Eerrily quite on here today. Looks like the weather may be a factor after all on Friday. Calling for rain showers off and on. If it just rains the passing games won't be effected much but if it gets windy it will be difficult to hit the receivers. Look what happened to West Virginia last week in windy conditions. Wind would take away alot of Wheelersburg's offense and make both teams one dimentional. That would favor the power running team which is Valley. One thing is for sure, if it does rain the players will have those little black rubber balls stuck all over them.
Still going to take The Burg in this one. Rain or not.

Why did valley stop doing the vsn? Was it money or finding kids to do it?
Re: Week 9: Wheelersburg (7-1, 3-0) @ Valley (8-0, 3-0)
I would love it if Burg had to line up in power and run it. They have over 1700 yards rushing, that's over 170 per game to go along with their passing. They have capable backs and a good line. It might be good for them to have to do so as weather begins to factor in.Old Bulldog wrote:Eerrily quite on here today. Looks like the weather may be a factor after all on Friday. I never get why people bring up history. I was not aware that the kids on this years team has been in high school and playing for 40 years.

I really thought that promoted Valley sports by showing what they can do. No hiding it! I thought it was fantastic!Here4Fun wrote:I was told they are trying to get the VSN up for the game tomorrow. If it is a go I will post as soon as I know...

Play action won't work if the other team knows you can't throw the ball. Most of the Pirates rushing yards are from speading the field out and forcing the other team to have their safeties deep to help in coverage. Without the threat of the pass the safeties will creap up close to the line of scrimage and make it much more difficult to run.wobycat wrote:I would love it if Burg had to line up in power and run it. And, shouldn't that money collected be earmarked for paying the bills for operating cost of the stadium, pay coaches, refs, etc. And the rest go to athletics with the largest amount going to the football program?nutronron2012 wrote:It would be hard to tell without exact attendence numbers but if you have 5000 people at a game (possibly little over for Burg vs Valley and Minford vs Valley this year). You have early ticket sales where students get ticket @ $3 and adults @ $4. And Grandparents of players get a discount, but i would guess upwards between $20k - $25k, possibly more. And you would think that concessions would make a number close to this if not more. Just a guess though. I'm sure and AD would have a better guesstimatestarbase_318 wrote:I've been curious how much is brought in at the gate/concessions during these type SOC II games? Does anyone know?
I mean, lets be realistic... you don't pack those stands with any other sport performing on those fields or in baseball, softball or basketball! It's obvious that football cost more than most of the others combined but, 3 or 4 games with Burg, Minford, West and such you can generate $100k per year! So, basically football sort of sponsors all other athletics within a school!
That's why you have to build a top-notch football program if you want to have success in athletics! And, lets face it folks... great athletic programs plays as much a role in filling classrooms as does academics! No jab at Portsmouth but, great athletic facilities, new schools and they still have over a 1,000 students that choose to be educated at other schools! For whatever reasons--I think it has something to do with athletics to some degree!

Burg can throw the ball. Plus play action is best when the safeties creep up.Old Bulldog wrote:Play action won't work if the other team knows you can't throw the ball. Yes play action is designed to draw the safeties up but if you can't throw due to the high winds then then safeties will be playing the run knowing that you can't throw over them. Yes, Burg can throw, play action is good.
Go Burg.

This is true. Turnovers will come back to bite you. The personal foul penalties need to stop also. I would say that the coaching staff worked with some of the players one on one in practice to correct such behavior.
Go Burg.

burg doesnt have the personel to line up and play power football. they are running the perfect offense for personel they have.
Re: Week 9: Wheelersburg (7-1, 3-0) @ Valley (8-0, 3-0)
The weather forecast is showing 40% chance of rain and winds between 8-10 mph between 7-9:00, so I don't think the weather will be too much of a factor. I can see the Burg ball boys getting a workout tonight, because Coach Woodward will be wanting to get a dry ball out there nearly every play.Old Bulldog wrote:Yes play action is designed to draw the safeties up but if you can't throw due to the high winds then then safeties will be playing the run knowing that you can't throw over them.
