Eastern Beaver Football
What's everybody's thoughts about this? They're fielding over 30 kids on the jr high team, and they won their first scrimmage at Sciotoville East 42-14.

Good luck establishing a program Eastern. For those including myself who may have missed the announcement that Eastern was starting football, here is a link to a newspaper article. It would be nice if other schools could donate some equipment as mentioned in the article. http://www.pikecountydaily.com/news/art ... mment-area

Re: Eastern Beaver Football
From what I've heard, all SOC schools I/II donated something to Eastern. I think Burg donated their FG posts that were just taken down for the new stadium.
Re: Eastern Beaver Football
I don't think a school the size of Eastern could be able to fill rosters for both soccer and football. If this is successful and they do get a varsity football team in 2-3 years, the soccer team will likely disappear.

Eastern is scheduled to play the Oak Hill 7th grade @ Oak Hill at 5:30 on Tuesday, October 2nd.
Re: Eastern Beaver Football
Taking it slow would be the best way to go about it and take 4 years to start a High School Varsity schedule.
The current 8th graders could play a freshman schedule next year (yr. 2 of football), a JV schedule as soph. & Juniors (yrs. 3 & 4 of football) and then when they are Seniors launch the varsity schedule. Those Seniors would be so pumped going into that season.

I like that idea a lot.smurray wrote:Taking it slow would be the best way to go about it and take 4 years to start a High School Varsity schedule.

Good luck to the Eagles on getting it established!
Re: Eastern Beaver Football
Taking it slow is good advice. When South Gallia was opened as a high school in late 90's it pretty much played a soft JV schedule for a year or two. The main reason was that most of the upper class man reamined at River Valley so SG was very young. Fortunately though both Hannan Trace and Southwestern still fielded Junior High Football teams. The junior highs did not consolidate until after 2000 I think.danicalifornia wrote:I like that idea a lot.smurray wrote:Taking it slow would be the best way to go about it and take 4 years to start a High School Varsity schedule.

What's Eastern's target year for playing SOC schedule?
Re: Eastern Beaver Football
I do believe that taking it slow is exactly the plan out in Beaver. Use 3-4 years before playing a Varsity schedule.
As for starting in the SOC, I'm not too positive, but probably in 5 years at the most.

Also, the Eagles won their second scrimmage at Green. Not sure of the score, but I heard they won and looked pretty good.
Re: Eastern Beaver Football
great news for the Eastern Eagle fans. Our school is D5 this year in football but will be D6 next year. It is hard to get enough kids wanting to play football at our school with , golf ,soccer, cross country track, we just dont have enough kids to field a quality team each year ,, hope the Eagles can make a go of it and congrats to all the fans

I though new programs had to take until the 4th year for varsity opponents.

Glad to hear other school adding the sport. I also seen where West Union was adding Jr. High football.
Re: Eastern Beaver Football
HUGE win tonight for the Eagles! They traveled down to Portsmouth to play an actual game and left with an impressive 16-6 win!
