4th Annual Glenwood New Boston Super Scrimmage

Glenwood New Boston Soccer Program will be hosting their 4th annual soccer super scrimmage on Saturday August 14th. Last year we had ten teams that participated. We look to have the same turnout this year. If anyone would like more information on this event please email Coach Jon Estep at jon.estep@newboston.k12.oh.us or call the high school at

So far we have six teams in the scrimmage. Teams are New Boston, Wheelersburg, North Adams, Clay, Northwest, and . St. Joe. We are still looking for 4 more teams. If you are interested contact Coach Estep at jon.estep@newboston.k12.oh.us

New Boston, Wheelersburg, Peebles. North Adams, Valley, Clay, Northwest, and St. Joe

The game times are still being worked on but they will be posted within the next day or two.

9am Burg vs. Peebles
10:10 North Adams vs. Clay
11:20 St. Joe vs Northwest
12:30 Glenwood vs Clay

Each game will be 60 minutes long

Field #2 is going to be in the outfield of the baseball field. We have figured the measurements for the field, as it will not be the size of the stadium, but about the size of St. Joe's field. We will see howit works out.

New Boston should have set up some shade tents by the benches for the teams on the field. Teams are roasting in the heat with no shade even at break time. Grass needed cut as well, I heard a couple refs comment on that.
I think Valley would be a better choice for these games. They should also consider playing them later in the day under the lights. From what I heard the "B" field at New Boston was a joke.
If New Boston does the super scrimmage next year I hope they at least open the gates to the stadium. Were they afraid someone was going to sneak in to a free event?

new boston does a nice job of hosting. extreme heat caused the changes. teams wanted to play in the morning to try and beat the midday heat. field 2 was a mess but generally they just use the stadium field. still a good tourney and the stadium is still a great place to play. keep up the good work.

It is a great place to play and they could not predict the heat wave, but no excuses for not having the main stadium grass cut. It hadn't rained for a week and the grass was ankle deep at midfield. The locked gate, making everyone go to the south end of the stadium was just laziness. Not setting up some tarps or pop up tents for the teams on the field or for the bench players and halftime breaks to get some shade was just not thinking it thing thru. So if doing a nice job of hosting is simply unlocking the one gate to the stadium and selling concessions, then they nailed it.

They also didn't schedule enough time between games, the Northwest kids had to play two games back to back with barely a ten min. break in the hottest part of the day.

You said it right, it hadn't rained in a week so therefore if they would have cut the grass in the extreme heat, that would have been the last of the grass. New Boston Glenwood has hosted this for a few years with limited problems. The north side of the stadium gate has nothing to do with anything.........was your team too lazy to do as the others did and enter through the south side. From what I understand, the Super Scrimmage was supposed to be an all day thing, but the schools were concerned about the possiblity of extreme heat and decided to get in all in as quickly as possible. Any school can host a Super Scrimmage, so you can get it all together for your school next year.

Be thankful for something...........that the kids had the opportunity to play! Good Luck to all teams this season!

acm, don't get your panties in a bunch. I said it was a great place to play. It had nothing to do with "my team" or "wins and losses". I was only making suggestions for next year. Provide shade, since each team only plays an hour and there is such short time between games it would make sense for the host to set up a pop up shelter or tarps for teams to get out of the sun, and odds are, it will be hot in August.

The locked gates was just an annoyance to people who tried to exit that end of the stadium and then had to walk around. Did anyone die from it? No, but why not just open the gates. Just a thought.

The grass should have been cut, no excuses. I heard one of the refs even ask a guy why it wasn't cut.

If you can't take constructive criticism, then maybe your not cut out to be involved in such an event.

You were critical in every way! I had nothing to do with the event except to watch a lot of soccer. Glenwood was providing the participating schools an opportunity to play a couple more games before the season starts. Hat's off to those Tigers for trying!

tough summer for all and I think tigers did a good job. field was overall in pretty good shape. a little tall but to be expected. wait until the football/futbal fields are covered in 4 inch grass. like trying to kick a bowling ball through a pool.
