To me the most disturbing and maddening part of this is that a principle comes in from outside the area and decides to recommend non renewel on Coach Young's contract. Now that same principle has moved on to another job in another area. I would have hoped the school board would have considered what Coach Young had done both for the North Adams and the area but apparently they chose to follow the recommendations of an outsider who was not a resident of the county and who apparently had a problem with Coach Young. I for one will remember that as each current board member comes up for reelection.
I want to thank Coach Young for all he has done for the North Adams basketball program and for the area. I wish him nothing but the best going forward and sincerely hope he successfully overcomes his health issues. I also wish Coach Copas the best as he takes the reigns of the program. He will have large shoes to fill but I think he is capable of continuing the success of the program.
The end of an era at North Adams
Re: The end of an era at North Adams
"Things did go south the last few years due to an administration that wasn't from the area, so there wasn't a lot of support. I knew not being renewed was coming if not this year, in the next couple years. They got their ideas and felt like it was broken, and so they fixed it."
"I don't know why, but until recently I never thought about not being the coach at North Adams. It seemed I wasn't just the coach at North Adams, but I became North Adams, and they (school board) took away who I was,†Young said.
You go Dave. Tell it like it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN9CCQWC ... 94&index=1

Steve, that's one hell of an article. You remain one of, if not the best, sports writers in our area. If you guys don't follow steve's twitter account, you should.

Great article and very sad the way such a great coach was treated, but it's actually Tom Barrick of Wheelersburg, not Tom Berry.
