Re: 2011 Cincinnati Reds
Get the brooms out; the Reds capped the sweep of the Dodgers this afternoon, tagging Billingsley early and often en route to a 7-2 win. It was certainly ugly at times, but Wood picked up another quality start, going 6 and giving up a walked-in run in the 1st. He dug himself in and out of trouble all day. Not pretty, but we'll take it.
After today, I couldn't care less if Renteria starts another game at shortstop. 2 ugly errors today for him and he has more than anyone on the team by far - as a backup. I think it's time to move Cozart up and give him a shot at spotting Janish. He's knocking the cover off the ball in Louisville right now and couldn't be any worse on defense than Renteria has been.
Rolen is starting to hit better and his BA has once again crept back up over .250 over the last few games after it dropped to .240.
In other news the Cardinals dropped their 5th straight today, getting crushed by the Nationals to the tune of 10-0. Milwaukee and Chicago are currently in a rain delay.

Re: 2011 Cincinnati Reds
I would like to see the Reds get in on the Jose Reyes festivities but only a sign and trade situation not a rent-a-player. But if he wants Carl Crawford money NO WAY, he would be the 2nd best position player (3rd best at the rate Bruce is coming along) and he has a slight injury presence in his past. He would sure be an upgrade at SS.

The Reds won't be able to touch Reyes and with Cozart in Louiville there's really no need for them to get someone else without him getting a shot.
As far as who's the odd man out in the pitching staff, I would think Leake or Wood assuming Bailey gets right back to being the Bailey we saw earlier. Dusty wanted Leake in the bullpen anyway and they could use someone else there besides Arredondo at this point. Arroyo won't be taken out because he's always been an inning-eater and he has been the backbone of the rotation for several years now and they're still paying him to be that guy. It's kinda like the Harang situation last year only Arroyo doesn't suck that bad yet and he shows signs of getting better. Volquez is safe for now because he's already been down and he has two quality starts since being back. Wood is the only lefty in the rotation so I'd assume he'll make the cut for the time being.
My guess, Leake is the odd man out... Either way, having too many pitchers is a good problem to have for this team.

2 games out of 1st and we open a home stand against the Blue Jays tonight while the 1st-place Brewers go on the road (where they're 14-22) to take on 1st-place Boston, which is playing as well as any team in baseball right now. Could be in 1st place by the end of this weekend.

Looking forward to this series. I have tix for Tuesday and Wednesday. Hope to sweep!!!!!
Great to see Bronson drop his ERA vs Jays over the last few starts. It was 27.00 for the last 3 games.

Reds' bats continue to be silent as they lose again to the Yankees, 4-2. Coming into the game, the Reds were batting .220 on the homestand, going 2-22 with RISP and a BB/SO ratio of 2-28. Reds' starters over the previous 14 had gone 8-4 with a 2.48 ERA.
Wood was optioned to L'ville today and LeCure will be available tonight. Chapman should be back in Cincinnati very soon as well after two good appearances.
We're seeing why the Reds won't compete in the postseason should they be fortunate enough to make it. The Yankees and Blue Jays haven't sent anyone special against them on the mound, yet they refuse to hit.

Re: 2011 Cincinnati Reds
I'm not buying too much into last night's win. It was great, but the heavy hitting was done against a lousy starting pitcher. Heisey needs to be an every-day starter before it can be seen how he's going to perform in the near future. Remember: coming into the game he was batting well below the Mendoza line as a starter. His HRs all came on pretty much the same pitch last night. Votto, Bruce, and Phillips continue to struggle and Joey in particular looks downright ugly at times. Those three are the biggest pieces of the offense. A possible breakout game for Heisey is great, but it won't matter if the heavy-hitters are cold.
Cueto is pitching as well as anyone in baseball and the staff as a whole has been as tough over the last two weeks as I've ever seen a Reds' starting pitching staff be.
