I don't think Gonzalez will win the MVP unless the rockies make a big push and get into the playoffs.

If pennant races dont heat up until September, Im wondering out loud if individual awards are won the same way. Personally I believe Pujols has a built in advantage because he has been ackowledged as the best player in baseball for some time now, and his personal season has done nothing to take away from that.

You know as well as I do that often times Gold Gloves are awarded to people who either hit for average (what does that have to do with defense?) or have a track record. As great as Ozzie Smith was, I believed he won Gold Gloves his last few seasons on reputation alone and Larking got the shaft. But that's just me.
I just had almost the exact same conversation with someone today!

The way I see it is that Votto has to really turn it on this month to win the MVP. If someone wins the Triple Crown than hands down they should be MVP, It's been 43 years since anyone has won the TC so don't hold your breath.
Pujols just has to play average and he can win it. Votto is a great guy and he has a great personality, I think the Reds need to market him so the writers can feel like they know him.

Watch out for Omar Infante. Not for Mvp but for the batting title. If he gets enough at-bats and keeps hitting for average, none of those three will win the Triple Crown

Gonzalez has been on a tear. He may not win the Triple Crown, but if the Rockies make the playoffs, he will be a lock for the MVP. Even if they don't make the playoffs, it would be hard not to vote for him at this point in time.

I agree, the Reds are limping into the playoffs and they had the most favorable schedule for the second half of the season.

Votto is having a career year. Nothing to be ashamed of.
