Re: 2015 Logan @ Athens
Are any of these statements false:
The Athens 2014 team was the best TVC or SEOAL team (probably any other local league could be added in here) that the area has produced in recent memory (define that as 20 or so years probably). Producing what I believe was (4) D1 prospects.
The Athens 2014 team would have been league champion in the SEOAL if they would have been in the league just like they were in the TVC.
The TVC did not "make" the Athens 2012-2014 squad the success they were but rather it was a confluence of mostly players and to the staff making those players produce to their maximum ability.
The SEOAL (if Athens would have stayed) would not have "made" the Athens 2012-2014 squad any more or less successful but rather it would have produced the same results because it was a confluence of players and the staff just like the statement above.
It is irrelevant what league Athens was in they produced the results not because of TVC/SEOAL/(pick any other) but because of the Jimmy's and the Joe's and the staff putting together some good X's and O's.
So if all of those are true (and I believe them to be); then the TVC vs SEOAL banter can stop because it is irrelevant and has nothing to do with anything and sure as heck wasn't a major contributor to playing in the D3 championship game it would have happened either way.
Which leads (or should lead) us back to 2015 lol and the fact that Week 1 between these two teams is going to carry more bragging rights I believe than ANY PREVIOUS MEETING between these two teams....EVER...lol.
Don't matter Logan is 31-7 or whatever the number is against Athens....Don't matter Athens was 2014 D3 Runner-Up...Does matter lol a bit (for nostalgia reasons) that it could very well be the last time Athens plays a SEOAL team prior to the league expiring. I stand by my position that this is the best WEEK 1 match-up in SE Ohio we have had in a long, long time.

Re: 2015 Logan @ Athens
Doubleplay- love the response and you sir are absolutely correct...
87Chiefy-
No where am I belittling Logan with this response. Simply using them for Comparrison.
Paladin made the comment that Athens Success has Centered Around the TVC Teams.
Success - in this response to him (Paladin) is looking at who they beat. That is the only factor to use in this case.
I went back to the start of Athens in the TVC to get the numbers. Used every game where Athens was successful to see where the Wins came from, who they beat, what Division they were in and what League Affiliate they were responsible for...
Again, not belittling Logan. Simply showing Paladin that yes Athens has been Successful inside the TVC, but they have been just as Successful outside the TVC as well so when he uses the phrase,
"Except Athens most recent record was built in the TVC against smaller and weaker teams. When they ran from the SEOAL, they were playing teams their size and much tougher.
Reality dead ahead. -Paladin"
His phrase is completely incorrect. Was simply showing where the Success came from. The success has been spread through many teams, many Leagues and many Divisions...
Looking At Comparrison: 2008-2014
Logan 2014 - Wins (5), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (5)
Logan 2013 - Wins (6), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (4)
Logan 2012 - Wins (2), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (1)
Logan 2011 - Wins (1), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (0)
Logan 2010 - Wins (3), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (1)
Logan 2009 - Wins (11), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (1)
Logan 2008 - Wins (11), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (2)
Athens 2014 - Wins (14), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (4)
Athens 2013 - Wins (12), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (4)
Athens 2012 - Wins (11), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (2)
Athens 2011 - Wins (10), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (3)
Athens 2010 - Wins (5), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (2)
Athens 2009 - Wins (9), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (7)
Athens 2008 - Wins (4), Wins against Teams 2 Divisions or Lower. (2)
Since he cheers for Logan, so I simply used Logan for Comparrison. Using his Logic, you could insert "Logan" into his Jab.
The truth is Athens can't control the Size of the Teams in their League any better than Logan can theirs. It is what it is.
"i'm soooooo tied of this oooohhh boooh whhoo!!! Logan is so much bigger then everyone!!!"
Noreply66 - Ryan Adams has built a foundation at Athens. The program will still be succesful as Athens continues to maintain a solid program under Adams and his extremely talented Staff...Athens has also had a (10-1) and (9-1) Season Under Adams without those (3 Years of Boys) you mentioned...

