Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
After getting some feedback on last week's film session, it sounds as if, offensively, there were breakdowns in assignments, especially regarding picking up the blitzing LBs. It seems to me that we should be past that point, but I guess not. If we don't get that corrected, we're going to have the same offensive production we did last week (very little) and we'll be in for a long season. Just a couple of sustained drives would have made a big difference last week.
I thought the defense played well, but wore down in the 4th quarter. We get a couple kids back this week which should help. I'm hoping that'll help out with the fatigue factor. We had 5 kids out last week that were supposed to be starters.
Licking Heights sounds similar to Athens in that they have tons of speed and like to get on the edges. Hopefully the defense can turn in another good effort and the offensive line can get the kinks worked out.

Athens speed and Licking Heights speed a little bit different...
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Massey match up predicts
LH 24 GAHS 0
Evidently they don't think we can figure out the BLITZ, or deal with speed.

Are you talking about LH being faster than Athens or the backs being bigger than Athens backs or both?55Buckeyes98 wrote:Athens speed and Licking Heights speed a little bit different...

As far as I know, the games are now on Sunny 93.1, the Gallipolis radio station.

Jimmy, Josh and Richard are still on Big Country 99.5 where you can catch all the Blue Devil games Live. We also stream at http://www.wbyg.com. We go on the air at 7:00 for our pregame preview and the weeks match ups from around the area.

Good luck Devils .......this is improvement week see if we have some kinks worked out looks to be a another hard hitting game, over alll last week I was disappointed that we lost take away a holding call on the line and the games was ours. I thought we played athens very well we hung right with them till the end its time to buckle down and get tough. you have worked all summer to win now lets not let all that go in vain --
I believe we are much much better than we played so lets go prove it. again good luck I'll be in the stands cheering you guys on

According to Newark Advocate website, LH gave up 371 yards rushing to Watkins Memorial last week. They turned the ball over 2 times -- 2 fumbles, 1 INT.
LH passed for 166 yards and had 108 rushing.

Not to be critical, but where are all the GA fans? I know LH isn't a regular opponent, but I expected more chatter than this.
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
I'm just not sure what to think at this point. I'm often critical of fans overreacting early in the season. At this point, we don't have much of a frame of reference for how good teams are. How good is Athens really going to be? They looked better than last year to me, but who really knows. How good is Licking Heights? They got shellacked last week, but who really knows how good Watkins is? We'll learn more every week. I'm still cautiously optimistic for this year's team.WitnessProtection wrote:Not to be critical, but where are all the GA fans? The big thing is that we've got to improve. Last week's effort from the offense just isn't acceptable. The offensive line wasn't very good last week. When you go into a season with 4 returning lettermen starting on the O-line, one with all-league honors, I would've thought that would be a strength of the team and it has been the opposite. We haven't been getting manhandled, but we can't seem to get assignments worked out. It seems to be primarily one guy, so I'm hopeful we can get it fixed or find a replacement. If we don't, we'll win 4 or 5 games this year. If we do, we've still got a chance to have a good year.
The D looked good last week through 3 quarters. We swarmed to the ball well and Sharp was only able to get loose a few times. Unfortunately, our offensive woes left our D out there a LONG time and we wore down in the 4th qtr. Also, we're still lacking elite speed and I think we can expect the occasional play like the long pass Sharp caught last week to bite us simply because we're going to face athletes that no one on our team can run with.
We get some starters back this week. We had 5 out last week. We need to go up to Pataskala this week and have our O-line impose it's will on the Hornets D. They're perfectly capable of doing this, but they need to show vast improvement over last week. If they do, we win. If not, we'll struggle again.

I believe they're going to the Licking County League when it's reborn again next year. Gallipolis should win this one. Pappy's direction are good one's. Broad St. on a friday night is bad until long after rush hour both ways (east / west). It used to be all country but in the last 15 years it's exploded with strip malls, shopping centers, restaurants and traffic galore almost all the way from the east side of Columbus into Newark. Everyone have a safe trip.
Hey, Buddy You staying away from the NY posts this year, what you getting soft in your old age....
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
What time are most GAHS fans leaving for Friday's game at Pataskala?
Re: Gallia Academy @ Licking Heights
Jottings, I used to live in Pataskala. You can expect 1.75 to 2 hours drive time to Licking Heights. I'm leaving a bit early tomorrow to meet my family for dinner in Pataskala, but if I were going straight to the game, I'd leave myself 2 hours to get there.
