Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
I can't find any mention of Rock Hill on here, who have they played and what is their record?
Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
Rock Hill is 2-1 with overtime wins against Gallia Academy and Ironton St Joe. Lost to Chesapeake. They show flashes of being pretty good at times, and flashes of being pretty sloppy at times. Still much improved from last year and can get up and down the floor pretty descent.

Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
Thanks codeman, that's interesting to know considering after the game against Rock Hill on Saturday, Clay plays Ironton St. Joe tuesday Dec, 21st, at 1pm at the Ironton Classic.
Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
Is this one still on? And is it scheduled for today? I will likely go if it is.

Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
Clay will do better if it is a close game or if they are trailing. If they get a lead, they always try to kill the clock and let the other team come back. I will take Clay in a close game, 58 - 55.

Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
I just heard that Clay fought back from a 12 point deficit to take a 52-50 lead and Coach Trainer went into his infamous 5 man "Death Weave" with 3 minutes to go and it cost them another game. I call it the Death Weave because all it does is kill any momentum the team has and kills any chance of winning a ballgame. When is this man ever going to figure out that his stall tactics aren't going to work? I was told Clay was playing great in that stretch where they made the comeback and then he goes into the stall and they lose another one because of it. I don't give a darn what anyone else says about the man, he costs this team more games every year because of his bad coaching decisions and it's not fair to the boys out there busting their rearends trying to win.

Clay 7 19 15 11 Final 52
R. H. 17 15 17 4 Final 53
Clay started out slow getting down 13 to 2 with two minutes to go in the first quarter and the 2 points they had were foul shot. They finally hit a shot and an old fashioned 3 pointer to make it 17 to 7. Back to back 3's by Clay pulled them to 21 - 18, but some sloppy play let the RH run it back up to 10 point before Chandler King makes a steal and hit a 50 footer to cut it to 6 at halftime.
Clay had the ball at the end of the third quarter and tried to run off the last minute to get the last shot, but lost it and gave up a lay up at the buzzer to end the third down 49 - 41. With 5:22 left Clay cuts the lead to 50 - 48 with some nice defense and some good penetrating drives. The tie the game at 50 - 50 with 4 minutes and after a couple of missed shots by both teams they take the lead at 3:11 at 52 -50. RH shots an airball three and Clay has the ball and the lead for the first time in the entire game. So what do they do, they go into the 5 man death weave and try to kill 3 mintues off the clock. I guess since that has worked so well in the past, like the Minford game, why not try it again. Clay misses on a inbounds play that didn't work. Clay again has the ball and tries to stall out the remaining 2 minutes. They get a nice look at a lay up but a charge was called on a obvious flop, (it could have gone either way). RH goes up one point Clay brings the ball up across half court with about 10 seconds, and gets into trouble, the coach doesn't call a time out, the ball gets passed to the Center at the top of the key and he takes a shot with about 4 seconds, misses and game over.
The boys played great and really fought to get back in this game, but this team just can not stall the ball for 3 minutes, 2 minutes or even 1 minute. Especially when you have all 5 players out handling the ball. They never have been able to and never will, no matter how bad the coach wants it to happen. So for all of the defenders who say let the coaches coach, tell me what you thought he did different this game. Tell me what adjustments he made in the game (we stayed in man to man the entire night). Tell me what he did to stop RH from scoring over and over on the same play, the guard cuts thru the lane, our center drops over to help, RH guard dumps ball to big man for wide open lay in. They ran that at least 8 -10 times. They also ran the long pass outlet to their big man for a wide open lay up at least 6 or 7 times. If you man can't run with theirs you have to switch off or get somebody else back. If you give a team half of their points from shots within 4 feet of the basket, your not going to win many games.
This is the third game that Clay should have won this year had it been played right.
Ironton St Joe on Teusday, should be a win for Clay. Let's just hope they don't get the lead at the end of the game.

Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
I could see why the pace slowed down at the end of the game because Clay's ballhandlers were getting down the court and not waiting for help, simply driving and doing stupid stuff - like trying to drive at a 1 on 3 disadvantage.
Rock Hill's size was the difference. #32 had a monster game and he continues to be the difference for The Redmen. I couldn't figure out how Clay kept losing him. It seemed like they had the size to contain him.

Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
Clay did switch to a 2-3 zone briefly in the second half, but didn't stay in it long. I think it would've caused some problems for RH if they stuck with it. Clay did fight to get back in it and showed some grit, slowing it down and running the clock definitely did not help their cause though.

Re: Clay @ Rock Hill
32 for RH had to have at least 5 or 6 long outlet passes for lay ups and about 1/2 of the previous mentioned dump down passes underneath for wide open lay in. Clay didn't know what to do to stop it.
I agree that Clays guards were driving in 1 on 3 and doing stuped things, but if you have watched them in the past, that IS their offense. That is all the 5 man weave produces, since there are no screens or backdoor cuts. We have watched this for 4 years now. I would love to see Clay run a play like RH did tonight and score consistantly off of it, but there is nothing like that in their playbook.
At the end of the game, they were not driving it in at all until they had a wide open lay up, which never materializes, thus the forced shots.

Sportsfan, I for one and not miserable after every game. I don't like consistently losing, and I don't think any of the Clay fans do. That takes a lot of class to blame it on the boys, who change each year, with the same results, and I don't think it is going to be better next year with the same coach. I asked for input on what you think Clay did differently from their other losses. The offseason conditioning had nothing to to with their coming back on RH to take the lead and then going into a stall. That is 100% coaching.
ps They are shooting about 80% from the FT line and TO's are down considerably this year.
btw, glad you joined, always good to hear new opinions.
