Oak hill would be a great opener for the rockets and could build to a great gate.
Wise up and drop jackson.

Re: Wellston Football
2012 Wellston made $16,000 from the Jackson game at Wellston week 1.
2013 Wellston hosted Oak Hill week 4 and made $4000.
Wellston will NEVER drop Jackson. They can't afford to.

Re: Wellston Football
Once again Wellston may NEVER drop Jackson. They may sell out their football team by making them start the season 0-1. It does not change the fact that the leaders in the sports department are wrong in asking the Rockets to start every year 0-1.
As i said before. JACKSON would be SMART enough to rop Wellston if the Rockets won 10 years in a row. Just because Wellston lacks wisdom does not mean it would not be a good decision.

You are looking at it from a football/playoff/wins perspective. The fact of the matter is that one game pays for the athletic budget for a year. Not just football. If you drop that game you have find alternative methods of funding the department in an area where many don't have extra to give. It's a ripple effect down the entire roster of every sport that they can't afford.
If Wellston had other means to reap the rewards that the Jackson game provides, I'm sure they would seek those out. Your previous idea of making it a jamboree game looks OK on paper, but it isn't as easy to pull off. People from all around the area, not just Wellston & Jackson, come for the opening weekend game. They aren't coming for a jamboree game. That's just one problem. Could they test it out to see? Sure, but you are still giving up one year of guaranteed needed cash in order to try. That's a hell of a risk for a small school like Wellston.
Does it suck starting behind the eight-ball every single year? Absolutely. However, it's not realistic to suggest they drop the game when it provides so much benefit year-long for the entire department & not just the chance to start the football season 1-0.

Re: Wellston Football
Two things. First you are ignoring people, including Wellston people love a winner. The fans will be at all games of the Rockets win. Second The mental attitude of the players is important. Win that first game, how else can you go undefeated?
Your answer is to charge the WHOLE athletic budget to one game. The bottom line is this is not the job of the 30 football players. This is the job of the board , ad, and administration. Let the kids WIN. Let the adults be responsible for the budget. The adults are taking the ez way out.
Do you want me to believe that Wellston would quit athletics if Jackson dropped the Wellston game? Get real.
