Re: Drop Out of the TVC
I agree the fact there will only be 3 county schools in the future. Athens, Nelsonville and Alexander. Federal Hocking and Trimble will be gone at some point.

I don't see Trimble going anywhere - if anything - (Corning) Miller could consolidate with Glouster to keep a school in that area.
Federal Hocking ... where would they go? Athens? Alexander? Trimble?

Re: Drop Out of the TVC
Guess what ? No one knows the future. If any of the current schools in the TVC dissolve, then that will be the day to decide what to do with the two divisions. Not now. I am sure glad that I have enough class not to call others names on this site. But I guess that is because I am as old as dirt and not 36 years young ! Orange and Brown have you ever coached any varsity sports? Guess not. But you are have a right to your own opinion.
I still can't believe that some of you can not see all the advantages to being out of the large Hocking division and filling the schedules with teams the coaches want to play versus the ones they must play. ASK THE VARSITY COACHES of all the ATHENS COUNTY schools what they would like to do. If they want to stay in the TVC then so be it. But why not ask?????

Re: Drop Out of the TVC
They are going to tell you that they want to be in the TVC!
NY, Athens, and Alex are all in the 6 team (7teams in 2014) TVC-Ohio
Federal Hocking and Trimble are in the 9 team hocking
Scheduling would be a nightmare for football with only 4 league games each year, or better yet lets all play each other twice............I'm still trying to figure out what years good ole Athens County League was around.

I, me, personally, would LOVE to see Vinton County leave the TVC to go to the Scioto Valley Conference.

Re: Drop Out of the TVC
I can see the school district (administration, BOE) being absorbed by another school district, but the HS/Middle school remain, and at least one of the elementary schools remain, at least for now.93Bulldog wrote:I don't see Trimble going anywhere - if anything - (Corning) Miller could consolidate with Glouster to keep a school in that area.

If they totally dissolved the district and closed the buildings, well, you'd see kids in the SE section of the school district (east of Coolville) open enroll into Warren school district, and the kids from Coolville and south open enroll at Eastern. The remainder would be absorbed by Trimble, Athens, and Alex, as the school district boundaries today are contiguous with these districts as well.
With that out of the way, Fed Hock or any of the other Athens county schools leaving the TVC would be a huge mistake, from the standpoints of competition, scheduling, finances, and travel. The Athens county schools are right in the middle of the TVC territory, so they have no reason to gripe about travel. South Gallia (yea, they knew what they were getting into), VC, Miller, and Belpre have the travel extremes, so if anyone would want to bail, it should be these schools, which is understandable.

My bad. I haven't exactly been following Boys BB closely this year, as you are probably aware. I'll give them props this year, but I'd say that this victory is probably an anomaly....amazinghocks wrote:Steely :

Re: Drop Out of the TVC
Played in the '50's in a northern county. There were two city schools and four county schools that played FB. The co. schools did have their own league which only counted for three league games per year. We did play our arch rival twice each year and then scrounged around the peripheral counties for 4 more games for an 8 game season (which was not uncommon back then). There were 11 other county schools which did not play FB. Eventually those eleven consolidated into a total of 4 new schools. The league became an 8 school league in the late 50's. It is still active with 8 members none of which have to travel more than 20 miles for any league games.
No way could a 5 team league operate today. Scheduling much too difficult. Besides, Athens would never approve such a move. They are NOT stupid.

Re: Drop Out of the TVC
I could see a school on the outside boundary of the TVC considering another conference but not any of the Athens County schools, they are too centrally located to do so.
