Head coach Marvin Lewis took his vow to overhaul the Bengals offense to the next step Thursday night when he hosted former Vikings head coach Brad Childress at Paul Brown Stadium.
Sources said Childress met with Lewis over Xs and Os as well as dinner, a reunion of the two's USO trip to a war zone this past Fourth of July with Eagles coach Andy Reid and Broncos head coach John Fox. Childress, 54, was fired back on Nov. 22 after leading the Vikes to a 39-35 record in five seasons that included back-to-back NFC North titles in 2008 and 2009.
Lewis said Thursday he's not looking to completely change the Bengals' scheme, but Childress comes from a different background than offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski. While Reid called the plays in his West Coast scheme, Childress developed Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb in his first six seasons from 1999-2005. Childress also worked under Reid at Northern Arizona.
When Bratkowski was hired in 2001 by head coach Dick LeBeau, the man he replaced as coordinator, Ken Anderson, was re-assigned to coach quarterbacks. How Lewis would shake up the staff if he hires Childress or someone else is unclear.

Re: Childress in cinci
The way Childress was with the Vikings he lost a lot of respect and let others tell him what to do. That is not what the Bengals need with this team.
Re: Childress in cinci
This afternoon, both of our sources inside the Bengals organization confirmed that Brad Childress was offered a position on the staff by Marvin Lewis when the two met over dinner on Thursday night. The sources state that he was offered the title of Senior Offensive Advisor, similar to the role Al Saunders with the Ravens. This position helps devise the playbook and develop game plans, but allows the OC to call plays during a game.Childress is awaiting the Browns decision on him potentially becoming their OC. Once that decision is made, if he doesn't get the Browns job, expect him to sign with Cincinnati.
Re: Childress in cinci
Childress lost of a lot of clout within the lockerroom when Favre came in, but they still produced offensively. Even this year when Favre went down and Webb came in they showed well. Childress wasn't a great head coach, but he also wasn't terrible. This is a what have you done for me lately and a lot of people (as I can see here) judge Childress unfairly. I'm not a huge fan of him, personally. It's clear people who judge him like that don't know too much about football, sorry to be blunt about that. But some people are head coaches and some are coordinators. Childress was a very qualified offensive coordinator and that's what got him a position as head coach. Bringing him on as an offensive advisor is definitely not a bad thing. He has a proven track record on that side of the ball.

To help you with this point here are two more examples: Dick Lebeau and Dom Capers, both have failed as head coaches but I would have to believe that a lot of fans would want them running their teams defenses.

Comparing Chilly to LeBeau or Capers as head coaches is not quite the same. They didn't play the Farve game and some of his comments about his players as well as his handling of the team. Then wherever Chilly ends up the media will want to concentrate on that. Which is all the Bengals need now. Especially if Brat is still calling plays which has not gone well. Even when they won their division many people still questioned his play calling.
Chilly maybe good just not the best timing for the Bengals to take him.
