Uh-oh! Now the Madden Curse! Peyton Hillis won the on-line fan voting to be on the cover of Madden 12. Will it never end?

10,000 years from now there will apparently be three things left:
1) spent nuclear fuel stockpiles
2) plastic water bottles
3) some iteration of the Madden NFL game

Re: Browns news
There seems to be a thawing in the hard-line positions of both bargaining sides. They are meeting in secret on their own accord as opposed to being forced to meet before an arbitrator. Maybe sanity is taking hold where both sides realize they have much to lose by relying on a court to rule in September. So, IF we have an agreement in the next month, what free agent moves to the Browns need to make? What realistically is available? I'd say first off we need another receiver; someone fast enough to stretch the field and open up the middle for the west coast offense. Any ideas?
Re: Browns news
Receiver Plaxico Burress will be released from jail on Monday and ESPN.com has assessed his potential landing spots. In the AFC North, the only realistic possibility for Burress is the Cleveland Browns, who have a big need at receiver.
Burress
But should Cleveland take a chance on the now 33-year-old receiver who has been out of football since 2008?
The Browns are severely lacking quality and depth at receiver, and Burress knows the division well after spending five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's a big, physical receiver who can potentially help the Browns close the talent gap in the division with the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.
Cleveland starting receivers Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi are not enough to help second-year quarterback Colt McCoy get to the next level. Burress is no longer a top-flight receiver. But if he's healthy and can get close to the level of three or four years ago, he would be someone the defense has to account for.
Burress is expected to get interest from several teams around the league, which could drive up the price and take the Browns out of the running. But in the event the price and interest remains low on Burress, pursuing him could be a risk worth taking for the Browns

Been working ALOT. fixing my place down at the river. It will be a long cold winter with no nfl. I wish i was retired. Thats where i want to be.gahs4ever wrote:Nothing much surprises me anymore, but I WOULD be surprised in the Browns dont pass on Burress. Character issues aside, 33 is not 30 and three years removed from FB is not condusive to maintaining skills.
What is being forgotten is the Browns change to the west coast offense which utilizes the SHORT passing game as an extension of the running game. If you remember the ultimate west coast WR, Jerry Rice, his stats for the most part werent accumulated in deep bombs, but rather he perfected the YAC stat.
A bona fide #1 WR would be nice, but it isnt the Browns most pressing need IMO.
Havent seen you for awhile ace. If the idiot owners hold their line it may be even longer before I see you again. Oh well, there's always the NBA and the NHL.
I will also be surprised if there is a bidding war for Burris. There wasnt one for Vick who is twice the athlete Burris is/was.

True, but you need to have the legitimate threat of going long or the defense will take the underneath away.gahs4everWhat is being forgotten is the Browns change to the west coast offense which utilizes the SHORT passing game as an extension of the running game. A lot of talking heads have the lockout ending July 21. Let's talk some football! What are the most likely free agent moves the Browns can make when the strike ends?

Will Massi ever be a go to wr gahs4ever? I grabbed him on my fantasy roster when he first broke into the league but i'm not sure if he has what it takes anymore. I keep giving him a pass with the qb issues that he has faced but i'm growing tired of seeing his name on my bench....

Re: Browns news
I don't see the Browns spending big on a WR in free agency. They seem to like taking their chances with what they have. My question is at QB. McCoy is the undisputed clubhouse leader but can he go the whole season without injury. Odds say no. If the Eagles trade Kolb, who is their backup? I would trade Seneca Wallace to the Eagles and get more draft picks. Then, I would see if there is any way to pry Mark Brunnell loose from the Jets as a seasoned backup.

Re: Browns news
Even though it was the first preseason game, the Browns looked sharp tonight beating the Packers 27-17. Basically, our first team played their first team to a draw but McCoy looked real comfortable in the West Coast offense. Might not be such a terrible year after all.

Were still going to need some help at CB, And I also like what Norwood was able to do.

I'm scared to death everytime the national media likes something about the Browns and there have been glowing assessments of Colt McCoy all over the place. Please, move along....nothing to see here. Get back to me when he gets us to the playoffs.

However, things are stirring on the lakefront. After years of abject gloom, I feel some hope! Haven't had these feelings since the 80's. (among others

Re: Browns news
Well, the preseason is in the books. Browns finish with 1-3 record. That doesn't matter that much. I'm sure with a new coach and many young players, the Browns were more interested in putting them into situational opportunities to see how they would respond. A lot of youth ful mistakes have been made but I feel the core did well with their playing time. Losing Steinbach will hurt but it allows a rookie to squeeze in between two pro bowlers on the line and learn his trade very well. The Browns still need that first line receiver and a third running back. Also, more depth at linebacker would be helpful. Perhaps they can get some help after the roster cuts this weekend. I have more hope for the Browns going into this season than I have had for a long time but am under no illusion we are headed to the playoffs just yet. I see 8-8 and finally beating some teams in our own division. Go Browns!

Re: Browns news
Where's all my fellow Brown's fans? We have a lot to talk about for this season. Look at the schedule. We face no really tough opponent through the first seven weeks. The Colts in week 2 will probably be without Peyton Manning and in full disarray. I said it would be an 8-8 season but what will we make of it if the Browns are 7-0 heading into November? It could happen.
