Yea we all know why West looks so stupid. Stu
pid is as stupid does and you show it all over the internet...Sammons was a one yr wonder. Hell no coach wins without talent unless no one else has talent either.Forgot about Newsome. Dont know enough about him though. Is he still teaching at Ptown. Trip is a hell of a coach and is wise to leave.

The only way it will work is everyone on the staff has to go. Everyone. Then the new coach comes in a chooses his assistants. If he chooses to keep someone currently on the staff fine. But no one has a right to be there unless they are wanted by the head coach. Practices should be closed to all others unless cleared by the coach.

I disagree about Pendelton. He would be a great hire. Is he inexperienced? Yes. But everyone is inexperienced some time. The coach at Piketon is young. So is the coach of West Lafayette Ridgewood. Both have been successful.

West does not have the money to pay a coach a big salary, or especially assistants. That is a big problem. Jared's dad was an assistant and is very knowledgeable. His father-in-law was a head coach for years. So he has the support structure to fall back on. He's from here. Played here. Is respected and liked here. And most of all is opinionated and has the cajones to back it up. His work outside football allows him the flexibility to put in the time.

But whomever we get I want a coach that is committed to west. Wants to be at west. Wants to build a program, not just coach football at the high school level. That means pee wee up. Being at the games and being involved with what the feeder program is doing. That is the only way to sustain excellence and not have sine waves of success.

I'm not entirely sure that it is possible to build a sustainable program at West. I love my alma mater, but it would take a special person to be able to unite all of the people in charge of the pee-wee program, and run off all of the riff raff that currently hangs around.

This is why I think this person would need some sort of tie to West. You would have to love the school in order to put up with the many, many headaches.

Every school has headaches, and every school has talent. But, if you have a good adminstration that supports the program and supports the head coach, you can win. This is why West can continue to field a playoff team every few years.

West is cyclical, we get a new coach, he ultizles the talent and wins. Shortly thereafter, the community grows restless and the head coach leaves. As an alum, I hope that community support unite, rather than argue like hatfields/mccoys.

Oaf ill agree with you about the former Head Coaches at West. Most were good head coaches, but flawed. However, they fit at West.I do know that one of the reasons Tipton left was because of a falling out with the admin, but yes he did leave for greener grass (obviously it didn't work out).

I think your wrong on the pee wee program. Jason does an excellent job and he is committed to making the necessary changes to improve the feeder system. One of which being threw around is interleaguing. This should have been done years ago to change to a more instructional league.

looks like gallia may lose coach penrod if he would be intested in this job - hes without a doubt a great fit for any program, but esp a hard working type program such as west. we used to always scrimmage west - and he would bring that hard nosed mentallity back to them

Not bashing Mr. Hurd (I believe that is his last name), from what I know of him he has been good for West athletics. When I was around the pee-wee program, I can remember a lot dysfuction, a lot of kids not getting to play/coaches playing only to win. I'm glad to hear that has changed, and I'm sure many would love to see interleague playing. I think it would be interesting to all of the little communities around the district have teams. This may allow some kids that are in Nile township (friendship, stout, buena vista) a chance to get involved.

It would be nice to see some of the high school assistants utilize their abilities in Jr. High and Pee-wee. Not only would this help the kids, it would also give those coaches more of an opportunity to actually coach. With 10-12 coaches, there is not way that all of them can have a huge impact.

yes. Jason Hurd. He is as competitive as they come. But he and others involved understand that we are spinning our wheels in the mud with the current system, for alot of the reasons you mentioned. When you play in a league against others schools, you naturally want to win. When that happens the problems you mentioned happen. This is why you should interleague and play in some tournaments to get competition. It is the best scinario for player/program development.

No disrespect to the Pendleton boy but most head coaching jobs go to someone with experience as an assistant full time at least a few years. He has none.Hey give it to him.Give it to Newsome. Either way you get Clifford with that deal too. Or give it to an outside guy with no ties that doesnt know about the riff raff and the headaches.West has talent coming up so they should be in the running no matter if the biddy league coaches get it.Which would be my pick.

All this is purely speculative. We don't know who will apply.

But as for Pendelton, let's just agree to disagree. In a perfect world he would have more experience. But I think he is different. He would give the program the enthusiasm and passion that it needs.

First off good luck to Coach Triplett in everything you do!

This day an age it is hard to find a Head Coach in this area with experince. I would think that you would want a head coach that was a Teacher in the school system. This way he will see the boys daily and can keep them on a straight path. The next thing will be the new head coach may start fresh with an entire new staff or the school may want him to start with a new staff. But most of all West will find it hard to get a Coach outside the community.
