Eastern @ Athens on Saturday
I bet the Eagles are looking forward to the cooler environ of the Athens Gym. They've had a week of Howie in the "nest" at Max. temperature.

The Athens/Eastern scrimmage was a couple hours of interesting early season volleyball for both squads from each school. In the varsity match the Bulldogs prevailed in a 4-2 victory. Out of the four victories for the Bulldogs, the Eagles were in all but one of them. The Eagles won the first, got waxed in the second, took a trip to the "woodshed" (out of the gym for a talking to), came back to control the third set and then lost the three sets in reasonably close competition.

Athens appears to have good performers in each of the aspects of the game, there front line is anchored by two very tall (for southeastern volleyball) middles, the Bulldogs' passing and serving were both good especially for the early season.

There is nothing like head-to-head competition for the coaches to see what corrections that they may need to make.

Best of fortune to the Bulldogs in their season, they looked pretty tough to me.

Eagles back into the gym for a day and then off to another scrimmage at Gallia Academy on Tuesday with 2 or 3 teams.

Go EAGLES!!!

Gallia Academy hosted a scrimmage today in inviting fashion with both their sporting character and beautiful facility. My bet is that the v-ball girls from GAHS, South Gallia, Meigs, Northwestern (Scioto), Eastern Eagles from both Meigs and Pike Counties all exhausted tonight. The volleyballs were in the air most of the afternoon with lots of good competition. The format was to play for 30 min periods with the score rolling. There were several combinations of wins and losses with the only undefeated team being the Eagles from Beaver. These girls are quite experienced and accomplished volleyball players.

The Reedsville Eastern team is still using many rotations, in search of the right combination for the season. They had some shining moments along with some periods with performance issues. Keep workin'em Howie, we know you will field a competative team, come time for season play.

Go Green Eagles!! Again, nice volleyball from the Orange Eagles!!!

Surprized at the lack of chat for scrimmages. Thought we'd share more info, not so much about winning and losing, but who pllayed who, where, when and any mentionable highllights. Too bad!

The green Eastern Eagles are off to Fort Frye today for their final scrimmage of this preseason. ln last year's regular season match one of the FF middles went down with a serioous knee injury, hope she is back and completely healed. I also hope she was a senior because she was a player! Go Eagles!

Meigs, Southern, and Eastern are coming together for a Preview this year at Eastern. The foirmat is to show each team from both junior and high school in an inter-school set to 22 points. This event is scheduled to start with 7th grade around 5:00 PM on Saturday.

The Fort Frye scrimmage went well, lots of play and no injuries this time. The varsity got in 4 sets and the JV played 2. The Eagles did well. They are used to a hot gym and the FF gym was hot.

The young lady injured in the last meeting of these two teams was back and playing well. She was sporting a new piece of athletic gear wrapped around her knee. Not only was she, not a senior last year, but she is only a junior now. She plays a nice middle and can pound them inside the ten foot line.

Fort Frye was a very gracious host and had pizza with other goodies for all, after the game. A big thanks to you from all the Eagle fans. We hope you have a great season in the PVC.

Go Eagles!!!

Warren Local hosted Parkersburg High last week. PHS is a very tall, athletic and well coached team and the Warriors had their hands full from the start. PHS is one of the favorites to win WV State. WV teams can spend more off season time together and it showed.

Warren hosts Fort Frye tonight and should have more team chemistry going for them this time.

Warren looked much better last night. They seem to be ready for the season to start.
