This is exactlly why any possible realignment shoud be based on enrollment numbers. We shouldn't have schools flip-flopping around from sport to sport, a league and or division should include the same teams across the board. N-Y can schedule upper division teams in the "non conference" and still end up with pretty much the same schedule in football and would benefit more in other sports but they seem to have the little brother complex and think people will disrespect them or something if they aren't in the upper division. Alexander across the board is a better fit with the schools mentioned as possibilities for a third division in nearly every other sport. Meigs may be the school that gets the least benefit from realignment but from a football standpoint they allready play Warren, Athens, V/C, and Alex and I'm sure a game against one of the other schools wouldn't bother them either.55Buckeyes98 wrote:Would Alex be willing to switch with NY in other sports besides football & maybe even wrestling? Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
Everyone keeps assuming the larger schools would be voted in. Warren might be able to garner the votes to return to the TVC, but I don't know about other schools. Do you think Vinton County and Meigs, for example, would eagerly vote Gallia Academy or Jackson into the TVC knowing they would be placed in the same division??
After Athens joined and has dominated in most sports, I would think some schools would think twice about who they voted into the TVC if they ever wanted to win a league championship again. I mean honestly, if we had a division consisting of Jackson, Warren, Gallia Academy, Athens, Vinton County and Meigs, does VC or Meigs even have a snowballs chance of winning a league championship in anything from that point on??? So why would VC or Meigs vote in favor of something like this?
This is more complicated than just saying we will have three divisions based on school size.
Even if the SEOAL disbands, the only school with a shot of being voted into the TVC is Warren. And even that is not a guarantee.

The TVC needs to wait and see whats going to happen with school funding issue. There is a good chance that 10 or so of those schools wont even be in existence in 5 to 8 years. If they are in existence, I see high school sports changing to club sports. For example aau football teams, basketball. Many kids will only play one sport. NOt saying I agree, but we have managed to make a complete mess out of the entire state. To many regulations, unfunded mandates, and way too much complacency.

Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
The SEOAL schools, with the exception of Warren have no shot at getting into the TVC. I see the SEOAL, being left in a few years with Portsmouth, Gallia, Jackson, and Chillicothe. Chillicothe could be gone to, but I think they may stay put. Portsmouth and Jackson have both been voted down by the SOC before, and there is no reason to think it would be any different now. With these 4 remaining teams it is time to go hunting for another member. We all know, who the most logical choice is too, Ironton. I know nobody wants to do that again, because they have left so many times before. However this would be a closer SEOAL, with games that Ironton plays anyway, they would have little reason to ever leave it. Other then Ironton, there are not many good options, Waverly is a good fit, but I couldn’t see them leaving the SOC to join. Unless other schools are forced to consolidate, which makes them out grow their current league, there will be no good candidates to join these 4 other then Ironton, and who know really how that would go.

What sports are the Raiders traditionally strong in? Are their any sports where they will be an immediate contender for a league title?
Does River Valley field teams for all of the TVC sports? Do they have a golf team?

As far as I know they aren't very strong in any sport. Maybe moving to the TVC will help that.NYBuckeye96 wrote:What sports are the Raiders traditionally strong in? Are their any sports where they will be an immediate contender for a league title?

I don't think there would be a need to switch for other sports. NY should have all the weight classes filled in Wrestling plus a few for the next few years and Coach Yinger has put a lot of time in biulding a great wrestling program that can hang with anyone. I think it would only help in Basketball and baseball.55Buckeyes98 wrote:Would Alex be willing to switch with NY in other sports besides football & maybe even wrestling? They do need to wait because after the realignment this spring things are going to change for once... schools are going to benefit and drop divisions, especially poorer school districts... can't wait to see how it works out

It will be a couple few years before we see this kind of expansion and a lot can happen between now and then.
Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
No, if they are forced to consolidate it involves both schools. That is not going to happen, but if the state did force it to happen there will be changes at Nelsonville, and Trimble. Different school, different name, different teachers, and different coaches. Those with seniority will stay.NYF wrote:HeavyD...Its not NY consolidation with Trimble. Its Trimble. Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
As an outsider I just have 1 question, why would Nelsonville be considered in the Large school division with Wellston, River Valley and Alexander being bigger than them?

I don't think seniority has anything to do with it. I know when Nelsonville and York consolidated, the longtime Nelsonville Superintendent became Asst. Superintendent for NY even though he had more seniority than the York Superintendent, who became the NY Superintendent. What I don't know is if he agreed to that arrangement.
Dave Boston Sr became football coach for NY and he only had 1 year of football coaching duties for the Greyhounds before the consolidation. I don't know how long the York coach had been there.
If it was a different name, I think it would just be Nelsonville. NY is the only city school district in the state that doesn't go simply by the name of the city. When Athens, The Plains and Chauncey consolidated, it was still Athens High School. When Logan and the majority of Hocking County consolidated, it was still Logan.

Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
NY is the only one of the mentioned schools with a growing enrollment and I'm not sure RV, Alex or Wellston would want to play in the big school division. Politics will play a big roll in how things turn out.CavsFan08 wrote:As an outsider I just have 1 question, why would Nelsonville be considered in the Large school division with Wellston, River Valley and Alexander being bigger than them?

Well seeing how the poster who started this topic also brought up the expansion talk pretty much means we all can talk about it. It has a lot to do with River Valley. This is the 4th team the TVC has added in recent years so I think this is the proper topic to talk about expansion.91blue14 wrote:and what does all this have to do with river valley to vote in december??? you guys cant start a future tvc thread instead of hijacking this one.

Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
From the River Valley standpoint this should allow them to become more competitive. I also like the fact that they have ongoing history with many of the TVC schools that will allow rivalry type games to grow. This move makes total sense for the league and the school district and only good things can come from it in my opinion.
Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
I don't know how or why they did things in the 60's, but in recent times when a consolidation happens seniority takes precedence. It also usually means a name change. You may have a point with Nelsonville being a city though. However, that is still a change from the current name. Just ask those who throw a fit when you leave York off the name.NYBuckeye96 wrote:Heavy D wrote:No, if they are forced to consolidate it involves both schools. Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
If Trimble local schools have to desovle then it won't be consoiladion. The district will be able to vote on what school district they want to become a part of and if that district accepts then they will. If The folks of Trimble Township want there kids to go to NY they will become Buckeyes. Thats they way it works
