Re: Portsmouth Trojans Next Year
Just happened to look in the 2012 state tournament program.........I found a remarkable statistic.........Portsmouth has more state appearances (15) than the entire D1 field combined........Toledo Whitmer (4), Lakewood St.Edward (7), Pickerington Central (1), and Fairfield (1). D2 had Dayton Dunbar (8), Mentor Lake Catholic (1), St. Clairsville (1), and Elida (1).
D3 had 16 appearances combined.........Summit Country Day (3), Ottawa-Glandorf (6), and Bedford St.Peter Chanel (7). D4 had 16 total appearances, with Berlin Hiland (9), Africentric (3), Arlington (1), and Jackson Center (3).
Portsmouth has more appearances in the state championship game than any of the other 2012 participants........Dayton Dunbar has 7 appearances, with 5 state titles and 2 state runnerups........the Trojans have 4 state titles, and 4 state runnerups. Only Canton McKinley (11) and Middletown (9) have more appearances in the state championship game.
As far as all-time state tournament appearances, Portsmouth's 15 rank the Trojans 2nd alone, with only Canton McKinley's 28 state trips bettering PHS........and that's out of 826 high schools in Ohio. Portsmouth missed going to the state tournament in only 2 decades since the tournament started in 1923........those being the 1950's and 2000's.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans Next Year
Apparently Columbus Brookhaven is the consensus choice to be the top D2 team in Central Ohio this year, according to some info I came across........it will be a strong test for the Trojans at the Ironton Classic, but in the end will make us a better team........glad to see the tradition of playing "city" schools continues at PHS.
I believe the Brookhaven game will start at approximately 4:15 pm on the Saturday of the Ironton Classic.

Wayne Evans is the starting PG at Clermont JC........best wishes to Wayne on his opportunity........he was one of all-time favorite Trojans to watch because of his work ethic and determination on and off the court to make himself the best player he could be.

Good Luck this year Trojans! Losing so many seniors but sounds like youngens are stepping up.
