Why would Vinton be opposed to Warren joining the TVC ? If I remember right, Warren was one of the original members. Personally did not agree with the Warriors leaving the TVC to begin with.

I think Vinton County voted NO on Warren last time they tried to join. I believe Warren was only 1 vote shy from being voted in last time as well. Warren is close on votes if they just have to convince one no vote to vote yes.

They were a doormat in Football except for the couple years when Gregory was there. Every league game against Athens was used as a chance to biuld up stats. I know in your world the SEOAL would never do such a thing but it is the truth.gahs4ever wrote:How do you "treat someone better?"
For years SEOAL championships went through Athens; especially in basketball. Every hear of Charlie MacAfee? The gym is named after him. You dont name gyms for people who arent successful or have a lot of money...lol.
There are a variety of sports Athens would compete VERY WELL in the SEOAL right now; among them baseball, golf, wrestling, soccer, and the last coupld of years even football and basketball.
So what does it mean when you say the SEOAL didnt treat Athens very well?
In the 60s and maybe early 70s some of the SEOAL teams might have thought Athens ran the score up on them--so when Athens was down in football it might have been payback time.

I know that NY, Wellston, Meigs and Athens all came from the SEOAL.NYBuckeye96 wrote:For a look at the history of the expansion of the TVC, check out the TVC Wikipedia page:

Eastern and Southern from the old SVAC.
Wahama a WV independent... I think.
SG Ohio independent.
What leagues did others participate in before joining the TVC?
Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
Wahama was a member of the Little Kanawha Conference (LKC) prior to coming to the TVC.
I think that the overall membership of the TVC is still fluid and will change prior to RV starting conference play in 2014.

I think the TVC will be smaller in 2014, and not for school leaving to go other places. I think the governor will try to consolidate schools especially down here and we will lose some that way. Schools like Trimble, Federal Hocking, Belpre, and Waterford could be brought together will schools close to them

I agree. Don't be surprised to see Belpre/Warren, NY/Trimble, and Waterford/FF. Although, my question is if you consolidate these schools how is it possible to use existing buildings? If you can't use existing buildings, who pays for the new ones to be built. There is no way that Belpre and Warren could use the existing facilities. They are barely large enough for the kids now at Warren.

I know there are alot of questions that need to be answered, but what Ive read about the new governor and wanting to save money, he will try to have less schools to make sure the bigger schools have money for education.

Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
If consolidation happens, ALL of the schools that get the new students will probably change, NY will no longer be NY, Fort Frye will no long just be fort frye, Warren and Belpre will be a new school with new nicknames and new colors, etc. I just hope he does not go through with it, but he is hell bent on saving money. By this time next year, we will be talking about where students will be going from all of the schools that he wants to close.
Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
Just because 2 districts merge/consolidate doesn't mean that there will be a closing of any buildings or a combining of the 2 high schools. A merger would only bring the 2 districts under 1 BOE, 1 Super and 1 Treasurer; and a WHOLE bunch of asst supers.
I base this on nothing more that my own feeling but I do think that there is an outside chance that forced mergers of school districts in SE Ohio will happen. It would be very hard to merge some districts into 1 set of buildings simply from the transportation side. There are alot of students who already spend over an hour on the bus each way going to and from school. An hour should be the cut off point in school day bus rides. There are alot of Warren kids who already pass the 1 hour mark.
Also, with the hundreds of millions of dollars already spent on new school construction in Ohio this past decade, I can't see the justification of closing down recently built buildings.
I also don't see just a merger of 2 schools in the future. I think it could be a very real option to redraw district attendence lines so that a student in Warren, who is geographically closer to Marietta schools than Warren schools, could go to Marietta instead of attending the newly merged district of Belpre/Warren.
A lot could happen the next few years with the state budget problems. I really can't understand why they are letting districts like Warren, not picking on Warren but using them as an example, ask the voters to build new schools. With the talk everywhere of possible consolidations, and it is just talk, no concrete evidence otherwise, this would only make it harder to pass any type of levy. I wish Warren all the luck in the world on their building levy but I would be very surprised if it passes.

Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
Whenever NY and Trimble consolidate, they can just call the school Nelsonville. Every other city school district that ever consolidated still went by the name of the city. Athens was still Athens. Logan was still Logan. Wellston, Jackson, Belpre, Marietta, etc. etc. etc. Every other city school district goes by the name of the main city. If you picked up Trimble's colors (which were coincidently the old Nelsonville Greyhound colors) the football helmets could be white with a red N, just like Nebraska.
You could have the Buckeyes with colors of Ohio State -- scarlet and grey.
Would they change the nickname from "Buckeyes"? The whole reason NY was called Buckeyes is because neither Nelsonville or York could agree on a nickname, and the only thing they could do was use the state nickname. Buckeyes is pretty non-controversial I would think. Unless you want to go with the Nebraska helmet and just call us the Nelsonville Cornhuskers!

Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
From what I know of the current threats from different supers that transportation for high school students is not required. So with that in mind many of the existing schools could be used for the different elementary schools in these new districts. The high school could provide some limited transportation if any at all. Kids may have to come to a "bus stop" to be able to ride instead of stopping in from t of every house on the route.Mister B wrote:Just because 2 districts merge/consolidate doesn't mean that there will be a closing of any buildings or a combining of the 2 high schools. If they are set on combining school districts and not just creating more administration jobs then the boundary limits of one hour I doubt would really play into anything.
Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
I agree that there is no way you can get Warren and Belpre kids in their existing buildings. Little Hocking Elementary is overflowing and has been for years. A new high school would have to be built somewhere if these two districts have to combine.coal miner's son wrote:I agree. Don't be surprised to see Belpre/Warren, NY/Trimble, and Waterford/FF. Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
RV and SG is an example of a de-consolidation. This was done because of the cost that many of the problems being mentioned cost the district and the long trips for students from the southern end of the county.
A money draining concern for Gallia County Schools now is transportation. In particular, busing kids from the Southwestern Elemenmtary attendance area as they have choice as to whether they wish to attend RV or SG. Therefore, we got buses running all over the place in order to accommodate the "choice" of all of these students. We can start by creating an attendance area for all students and sticking with it, If they wish to go to another chool, then use open enrollmrnt. I know this may seem unfair to kids anf teir families who habve been caught in the middle since SG opened, but I think it is draining money to continue to do things the way we are doing them in this regard.

Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
To be honest drawing the line in the SW area would cost the district more in the long run because you might just lose more kids to Gallia Academy that what are going now. Example I live in the SW area and here are the driving distances to the area schools form my house: River Valley 17, South Gallia 14, Symmes Valley 19, Oak Hill 14, and Gallia Academy 8 miles. Do you want the money staying with Gallia County Local or going other places? I would rather see the money stay in the county than going other places. I believe you only have to keep about 3 students to make up the cost of running the buses to both high schools each year.
