn't get the win. It would appear that he is fighting for a spot on next year's team.

The Cards come to town as the final homestand is wrapping up and the Bucs are holding at 98 losses.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Pirates 11 Cards 6

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

5 wins in a row for the Buccos is a new record for this season.

Bucs pound out 14 hits as all starting position players get at least 1 hit. Still 2 throwing errors mess up the scorecard but a win is a win. Charlie Morton gets only his 2nd win of the season vs 11 losses.

Bucs go for the series sweep vs the Cards on thursday.

Going to stay with the sinking ship until the bitter end while waiting on the zamboni to rescue me.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Pirates have now dropped 2 in a row after a season high 5 game winning streak. Tonights 10-7 loss to the Astros was the 100th of the year and gave the Bucs our first 100 loss season since 2001.

Need to bounce back with wins on saturday and sunday to close the home schedule and finish 40-41 at home.

Pirates 6 Astros 4

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Duke goes 6 innings as the Bucs give him an early lead. Alvarez gets a 3 run knock to spark the offense.

Bucs close out the home schedule on sunday. If they win, it will mean that they went 7-2 over the last 9 home games and won all 3 series. Not bad for a 100 loss team.

Here's hoping that the Bucs take the series tomorrow.

Good night to be from the Burgh as the Pens beat the Jackets 3-1.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Pirates 9 Astros 3

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Buccos end the home season the same way they started it, with a win. Bucs go 7-2 on the last homestand and win all 3 series with an overall home record of 40-41. Attendence for the season was just over 1.6 million, a slight increase of about 40,000 from last year.

Bucs take to the road for the last 7 games. 3 in St Louis and 4 in Florida. Bucs are a terrible 15-59 on the road.

Even though John Russell is under contract for next season, there is growing talk that he managed his last home game today for the Pirates according to local media. The poor road record during his tenure will probably be his undoing. Regardless...

The Bucs lose the last two series of the year to end the season with 105 losses..I know with that many loses it would be hard to find any positives, but there are some.I think the Bucs finally have a nice young corp of players. Now we need to fix the starting pitching problem. One thing I can say, this team wont lose nearly this many next year! Mister B, how many games did you miss this year? I didn't miss many....It's almost embarrassing to admit how many it was though...I'm loyal...What else can I say...I'll end this by saying...I like John Russell, but he needs to go...Him and the front office/ownership are the other two things that need fixed.

I think Russell had a chance to coach next year IF they had won at least 4 of the last 7 games on the road. Going 1-6 on the last road trip was the last straw. Tying the Mets for the worst road record in a 162 game schedule is worse than the 18 straight losing seasons.

I think Russell is fired in less than a week. The Pirates have to at least show their loyal fans that they are serious about turning this around. I too think we have a good group of players to build on.

We have 4 solid positions filled for next year...Tabatha in LF, McCutchen in CF, Walker at 2B and Alvarez at 3B. Catcher is up in the air. If we keep Snyder and Doumit then we have alot of money at 1 position. Sanchez is a couple of years away due to his injury. My guess is they keep Doumit since he is a switch hitter and Snyder isn't. However, if we can find a good catcher via free agency or trade, then Doumit can split time with Garrett at first. Doumit at first, Garrett in RF. Doumit behind the plate, Garrett at first. We need a right handed power hitter so that will have to be picked up in the off season.

Starting pitching hasn't panned out, especially Duke. He is up for arbitration so I look for the Pirates to not make a series offer to him. It seems hard to belive that he has been with the Bucs since 2002 but he has never worked out for them. If they do sign him, they will then trade him. However, I don't think we have a lot to build on in terms of starting pitching. Look for some trades.

When Russell is gone, who will the Bucs get? They need someone that is good with young players. The Rays have already said that they can't resign all of their top players so they will trade them for prospects and start over. Will their skipper Maddon, who is good with young players, want to start over in Tampa or will he look to go elsewhere? Bobby Valentine could be another one to consider since he is at ESPN. And, there is Joe Torre, who I think is going to the Mets, and of course, every Pirate fan's favorite, Jim Leyland. Will he bury the hatchet and come back to the Burgh?

I missed very few games this season either thru TV or the internet. Love to watch the Pirates, especially at PNC Park which is the best park in MLB, IMO. If I had the time, I would buy a season ticket package and see as many games in person that I could.

I really think a major shakeup in team leadership will happen this week and I think the Pirates may actually add a key free agent pickup this year. A veteren with clubhouse leadership could do this club wonders. I think the Bucs will do some meaningful additions via the hot stove league this winter. 57-105 was not what was expected this year.

I would take Jim Leyland back in a heartbeat.Ken Macha and or Phil Garner may be good too...Macha got out of his contract with the Brewers and Garner is out of baseball,or at least I thought he was....Both have ties to the Burgh as well...

They fired John just a little while ago.Now if they can get rid of Huntington and Nutting we will be batting a thousand.

Surprised that they didn't fire Huntington too as he made questionable trades and signings that didn't work out.

It will be interesting to see who they hire as the next Bucco skipper. My guess is it will be someone with prior experience as a big league manager which Russell did not have.
