Well FIDO commented we couldnt stay committed to a conference. We have never been in a conference where traveling multiple hours to play wasnt involved...What would be wrong with us in the SOC?

i would be surprised if anybody invited ironton to be in ANY league or conference in the foreseeable future.
the soc has been a flourishing and size competative conference for nearly 70 years and with the exception of waverly, i may be wrong but i can't remember any other school ever leaving it once they were in it. it's a nice conference, why would they want to change it?
i wish clay had a football team in the soc.

Very interesting league! I think it'd be pretty cool. Though playoffs would be difficult since playing an out of state team qualifies as playing a D-1 school, right? Or so I've heard, If thats not true please explain this to me so I understand.

I don’t think that’s right. I think it is if you play a D1 out of state school all of their opponents are counted as D1 points. If this is wrong someone please correct me.

and how would Ironton disrupt the league?
i dunno. how did they disrupt the seoal?
( i didn't say they would disrupt it. i said, why would the soc want to CHANGE their conference. )
It wouldnt be changing a conference. It would be an addition...I'm just saying people complain about us not being in a league..Well, Which league is best for us then? Obviously not the OVC or SEOAL. OVE is terrible, and SEOAL killed us financially. Why not try the SOC....Burg (huge game) West (huge game)..other schools as well. Mize well add in Portsmouth and make the League a very good league.

Heard from someone Irontons budget went so far down the kids almost had to pay to play..
take heart. i'm sure that new week 9 game will overflow their coffers.
i'm wondering if the person that got them into the seoal (the league that ate up all their finances) in the first place was tarred and feathered and ran out of town on a rail.
Once again people allow their hate for Ironton to cloud there judgement. This topic has nothing to do with the fact of liking me or not it is what it is and Ironton joining the SOC would do nothing but benefit the SOC. Honestly, how does it hurt, A southern Ohio conference gets a major player in southern Ohio to join up and they bring another MAJOR player with them in the Trojans! I am sorry but I missed how exactly that would be bad for the conference? Financially....with the attraction of soc teams playing Ironton and Portsmouth, a no brainer, everybody and the babysitter are coming to the game. Competitively? Are you serious? Ironton AND Portsmouth....they just added the whole darn show! If ya really believe that should Irontons AD pick up the line and say hey we are interested in joining the folks in charge would not LISTEN with both ears. Also the schools, fans and etc of other soc conference members would be circling the date they played Ironton and/or Portsmouth....that is what ya call a WIN/WIN fellars!

Why you ask maybe it goes with your comment that was deleted. Some schools may just not want to listen to your crap when they do not have to. If they want to play outside of being in the conference then great. But to bounce from a conference after only a few years does not bode well for trying to get into a conference. Lutz will not coach forever. The fans left and when he came back they still did not follow like they use to. When Lutz is gone and not coming back how will the football program go? That is something that can not be answered until then but does bring in doubt?

Name another time Ironton left a conference after a few year?
and let me ask you something, If you had a really good job offer and accepted it, then after two year you got a 40,000 dollar pay cut and couldnt afford your bills. Would you look for another job?

The distances between schools did not change before or after Ironton went into the SEOAL. So trying to make it seem like the job situation does not fit. Yes gas prices went up during that time. The long drives for teams that play during the school week and for fans who have to work the next day make it difficult. So maybe it was not the best decision to join the league. Then add all the trash talk about dominating the league. Then making of excuses when Ironton didn't. Ironton fans did not travel well to away games and in some home games many would leave early.
Well the last two year Ironton has been 12-1 at home..i'd say no one left early....
and also the economy in Ironton is down and we have lost thousands of people. As Coach Lutz said when he first started at Ironton there was 1200 kids in the school now its down to around 450. Which is why the crowd is no longer huge at away games. Stadium is always packed on the home side, never on the away side.
Ironton did not lose a thousand people since they went into the league. Quit making up an excuse that has nothing to do with it. Many schools have lost students over the years.
Many Ironton football fans are there when they win most of the games when they do not win as much they do not show. Can a new league count on having big gates??? No
Will Ironton continue to lose students? probably
The economy has effected everyone not just Ironton.
Ok So first off the reason why we couldnt stay in the league is bc of not enough money was being made to help support our athletics through gates, consession, and others. No visiting team while we was in the SEOAL filled up the away side one time.Sure we dont take many on the road anymore we dont have very many.THAT WAS THIS TIME WE WERE IN THE SEOAL....last time we were in the league was the 80s? am i correct. Since the 80s Ironton has lost thousands of people. So dont tell me we havent lost thousands since the last time we were in the league. Everyone has which is why no one comes to games when you have to go an hour and a half to two hours away. Which is why if we were in a league like the SOC, we wouldnt have to travel really anywhere. Gates would be huge. Imagine this: Week 1 Ironton vs Burg, Week 2 Ironton vs West, Week 3 Ironton vs Valley(who is usually somewhat good) Week 4 Ironton vs Minford (who is usually good) Week 5 Ironton vs Waverly (usually tough) Week 6 Ironton vs Portsmouth I mean all within distance HUGE GATES, Rivalries playing against each other for league titles. Which leaves a few open weeks to schedule Non conferences games. for instance Ironton would have Ashland, Logan(working on a deal), and Alder. that is 3 tough non conference games. Just throwing my opinion out there.. Go ahead and keep bashing my post. idc to me your just a farmer in the country. : )
Oh and to the Burg fans. Never did i bash your schedule on the other thread. That was someone else. So don't reply with WELL YOU ALL SAID BURG SCHEDULE WAS WEAK. Bc for Burg i think they play a fine schedule for them.
YOU ARE OUT OF THE LEAGUE NOW. SO THIS WAS THE LAST TIME. NOT THE TIME BEFORE. When you went into the SEOAL this last time Ironton did not lose a thousand people. So that has nothing to do with them joining and now leaving the league.
So we attempted to join again and it didnt work out and we were losing money out the a**. So we had to take another path. and you know what i meant or else you wouldnt have refered to it as the time before last so lets quit being a d*ck. This thread was based on what if. so if you dont like my post dont talk about it. move on to the next thread.
You were the one who said do not tell you that you have not lost a thousand people since we left the league. That came in response to my post stated that Ironton has not lost a thousand people since they entered the league. So I made a clear statement. You made it clear not to say that and changed it to the time before to make youself sound better. Instead of saying you meant before. Then that meant you were wrong in saying that was a reason to leave the last time. I have never said Ironton has not lost thousands of people over a number of years.
