Wheelersburg 41 Heath 00
(I am using rosters from hudl.com and maxpreps.com)

Tonight in Heath, the Pirates of Wheelersburg Sailed into Swank field and made the Bulldogs of Heath walk the plank to the tune of a 41-0 setback, in a game that was never in doubt.

Trent Salyers would hit Pirate teammate,Mack Dyer for a 24-yard gain, at the 10:47 mark of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs defense got a nice play from Freshman Dane Hogue and friends got to Trey Carter for a one-yard-loss, with 9:33 left on the first quarter clock.
The Pirates drive ended with a 37 yard field goal being badly missed by Jalen Miller, with 9:09 left.

The Pirated defense would get a nice play from Nic Parsley, when he got to Heath's quarterback Tyler Karr for a sack and a big loss.
The Pirates defense yielded little on the Heath drive and got the ball back for its offense at their own 39-yard-line.

The Pirates offense needed just 3-plays to go the 61-yards needed for the first score of the contest. The scoring play came on a 50-yard pass thrown by Salyers and caught by Tanner Holden. The point after from Miller gave the Pirates the lead at 7-0, with 4:40 left.

Karr would be sacked for a 4-yard loss by CJ Hall, with 3:53 left in the quarter. The sack put the ball back to the Pirates 18 yard-line and put the Bulldogs in a 3rd and 14 to go, to get the first now. The Pirates defense would hold the Bulldogs and kept them off of the board in doing so.

With 2:55 left in the quarter, the Pirates got a 63-yard touchdown reception by,Holden on a pretty pass thrown by Salyers. The point after made this a 14-0 game.

Austin Morrow would nearly throw a pick on a little trick play, with 1:24 left in the quarter, but the ball would be caught by #14 Kris Kirchoff , for a much needed Bulldog first down. The drive closed out just a few plays later and put a very dangerous Pirate offense back on the field.

Just fourteen seconds into the 2nd quarter the Pirates got a 50-yard pass from Salyers to Holden as this combo continue to be a pain in the Bulldogs side. With 11:10 left in the half, the same combo struck again, this time for a 34-yard score. Salyers would throw another pass right on target and Holden ran into the end zone with little to stop him. The point after made this a 21-0 game.

At the 9:53 mark of the quarter, Simon Romine would be knocked down by #21 Mason Johnson for an eight-yard-loss.
With 8:12 left in the half , the Bulldogs defense showed a little bark, when#13 Austin Morrow picked off a Salyers pass.

The Heath offense could not take advantage of the gift from its defense because Karr was picked off by Makya Matthews, with 7:51 left in the half. The Pirates defense had played a solid game up to this point as it constantly put crazy pressure on the Bulldogs offense.

Facing a 4th and three, with less than four minutes left in the half, the Pirates pulled off a nasty fake punt, when Xander Carmichael completed a first down pass to Justin Salyers.

The pirates went up 27-0, when Dominic Reyes plowed in from a yard out, in large part because of the work up front by the big hog-mollies. The point after was wide left, keeping this a 27-0 contest, with 51.4 seconds left in the one-side half.

Holden would pick off another Karr pass to end the half and he almost took it to the house, as he was stopped inside the five yard-line.
At the half the unofficial yardage was,340 for the Pirates to 53 for the Bulldogs.

Just 16 seconds into the third quarter Karr was picked off again, this time by 6-2-212 middle linebacker Evan Dahm. Dahm would look like a rumbling, tumbling fullback as he made a nice return of the pick.

#4 Cole Lowery would haul in a Salyers screen pass and run to a 32-yard gain. Some nice blocking and excellent field vision led to the big gain. Little happen after this one the drive as the Bulldogs defense was still putting forth a nice effort, even with this game way out of reach.

Facing a 3rd and two situation the Pirates used a 14-yard run to not only get the first but also the score by Salyers. The point after gave us a 34-0 score, with 2:57 left in the third quarter.

There was 7:55 left in this one, when the Licking County fan player of the game Trent Salyers hooked up with Cameron Howard for a gain of thirty yards. The last score came at the 6:42 mark of the final frame, when Josh Henderson hit pay dirt from 12-yards out. The point after gave us the 41-0 final.

I met two good guys at this one I am still in contact with today.
Covering the Burg is special because the coverage seems to go over very well.

2017. What a magical season for Burg. Best state title game I've ever watched.

I was there for all of them. This was a dandy indeed. I was on the Wheelersburg home side. They travel nicely