Athens left for less travel in the TVC. Zanesville left for less travel in the ECOL. Chillicothe to SCOL. Gallia, Ironton, Portsmouth to the OVC. Athens was just smarter than Logan, Jackson, and Warren
Logan 490 478
Jackson 300 306
Warren 280 279
Portsmouth 190 187
Athens 290 297
Vinton 290 290
Meigs 220 218
River valley 190 252
Alexander 180 183
Wellston 180 179
Nelsonville York 150 148
Kick Logan out of the SEOAL and add Athens, would save the SEOAL.

athens 297

just with those 3 schools not counting fed hock 628. that would just about put them in DI with the big boys. and in the same boat Logan was in for years. huge enrollment numbers but just 40-60 football players coming out. just bc Logan has a large enrolloment doesnt mean they should all the johnnies and joey superstars. i think i read on here up until the late 70's early 80's athens was bigger then Logan.
athens leaving bc of travel is not the whole story. athens had been in a slump in most sports for years. poor game attendence was killing revenue which was starting the hurt the bottem line. with the league expanding athens made the move to vote for the expantion then jump ship. athens did what they ( at the time ) felt they had to do to turn around they're sinking ship. for them its working.... at the moment. until the rest of the tvc get tried of them win 90% of all the league titles. imo athens was leaving anyway. expantion or no expantion. i posted once on what both leagues looked like at the time.......athens was in a league of its own size. even though they could not consistly compete in most sports. they opt'ed to join a closer, small league. they started winning and game attendence came back..... in the short term its paid off but will it in the long term. will the rest of the league continue to loss to them in most sports? what if those schools revenue drops off...... will athens continue to dominate them at theyre expense??

Re: 2015 Logan @ Athens
Athens County is just fine with having Athens, Trimble, Nelsonville-York, Federal Hocking and Alexander all separate...
Consolidation is not a Solution, it is a problem ... less jobs, less chances of playing
You would rather see 1 Big School rather than 5 Separate Schools where more kids get an opportunity to play?
Again, Logan is what it is...a Big Consolidation with a Chance to draw as many kids as it has...whether they get them out and about is another thing. To the OHSAA, they don't care about what you have to what you actually have. It's about the 1 number you can pull from... Is is completely fair? No...
That is why Athens is more like Alexander and Meigs and less like the Logan.
When Athens last played in the SEOAL in 2007, the League had 4 DII's, 3 DIII's and a DIV...
When Athens joined the TVC in 2008, the League had 2 DIII 's , 3 DIV 's and 2 DV 's ...
Since then, most school have started shrinking. Plus with the addition of the new Division 7, it has changed the way Divisions have turned out...
When Athens Joined the TVC-OHIO
Athens was Division 3 (Currently D3)
Vinton County was Division 3 (Currently D3)
Alexander was Division 4 (Currently D5)
Meigs was Division 4 (Currently D4)
Wellston was Division 4 (Currently D5)
Nelsonville-York was Division 5 (Currently D6)
Belpre was Division 5 (Currently D6)
Belpre (D6) has since left the Ohio and been replaced with River Valley (D5)...
The Perfect League doesn't exist...and if future numbers continue, Athens will be Division 4 (not sure about VC numbers) and the Majority of the the TVC-O will be 3 Divisions (D4-D6)...

Re: 2015 Logan @ Athens
this is true. Logan is slipping to the lower side of DII. DII is 428 to 642, Logan sets at 478, in 10 yrs or less we'll be DIII.The Perfect League doesn't exist...and if future numbers continue, Athens will be Division 4
im not dis-agreeing on the consolidation. i would love to see the rivalies, hs sports means everything to those small towns.

Re: 2015 Logan @ Athens
Logan has been blessed with some great football teams and players. I will just retreat back to the 70's with the Culbertson and Kemper years and then Gasser and Peppers and some others. Then to the 80s under Perry with the 85-87 teams with JBreining,Wolfe, and all the othe great kids they had. Go to the late 90s with the Conrad boys(Who were absolute studs),Bateman,Harden, and some of the nice linemen they had....Then in the last decade when it really came together with the Angle boys and all those nice running backs and wideouts like Lucas and Mays and the like. Especially when they transitioned to the Spread Offense. They were something else.
But get something straight. As good as these guys were, they were NEVER and I mean NEVER in the same ballpark as this Athens bunch from the last 2-3 years or so. Athens was something really special. And these Logan teams and kids were awful darn good.

No team in SEO has had a group of kids like Athens. Joe Burrow Mr Football, Trae Williams northwestern, and Luehrman Ohio for football. Ibi Watson is probably the best basketball player to come out of SEO and Lutz will be a D1 point guard. Most schools don't get that much talent in the history of the school. SEO is very glad Parker and Ibi didn't play together at Athens

Athens was a good smaller division team compared to the Big bad chiefs with Angle. Southeastern football was better in the Angle days when putting football with todays football.
This past Athens team vs Angles Logan team is like Logan Buckeyes vs Athens Ducks.......Quack Quack...ouch ouch ....Indians have duck for lunch

2014 Tri valley is 2009 Logan and both schools have the same arrogance. I would give the edge to TV. Great defense and lost to the state runner up, 2009 Logan lost to the regional finals losernoreply66 wrote:Athens was a good smaller division team compared to the Big bad chiefs with Angle.
