I agree with most of what your saying here, but just because your QB is an underclassman doesn't mean you can't mix it up to keep the D off balance. The Irwin kid showed he can handle his own, as can most kids these days and he is going to make bad decisions and mistakes are going to happen from here on trying to make a play, the key is to try and limit them as much as possible along the way (Mistakes and bad decisions usually happen from lack of preparation keep in mind). I'm really done giving my take on West football because the years have shown it isn't going to change much. I just want to see the kids have success and be put in the best possible position to do so. Age is but a number...if a kid can get experience and the right instruction they will be fine regardless of age in this era. I agree, enough of the negativity and whining (which I know I have done enough of) and let the cards fall where they may. Good Luck to the West Staff and teams.West Side Pride wrote:Let me take a second and break this down for you folks real quick.......Where to start?? a lot of posters had a lot of trouble even learning how to register on this site. (or even that they have an E-mail address). You have to play the hand your
holding, period! Last year West had a sophomore QB that did really well, but was just that...a sophomore. Taking risk at putting to ball in the air and losing
possession to takeaways isn't an option. So you must try to keep your offense on the field, and opponents offense on the sideline. you control clock and the
other team cant score...unless you pass or fumble. Which West did had a lot of turnover overs by putting the ball on the ground, 6 last year against P-town and three in the red zone. Now Irwin is bigger and stronger and will pass more, no different than Levi or Alfie when they started as sophomores. Nobody
complained about them boys or coaches when they become upperclassmen and was more capable. So back your team and Coach Trip! Stop with the whinning
cause your colors are starting to show, not to mention your knowledge!

What does this have to do with the number of kids playing Jr High football. If your going to insult someones intelligence make sure you are on the right thread. If you were refering to my comments on the High schools thread I stand by them. I never have said a bad word against Irwin, I think he is a very good QB. Evidently someone has trouble comprehending(understanding written english) what I posted. I said the show give him more chances to suceed by throwing when it is not 3rd and forever when everyone in the county knows you are throwing. And don't ever question my loyalty, I live and breath West Side football. Football is an evolving sport and if with as a community/school/team don't embrace that change we will be playing catch up. And I would put my football knowledge up against yours anyday!!West Side Pride wrote:Let me take a second and break this down for you folks real quick.......Where to start?? N-Y is fine with numbers for the camp, conditioning and first week of practice the numbers have been 17 each grade 34 total. We have fielded both grades as long as I can remember.

What no one realizes is that across the board numbers have dropped. Kids have alot more things to choose from now days whether school activities, outside activities and then some just want to sit and play video games. And yes in any sports you lose alot of kids cause lack of playing time. I have seen alot of good players quit playing as they move up, or quit growing and then the kid who wasn't the star shows up and everybody asks where has he been? Or they quit paying and show up at school one September 3" taller or more and bout 30lbs heavier. You have play and develop everyone up thru 7th grade, you still play to win, but you need to maintain numbers. Intranet-school leagues help and you can still have a better team that plays other schools. Like I have always said alot of kids who are good early ont always stay good late, and you don't get colleges letters in elementary. I have always coached to win, but get my bench players minutes with expectations to do something, then they also develop the confidence in themselves that pays off in high school.
But in the end Life happens, interests change. Plus in Jr High and up it starts to get serious, lol..

As coaches at the lower levels you have to play and develop everyone up thru 7th grade, but you still play to win. Winning, which every kid enjoys, but you need to maintain numbers and doing both is rough. Inter-school leagues help and you can still have a better team that plays other schools. When I was in the 7th grade Logan was a lot smaller than they are now and there was something like 60 to 80 boys being interested in football.
