New South Gallia and River Valley athletic complexes
New South Gallia and River Valley athletic complexes
The Gallia County local school board awarded the contracts last night for the new football fields, tracks, locker rooms and weight rooms for SG and RV. Its a very exciting time for those who support these schools.
Re: New South Gallia and River Valley athletic complexes
This is great news. How soon will these be completed, or at least projected to be completed? Congrats to these two schools.

Glad to hear as well. I have heard many things about the field at SG and heard that they got a pretty generous donation from someone in the community. Guess we will find out soon enough.

This is great to hear. The word is that they will be completed in time for the 2011 season. If that is the case the first game for South Gallia in the new stadium will be game two with Southern.

It will never happen in time. I heard they made major cuts and one of them was sod on the field. Now they are going to seed it and it will never be ready. Also I still don't know why SG is building a new stadium? They could spend some money and renovate the current stadium but that would make too much sense. I hope the football coaches had some say in how these were design so they wont be messed up like the gym.

Re: New South Gallia and River Valley athletic complexes
The reason the SG field can not be simply renovated is due to the high power lines that cross the visitors sideline. If one of those current light poles that were installed prior to the Gavin Power lines being installed were to come down (they have been there since the 1960's) you would not be able to install a replacement pole. Those poles are grandfathered in. When SG opened they were going to install visitor seating on that side of the field and were told they could not because of those power lines. Apparently NO structure of any kind can be place near those high voltage lines. That would mean all Saturday afternoon home games. Additionally there is no room to install a new track. As for the sod being dropped, I saw the bids that were voted on tonight and did not see that mentioned anywhere.

Thats good to hear about the sod. Too bad field turf couldn't be installed.

Well hopefully after a few years there can be field turf put in, if that would not be able to happen I would just suggest to postpone the entire deal for a few years until it can happen. There is no reason to have a brand new school with a crapped out gym floor and a regular sod field too imho
Re: New South Gallia and River Valley athletic complexes
Regular sod field? Postpone the entire deal until field turf can be put in? I just did the quick math from the attached article below and they are investing almost $5 million in this project. Forgive me for not agreeing but I happen to think this is a great thing and we should be happy about it. That's just my opinion.

How many new football fields are built without FieldTurf being installed as the playing surface? Not many in this day and age. If you have the 5 million dollars to put inton this stadium, why not use 250,000 of the 5 mil to install FieldTurf? 250k compared to 5 mil is almost chump change. Or do what Brutus said and wait until you raised the extra 250k to install it. I would say to go ahead and play on natural grass and then when you get the money in a few years install the FieldTurf but it would never happen. If it starts out grass, it will stay grass.

Turf is the way to go, but the fact that they are getting new facilty's is an awesome awesome thing....If they do it right and take care of it, Then it will be fine... The kids would play in a parking lot if they had to. LOL

And have you seen it lately? It is the worst field in the NFL as far as playing surface goes right beside Philadelphia. Do you think the current SG field right now is nice? It has about 10 different types of grass and most of it burnt up or chewed up by the end of the year with a few holes here and there. The new field will be the same, it's not like SG has a groundskeeper. Just a complete bonehead move by the Gallia County Local Schools if you ask me.

Also, anyone know how big the stadium will be? Any blueprints or drawings out there as far as what the new stadium will look like?
Re: New South Gallia and River Valley athletic complexes
The projects foot print will be very similar to oak hill and ross southeastern. Not sure about seating capacity. The new facilities will be nice and we should be excited. They wont be perfect but very nice. When was the last time this much money was invested into athletic facilities at a gallia county high school? I can't remember one.

I have never see SE Ross' new field.RebelCat wrote:The projects foot print will be very similar to oak hill and ross southeastern. Not sure about seating capacity.
I have always liked Oak Hills though. I would hope the seating at SG would be a bit smaller than OH though. Maybe take away some bleachers and use the extra money on the fieldhouse or something.
