with all due respect to our friends in that profession, if the kids ain't learning, it's their fault no one else's.and the teachers are throwing a fit, because this would affect their 3 months off in the summer.and rightfully so. they go long enough if they are being taught.i spent 50 years in Lawrence county, and now 4 in pike county, and I can take you to houses that theirs kids graduated and they can barely spell their names. back when I was in school, you didn't get it. you flunked, just that cut n dry.
Theres the problem right there. Now days parents want to throw the blame on the teacher. Maybe the kid doesn't turn his homework in, or maybe the kid doesn't want to study and doesn't care if he gets a 25 on a 100 point test. That's not the teachers fault. That's on the student and the parents who should be driving them to succeed in class. When I was in school my parents asked me every day about homework and tests. I knew if I got a C on my report card I wasn't playing sports. Im sure a lot of parents on this site are the same way about their kids and their grades. Overall though parents and kids want to take the easy way out and blame all failures on teachers and the school when maybe the reason they fail is looking them in the face when they look in the mirror.

unless we have some bigger classes coming up. we'll almost assuredly drop to d6 in the next calculations.they only missed it by 2 males last time.i like where we're at. wherever they put us we'll be competitive. but the cold hard fact is we are shrinking fast.and with no new jobs coming into the area, it may get way worse before it's get's better.

you know what cannon sometimes you're like trying to talk to a flagpole. my parents done the same thing.
but my father was the only one working, there were jobs then. now most families both parents work and may have jobs trying to make ends meet, and just don't have that time to devote now. I was one of those students I done great in some classes, in other's my pops would have took me to the steak house over c's. it's totally different now. if you didn't apply yourself then you flunked.and of course parents and students can all do more. and I ain't doing it. but I can name you 10 different teachers right now, that while students are in class, school's in session and you'll see em posting somewhere on social media. there is much blame to pass out in all directions. but the teachers are paid to teach.not post on facebook or twitter while they are working.
and certainly don't use me for an example as such, I'm very intelligent. unfortunately I post just like I talk. I guess 36 years living in the county can do that to a feller.

Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
hey it's raining what can I say. I've drunk way too much luzianne sweet tea, and spent too much time on here today. but dadgummit it's good to be talking football and playoffs again. hard to believe it's week 10 again.for the vast majority of teams, Friday will be the seniors last high school game. for almost all of em, when they take the pads off Friday night, they'll never put them on again, and high school football is little more than a memory.
but for those select few that get to play farther, win titles and yes dare I say win individual HONORS. ''THAT'S SOMETHING THAT IS FOREVER''. I never got to experience that, and I regret that to this day. blew my knee out my sophomore year. and I was too interested in being the class clown. so I put the jersey down and went to the vocational school to learn a trade. back then the plants were booming within a year after graduating from high school in 79, I was welding at national mines for 11.79 an hour.

Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
I was looking at ironton's region and I am not overlooking raceland for a second. they have a fine team.
but I was looking at our region and started doing some calculatin.i realize the top 8 teams go. but I'm going to list the top 9, you'll see why. I'm going to list the top 9 teams, their next opponents. and their opponents overall record.
1-columbus bishop Hartley next game 5-3 bishop ready region-6.21-----------opponents records 60-28
2-wheelersburg next game 7-2 Portsmouth west region 5.17-----------opponents record 52-37
3-st. clairsville next game 4-5 union local region 5.17---------opponents records 41-50
4-coshocton next game 0-9 river valley region 4.13---------opponents record 37-51
5-ironton next game 8-1 raceland, ky. region 6.00-------opponents record 51-30
6- liberty union next game 2-7 Fairfield union region 4.13---------opponents records 48-44
7-martin's ferry next game 3-6 Bellaire region 6.21----------opponents records 35-48
8-columbus eastmoor academy next game 1-8 africentric region 7.25 opponents records 33-55
9-portsmouth west next game 8-1 wheelersburg region 5.17 opponents records 40-50.
the Columbus bishop Hartley/bishop ready game will be huge, but I look for Hartley to blast ready------
the ironton raceland game will be huge, the fighting tigers win, they should be at home week 11.----------------------wheelersburg/west will be not only an awesome game but if burg wins west almost assuredly out.------------------other than that not really big games in this region.be interesting to see how this plays out sunday.

Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
only 4 teams in this region being columbus bishop Hartley, wheelersburg, ironton and liberty union have played opponents with overall winning records.i see Portsmouth west getting in. and possibly ironton/ Hartley or Hartley/burgfor a regional matchup maybe. but first things first. we have a very very good raceland squad to play first. then see who we play in the playoffs when they announce it. I think ironton and Coshocton will flip places with ironton, should they win moving up into at least 4th place.-I know after Jackson beat us the moved from 6-2 in their region in d3. so should we beat raceland, I'd say get ready to stand in line for tickets. they should let 50 people in at a time staggered by say 30 seconds or so. I've seen some many elderly, and mobility challenged people just get flat run over.
anyhoo good luck to my ironton fighting tigers and the rest of our region playing for the playoffs.

Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
Well, I'll throw my two cents in the hat. Here's why ironton should join league.
1. The days of ironton competing for a state on a consistent basis is over.
A. Why? Three reasons: 1. 7 divisions with 8 teams. 2. The city private schools 3. Southeastern ohio is poor, we are barely surviving. Parents have to work, sports sometimes not a priority.
2. Ironton can instill some pride back in school by winning some titles.
3. Money travel expenses.
And before I get the reply that ironton should hold a higher value, let's not forget that even in irontons hay day they only came away with two state titles. Runner up just means best loser

Schools are getting smaller and money is not as available as before for these schools due to a shrinking tax base.
People won't like it but it may be no way around it.

I agree money drives everything today and when it happens people will be up in arms but only for a short while.cg-ironton fan wrote:^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this will be the future , its only a matter of time!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^maniac66 wrote:I think in the next ten years or so we will be seeing consolidation of several school not only in Lawrence county but Scioto county to.

Chesapeake and Fairland I can see combining with Symmes Valley getting some over flow.
Ironton Coal Grove the same thing.
Rock hill and South point seem to be safe from joining But I can see Green and wheelersburg merging one day.
The tax base just isn't there for these schools and many others now days.
Maybe I am wrong and hope I am but I see these things happening even with all the new schools that have been built.

Winning what titles? OVC titles? Thats not going go restore pride wow you beat the worst teams in Southern Ohio good job. Whats going to restore pride is getting regional titles and going to state. Long run moving to OVC will do damage to Ironton.wobycat wrote:Well, I'll throw my two cents in the hat. Here's why ironton should join league.

good post! I agree with everything you've said on this topic. I think joining a league is fine, but the ovc? All you ever hear on here is how teams need to play tougher competitive in order to be prepared for playoffs. So....how exactly did this help the tigers and Trojans moving forward? I would love to know why they didn't try to join the soc and if they did try, why didn't it happen....maybe in the future there could be a new league created. I wonder if that's even possibletigercannon71 wrote:Winning what titles? OVC titles? Thats not going go restore pride wow you beat the worst teams in Southern Ohio good job. Lol. What makes you think ironton is going to win every year in the ovc? The tiger lower levels are getting hammered by them. It's like the burg. The late 80s run through 90s were great but now the burg has to fight for confrence rights and hope to make it to regional.

Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
We're talking high school not lower levels. Even last year Ironton would have won the OVC. You're right though they wont win every year Portsmouth will win one every now and then or them and the Tigers will share.
Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
You're living in the past. I understand. Its hard to see through the glasses.
Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
Ironton football has always focused on fundamentals winning is nice but by time they get to High School level they know the basics of the program.
That is the biggest reason for the coaching change and problems that incurred.
But when the Children are taught at a young age and improve at the JR high level when they hit the High School level they know what to do to win.
Talent comes and goes but the teaching and learning is always there.
Ironton was never a true passing team and always stressed running so when they tried to learn passing it never worked.
Schools have to be in sync with their lower levels to make the upper levels better.
Talent does stand out and can step in but talent still needs taught and coached to work and perform at their best.
They OVC won't drag Ironton down IMO.
It will force them to step up and be better maybe not at first but in time it will.
Will Ironton end up Div. 6 soon no I don't think so but it is shrinking and playing schools closer to their size helps with injuries over the course of a season.
I wavered on the move but I think it was the right move for the long run.
Good coaching will help Ironton win and advance in the playoffs but they need to get there first to advance in the playoffs.
Simple fact you can play the toughest schedule to prepare your self for the playoffs but if you are a team like Ironton with little depth a injury can wreck your season even before it begun.
Ironton is at a point where Ashland is not a guaranteed victory and Russell if they continue may not be.
Wheelersburg as beat us convincingly and we played a great schedule for many years but it never helped there either.
Until Ironton can field 50-60 kids a year this is the best move for them.
possible Injuries as much money and depth of teams like Ironton dictate the future of many teams like Ironton in todays world.
At one time playing football for Ironton was all that mattered.
Now football competes with electronics lack of interest in school pride facts are facts Ironton needs the OVC as much as it needs Ironton.

Why speculate on something that has yet to occur? Moving to the OVC may end up being a great move for Ironton and Portsmouth. It could also end up being a bad move. Predictions are fun and makes for good debate but the future is never certain. Let it play out and see what happens. As for the Tigers and the Rams, both will be in the playoffs regardless of the outcome. A Tiger victory will benefit them more than a Raceland win over Ironton. Will be a good game but the Tigers prevail at home. I would like to see this series continue regardless of the outcome.

That's true I think they can still back out before any damage is done to the Tigers.TRH wrote:Why speculate on something that has yet to occur?
