Regionals Next year?

Post by wch125 »

Will Nelsonville York be hosting the Div.2 Regional next year? I know Miami Trace was putting in for the regional as was Washington C.H. . The regional is supposed to leave Byesville next year.

Hope this regional gets moved. It's simply not fair to make the southeast teams travel that far every year. It needs to rotate. By reading other track & field sites, it appears that Byesville had YET ANOTHER timing issue problem this year. THAT'S A SURPRISE!! Happens almost every year up there. What other schools have put in a bid to host? I would like to see Minerva, Dover, St Clairsville drive down to Oak Hill in the heat of the day to compete.

WCH should have it.....though Oak Hill as a site would be funny for the ridiculous travel as well.

Both have great facilities and run great meets.

There are a whole lot of rumors flying around out there. I am not privy to what is happening but I have heard the rumor that Nelsonville and Logan have thrown names into the hat to host a regional meet.

Many many moons ago we hosted a regional meet at our old track - it was quite a production being that I was in charge of it and lots was learned - too much, in fact, about different coaches and different officials. The big problem was seating and bathrooms - I remember having to have a dozen Porta - Johns around the site, as well as the one bathroom we had for men and women each AND having to hire men and women just to keep everything clean! We even had to open a back door to the middle school and have someone direct folks to the bathrooms in the new middle school. It was all of the peripheral and collateral "stuff" that made for administering a meet so difficult. However, ad ministering a regional meet in and of itself is MUCH easier than is a district meet.

When making a choice about a regional site I think the peripheral and collateral things need to be considered - bathrooms, easy access to the site itself, seating, etc. With Baumspage and the computer programs in Hy-tek setting up a meet is now much much easier. Get the entries, hit a button, and voila, seeding and flighting is done! The stacks of papers in "neatly" organized piles is gone! However, having had the opportunity to organize and administrate district meets and a regional meet was an eye-opening experience and offered me an opportunity to speed up my learning curve concerning running such a meet. EVERY coach in Ohio needs to have this experience just one time.

Washington County teams have been traveling to WCH for years for the District Meet. We should not have to travel that far for both district and regional. Myself I liked Byesville and hope they pick something on this side of the state. Dirving over 2.5 hours for D2 district is bad, heck we drive right past one district D2 meeti for another hour to get to ours.

We know this area have places to hold them closer. Nothing like being worn out from a long trip and then going out and do track.

Being from Washington C.H. I would love to host the District and Regional. We have a great facility and we run good meets. Hosting a regional will be easier than hosting our district. We have plenty of seating, and if need be we will bring in bleachers from our fairgrounds. We have hosted the USATF track and field regional.

On the other side I understand travel. I would not mind going to Nelsonville or Logan. I have heard good things about both sites. I am just glad not to be traveling to Byesville next year. It is only fair to rotate. I don't know when they will say who will have the regional for next year. I know that all 3 schools have put in, and im sure who ever gets the meet will do a good job.
