Fort Frye 8 7 28 6 -- 49
Eastern. 7 4 29 12 -- 52
That was quite a 3rd qtr with 56+% of the games points being scored. I had Burdette with 2 deuces and 4 treys is the qtr, and I don't think she missd a shot until a 40' one fell short at the buzzer. After Eastern fell behind 19-11 just after half time, they were trying to catch up most of the quarter, but neither team could score more than two baskets in a row. Coach Burdette called one time-out in the qtr, after they had scored 21 points in 5.5 minutes but still trailed by 4, and I thought he might have said something like: "let's not shoot the ball unless we are ready to play defense immediately!" I had seen Eastern play two game earlier(Waterford and Jackson) in which Budette scored about 25 points each game, but her outside shooting seemed like the ball wasn't coming out just right, but in this game it was coming out of her hand just right. Burdette made 6 treys, with the most important being the one in the 4th qtr on a double screen on an inbounds pass that gave Eastern a 50-45 lead with 3:47 left.
Fort Frye is more at a disadvantage late when they are behind as they don't have a player that can create her own offense as well as Burdette can. They could also use some work on end of game situations where they trail and need to get the ball out of the hands of a good ballhandler that is also a good foul shooter.
A very good game to watch.
