River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
Gallia Academy is interested and would come if asked. So would Warren. Jackson tried and were voted down. But, as of now the TVC is done with expansion. That may change however if Chillicothe and Logan leave the SEOAL as rumored.

As for Warren, if the SEOAL where to cease to exist, they should go to the MVL. There are an odd number of schools and the travel is mileage is similar. Also, better competition overall.HSFBFAN wrote:Gallia Academy is interested and would come if asked. So would Warren. Jackson tried and were voted down. But, as of now the TVC is done with expansion. OVC?gahs4ever wrote:^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I would dearly love to know your sources on GAHS being interested in the TVC. I practically live at the school and I havent even heard a single word that you could call a bad rumor.
GAHS isnt going anywhere as long as the SEOAL is viable. If the SEOAL were to ever cease to be, the OVC would be a better fit geographically and size wise with GAHS; especially since the school is located SW of town now and with RV leaving the OVC with an odd # of teams.
But there are those starting rumors of an OVC-SOC merger, and if that were ever considered I would love to hear what Waverly would think of going all the way to Fairland, Chesapeake, and South Point for road games.
Your talking about schools with nearly half the attendance of GA (550) Fairland (400) Coal Grove (300) Chesapeake (350) Rock Hill (390) South Point (400)
I think you would have a tough time getting voted in that league and it would kill GA's chance at getting the playoffs in football nearly every year. Beating Div 4 & 5 schools with so so records don't amount to many points come playoff time.
I feel that GA would almost be forced to join the TVC upper division. When your basically the largest school in Southeastern Ohio w/ Jackson it would be hard to enter a smaller school league.
Talk about being the biggest fish in a small pond!

Waverly to those schools is around 60 miles about what we travel now to every league game Fairland is the closest 48 miles.gahs4ever wrote:^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I would dearly love to know your sources on GAHS being interested in the TVC. What about Warren to Portsmouth? 117miles I see Warren leaving soon!
It would be sad to see, but the SEOAL has been outdated for a few years with the emergence of the new super leagues and schools changing enrollments so much.
Basically Gallia A and Jackson are the biggest schools in Southeastern Ohio they may be forced to keep that league even if it is a 3 team deal.
Portsmouth being about the same size as the other SOC teams and their location they would be a lock!
When people speak of these schools and size why do they only post boys enrollment numbers? There are girls threads on the board as well?

Since when are Gallia Academy and Jackson the largest schools in southeastern Ohio?
Am I missing something, or did something happen to Logan, Athens, Marietta, Warren, and Chillicothe?

I can name 5 schools in SEO that are bigger than Jackson and Gallia!Rvbballdude wrote:Waverly to those schools is around 60 miles about what we travel now to every league game Fairland is the closest 48 miles.gahs4ever wrote:^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I would dearly love to know your sources on GAHS being interested in the TVC. Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
IF the SEOAL folds I would have to imagine there would be a big shift among most leagues. Just off the top of my head I would think Jackson would want to align itself as closely as it could to Wellston, Vinton County and Gallia Academy. The TVC-Ohio will have 7 with River Valley and adding Jackson & Gallia pushes it to 9 or restructure the divisions. I think it makes sense from a rivalry and travel point-of-view.
In MY ideal world, not what I think will happen or could happen I would like to see a conference containing: Jackson, Athens, Vinton County, Nelsonville-York, Wellston and Gallia Academy with the potential for Chillicothe as well. But that last bit is just a fantasy scenario for me as I think it makes sense.

Big School in numbers is what i mean,i don't care how good any team is the numbers are what most leagues go by! I had no idea there is a troubled past on this issue.Trojan_FB_Alum wrote:Rvbballdude wrote:

A lock? PHS has tried 3 times to get into the SOC and gets voted down every time. The SOC has made it clear that we are not welcome. Even though PHS has had a down stretch of late, we are still viewed as a big school. Even though SOC schools Burg and West have competed well historically with PHS in football with Burg leading the all time series, and West winning several lately. Most other schools have either little to no history with PHS, or have a no success such as the case with Minford. Again with the exception of Burg, most of the SOC has little historical success against Portsmouth any other sports.

Please do that! Would any of these be interested in joining the SEOAL or allowing them in their league?Orange and Brown wrote:I can name 5 schools in SEO that are bigger than Jackson and Gallia!Rvbballdude wrote:Waverly to those schools is around 60 miles about what we travel now to every league game Fairland is the closest 48 miles.gahs4ever wrote:^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I would dearly love to know your sources on GAHS being interested in the TVC. I should have worded it the largest schools "looking for a league"?
They are not the ones hanging out looking for a conference all are moving on ,except for Warren and many think they soon will be!
Logan is more Central Ohio?
I also think Portsmouth would be a perfect fit for the OVC with River Valley leaving, same size schools and it would give Chesapeake some competition in BBALL.

I guess it depends on your definition of SE Ohio but, Logan, Marietta, Chilli, and Athens are all bigger than Jackson and GA. Warren probably is also. You could go to the OHSAA web site and look it up. I'm not going to though. If I'm not mistaken Jackson is now a little bigger than GA.

sorry if i got trapped into getting into a war of classless words, Raiderball: "your reply and the insult you made about me was classless and not very moderator like?" Thanks for clearing up what kind of person you are.
I would have expected this from another Mod or 2 not you.
Thanks Buddy!

I doubt that happens,in past State board meetings it has been stated that around 400 kids is the perfect size school.
The only way it happens is if the boards of said school districts can't manage their own budget. As in Warren's Case adding Belpre to their school district would put over or near 1000 kids in the High School alone. This means long bus rides Building expansion and so on. And if you have 20 bad apples adding 350 kids will bring 10 or so more and a lot of times having them under 1 roof is a bad thing.
Bigger Schools are not better! Ask Kentucky and West Virginia!
Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
Won't matter if levies are not voted for. The way voters in Warren, Belpre, Marietta, Beverly treat the kids is amazing. They think they have plenty, when actually they are miles behind other kids even in southeastern ohio. Not just in new buildings but in the technology that it brings with it. I feel real sorry for the schools and kids. If the voters don't want to ante up then I hope the state comes in and says you and you will consolidate and new schools will be built and here is your share.Rvbballdude wrote:indianabuck wrote:I think the TVC will be smaller in 2014, and not for school leaving to go other places. I know several people from PHS and they don't complain much about the quality of education their kids are getting. Several going to Ivy League schools and doing well.

Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
I think we might see consolidation in some aspects of schools, but not entirely. For example Warren and Belpre could consolidate and have same board and administration and redistrict a little so kids within the district could go to either school. It might even help raise Belpre's enrollment and bring Warren's down or vice versa to keep all classrooms near the same size. These schools could still have separate sports teams, whatever is best for both schools. Not saying this is a need at either school, but it's possible. Other schools could do the same.
