Portsmouth Trojans (21-5) (10-2) 2010-2011
Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2010-2011
One disagreement with ya Dave my friend. I dont think there was a loss of enthusiam......With are without Bendolph I felt that this was going to be a special season. Glad to hear Andrew will get to play and with ten or so games under thier belts, Im hoping for great things in the "real season" the State Tournament!

@ LetsGoPSU.....I don't think Dave was necessarily saying he was or even woulda been less enthusiastic...I think in terms of overall(Community, fans, heck even other onlooking schools) the enthusiasm for some may have waivered. You have to know Dave is about as enthusiastic as they come...whether it's Joe blow shooting the rock or World B. Free. He's gonna be as enthusiastic as ever!

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2010-2011
So why the 10 game "suspension"? Why was he ruled ineligible in the 1st place, then reinstated with a 10 game suspension? If he moved into the Wheelersburg school district last year and then moved back into the Portsmouth school district this year there would be no reason for the "ineligible" ruling to begin with. If he didn't move to Burg last year he shouldn't have been eligible to play at Burg.
WHAT IS THE RULING TO MAKE HIM ELIGIBLE AND WHY SIT OUT 10 GAMES?

why are YOU so worried about it?..just curious, your location is waverly, so this shouldnt affect your team any.....
even though the kid did transfer out and back in, he is not the first kid that has done it, and he wont be the last.
IM glad the kid will get to play his senior year no matter where it would have been

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2010-2011
Well just to reiterate, for the people who keep saying, "he shouldn't have been eligible to play at Burg last year because he didn't move to Burg!," you either have no clue or are just trying to hate on the kid....He actually was at Wheelersburg! That was never the issue. The issue was the time frame that he was at Wheelersburg! Unless you're trying to hold him to some other standards, smurray, you're posts have nothing to do with anything. I believe (and this is just from watching this whole soap opera transpire from afar) that he was ruled ineligible initially because, according to OHSAA, "he wasn't at Wheelersburg long enough before transferring back to Portsmouth." Thus the denial of eligibility initially. But there is documentation of residency in Wheelersburg during this time frame. So my viewpoint on OHSAA's stance is just a guess, but I imagine proof of residency was probably just under the year's alloted time needed in OHSAA's eyes when he moved back to Portsmouth. And I'm sure he came back to Portsmouth not knowing coming back early would be an issue. So OHSAA must've felt ten games coincided with the time they felt he should be suspended in correlation with time in which they felt he should have stayed to finish out the school year in Wheelersburg.
Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2010-2011
Congrats to Andrew for regaining his eligibility. I am suprised by the decision but selfishly happy about the ruling. In regards to his moving to Burg we all know he never established PERMANENT residence and went there soley to play basketball...heck he was only there for 6 months...however I don't really care either way because it is done all the time...I am just glad he can play no matter where it's at

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2010-2011
As far as I know, Andrew had an address in the Burg, and at the time the OHSAA was willing to believe that was his residency. So even though I think it was wrong for him to be playing there, the rules didn’t prohibit it, as the state viewed it, as if his family just moved into a new district.
Now that his address is again, Portsmouth I don’t see how they could deny him. I really not even sure why he is out for 10 games. Since the OHSAA already let him play at Burg last season, they have said essentially that he was a resident in the Wheelersburg school district. Since he is now at true resident in the Portsmouth district, how could they refuse him, unless they are now saying the Burg address isn’t expectable, from last season, and they are punishing him for that? If this is the case I guess Burg has to relinquish their victories from last season for the use of an ineligible player.
It can’t be both ways, either he is retroactively ineligible at Burg for last season, and ineligible at PHS this year, or both are expectable.
Glad Andrew has a chance to play this season, although I agree he should have never left. There are more important things in life then basketball.
I truthfully believe not having him for the first 10 games will make the Trojans a even better team come tournament time. This will give Seth and Lenny more time to get some min, and will help add to the depth the Trojans already have. How many times have you seen a key player get into foul trouble in a tournament game and it cost the team? We won’t have that problem with these guys, if Andrew picks a few up, I have total faith in Seth or Lenny, to step in.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2010-2011
Pfloyd has ranked the Trojans #4 in his preseason poll........whether the Trojans will justify his ranking depends on how we play on the DEFENSIVE END OF THE COURT!!!
The ingredients for a special season are there, a lot of talent, and a very capable coaching staff........I would love to see it all come together in 2010-2011.
DEFENSE WILL MAKE US A GREAT TEAM.......AND IF WE DON'T DEFEND, WE WILL BE A TALENTED TEAM THAT WILL ONCE AGAIN UNDERACHIEVE!!
GO TROJANS!!

sportsfan43,
I didn't realize we could only post on threads that pertain to the school we are associated with.
jgordon0315,
No, I wasn't try to hold him to a higher standard than any other student athlete. It has been posted on here by people allot closer to the situation than myself who said he didn't move to Wheelersburg so I was going by what they said. If he indeed moved to Wheelersburg and than moved back to Portsmouth than he's good. I can understand the 10 game sit as well because of the time frame issue.
I applaud the OHSAA for trying to keep kids from transferring all over the place just for sports. They can't possibly police it all.

Maybe if his name was OJ Mayo this would not be an issue.Bottom line, lets get ready for a great season of Portsmouth Trojan basketball.

Tobias,
Waverly plays Portsmouth on Sunday, January 16 at the Wellston National Hoops Classic. You have the time correct, 4:30p.m.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2010-2011
final was 87, to 50 something..I think Whitkey will be ready to go against South Webster, and maybe Mason Jordan, add Bedolph ater the 10 games, and if this team plays hard and not take plays off, they can have a winning season.

didnt see trojan dave in the house tonight , must have been something big to keep him away.
fun atmosphere for the players. ptown brought a nice cheering section (kudos on the polos and khaki's ) . ND not used to that kind of speed . Could'nt really tell much about the trojans , they were never pushed to do anything they did'nt want to do.
Jv game was won by ptown at the buzzer. MD
