... just found out that the Wellston game IS NOT vs Wellston BUT a game in the Wellston INVITATIONAL vs an as yet undisclosed opponent ... I KNOW that having Athens scheduled last season in the opening week of the season turned into an issue - Logan helped Athens by allowing the dogs to move the game from week #1 to a later date due to the Athens' football run in the playoffs - having to move the early AHS game turned the week that it was moved to into a week of 4 games in 5 days issue for Logan ... this season's scheduling I'm sure took into account AHS again looking to be in the Football post season, the AD wanting to have a "SET" 22 game schedule before he (the AD) officially retired ... Coach Helber's boys played Athens darn good last year! getting a "W" at home - playing a DII power always helps your team/your program ... would have still liked to see at least one meeting between Logan/Athens but with Athens picking up some "big boy" teams on their schedule I'm sure those "Big Boy" teams dictated to AHS when/where they would play so the chances of both Logan/Athens having an open date was decreased significantly ...

My answer was dictated more toward SOUTHEASTERN OHIO as a whole, Spartan ... far more 'football schools' in the area than basketball oriented institutions.

FLOYD ... I hope you right about the 'post season on the gridiron for the Bulldogs' ... I will gladly give up games vs Logan in basketball if it means the green-and-gold are playing in week 13!

SUMMER LEAGUE UPDATE:

Athens beat a team from Hillard on Tuesday in the Columbus summer league ... then beat Liberty Union in the 2nd game.

I don't have a dog in the fight but Its interesting to watch the evolution of Athens the last few years since joining the TVC. The were the stepchild of the SEOAL and now that they joined a league where they are by far the largest school they have (and should) be winning, they have become quite arrogant. They have developed the attitude that they are the backbone of the TVC when others have i been in the conference since its founding. Could be it's how they have treated the SEOAL teams since they left and experiencing a few good years? In short, from what I have seen (and many have expressed) they are not not very gracious winners. What will happen to Athens if the Assistant OU coaches find other jobs and their kids go with them?

You must be young because Athens was not the 'stepchild of the SEOAL' ... they had a few down years - but in the 1980's, 1990's and early 2000's Athens competed with the best the SEOAL had to offer and won numerous titles.

as for largest school by far?

Athens - 297 boys
Vinton County - 290 boys

I guess 7 boys is a lot wherever you're from?

just sayin.

So Logan should dominate the SEOAL? Unioto the SVC and Northwest the SOC?

As for Athens coaches, with Frank there the coaches are going no where.

rumor has it the SEOAL AD's were frustrated with lack of communication from the Athens AD so this is what they decided to do. Again that is a rumor I've heard a couple time and may mean nothing. It will be good for Athens to play bigger and more talented teams even if they lose.

Athens wasn't doing so well in some sports while in the SEOAL. I think a lot of their boys were staying away because of being down in some sports. Athens needed to start winning to get kids interested and by going to a league that had smaller school has done this. It has worked for them cause now they are playing on the level as when they were in the SEOAL. With their programs back on top it is time to leave the TVC.

Vinton County may have a lot of students but they fall in that area where they are the only county school. It can be very difficult to get involved in sports when you live so far from school. If schools were aloud to transport their students after practice you just might see VC as a power.

I don't see Athens wanting to go any place while beating up on the TVC and winning Championships. The only concern I have is if the TVC gets tired of it and tries to vote them out, if that's even possible.

When it comes to basketball Vinton County has won more titles than Athens and has finished 1st or 2nd every single year since the Bulldogs joined.

Athens has finished 4th twice and has less titles than the Vikings.

And Nelsonville-York also owns more titles than Athens in football and is 3-2 against them head-to-head.

Its been 5 years. I think its a little premature for Athens to be looking elsewhere (SEOAL). After another 5 years, if Athens sustains its recent success in the TVC, then its worth a look. I just don't see them making a move just yet. There may be a couple schools that don't like Athens in the TVC, but the majority aren't complaining. I also can't imagine Athens dominating the TVC in football as much as NY has overall. They've won more than half of the titles over the last 30 years. That will be tough to match.

Lets face it the SEOAL isn't what it used to be. Teams have dropped out and most of the teams left have fallen on hard times. I don't see much difference in the TVC and the SEOAL from top to bottom now days.

TVC on par with the SEOAL. I think not. Last season in head to head competition it was 10-7 TVC. Now b4 you get excited let's break down the numbers as they say.
5 of the 10 wins by the TVC was from hapless Jackson. Co Champs Athens and Vinton County were a combined for 7 of the 10 wins and were 0-3 against Warren. No TVC teams played SEOAL #2 Portsmouth Trojans.
Try as some may to say the SEOAL is down all I can say is that the last 3 years the champion of the SEOAL has made all the way to the Big Show. How long has it been since a TVC Ohio team even made a regional final?

Out of the 4 teams in the D2 district championship games - 2 were from the TVC.

How many SEOAL teams even made it to the district tournament (all divisions) ... you can say 2 with Chillicothe - but the Cavs are no longer a member of the SEOAL.

The TVC had SIX teams make it to the Convo.

Who besides Warren had much success last year? Warren squeaked by Athens in a game that could have went either way for Warren's first trip to the State. The SEOAL has lost some of their year in and out successful teams. I have read on here that Portsmouth was looking to get out as well. The SEOAL is down from years past and that is a fact.

How many of those District DIII and DIV teams played in sectionals with majority TVC teams?
