NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- In a surprising move, the Tennessee Titans have parted ways with Jeff Fisher, who just completed his 16th full season as the NFL's longest-tenured coach.
The team said in a release Thursday night that "Fisher will no longer be the head coach of the team." The Titans announced the move within an hour of a report by SI.com that they were negotiating Fisher's departure.
Fisher's out -- now what?
After a sloppy divorce with Jeff Fisher, Titans owner Bud Adams would be wise to go in a new direction for someone to lead a team in disarray, writes Paul Kuharsky. Blog
A source told ESPN's John Clayton that one of the final disagreements that led to Fisher's departure involved his son, Brandon. Jeff Fisher wanted to have his son on the staff as a quality control coach and thought that was going to be approved. Brandon Fisher helped out during the season while offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger was receiving cancer treatment.
For several years, Adams has stressed he didn't want family hired on the Titans coaching staff and he apparently stuck by those principles this week in conversations with Fisher.
Heimerdinger has recovered from his bout with cancer and would be willing to be a candidate to replace Fisher, a source said.
A team release said the search for a new coach would begin Friday

Is there anyway that the Bengals can tell Marvin thanks but no thanks but the market has changed.

This is great for Fisher. it finally gets him out from under horrible management in Adams. it gives him a fresh start. No chance he would be stupid enough to go to another grease fire management team in Cincinnati. The reason Brown kept Lewis is because he knew how hard it would be to find another coach. Marvin Lewis is in a sad situation. here is a guy who could have been Mike Tomlin, if he had just stayed away from the Bengals organization. I look for Fisher to be an analyst next year and end up in a good gig in a year or two.

Bud Adams has no clue what he is doing. This Christmas he was in a picture with Kris Johnson and Vince Young for a team Christmas card he sent out. That is after the way Young was this year. Then only a couple of weeks later announce he was releasing Young. For years Fisher has gotten the most out of the players with many of them leaving when Admas would not pay. Fisher may just enjoy some time off this year especially with a chance of a lock out. There will be many teams looking to hire him the next year. Maybe Miami or San Diego.

Coach Fisher is going to land on his feet, and whichever team he joins is going to benefit, IMMENSELY, from his presence. Him being in a new division will change the complexion of that division, you wait and see what the opposing coaches within the division say, after he's hired. He's one of the few guys that will "immediately change the landscape" wherever he goes, and whoever gets him ought to consider themselves lucky.
Now, whomever Bud Adams hires, they are an idiot for even applying!!!!!!

Be careful before knighting Sir Jeff....he only had six winning seasons in sixteen years.
