GAHS boys, girls win meet at Oak Hill

Gallipolis boys, girls win Division II
Oak Hill Invitational track, field meet;
Wheelersburg Division III champions

Gallia Academy’s High School boys and girls won the Division II Oak Hill Invitational track and field meet Friday night at Oak Hill High School. Wheelersburg walked away with the Division III title.

In the girls Division II division, GAHS defeated Fairland 128-101 to improve its record to 4-2. In the boys Division II finals, GAHS edged Minford, 88 to 87.50to improve to 5-1. Wheelersburg’s boys won the Division III title over Chesapeake, 109-37.

On the day which included 15 boys' teams in 17 events and 10 girls teams in 17 events. Gallipolis finished with 216 points in both the girls and boy's events while Wheelersburg came away with 128 points.

In the girls division, Gallipolis captured first in the 100 meter dash by Hannah Watts in 13.67, good for 10 points. Taylor Queen was fifth in 14.22, good for four points.

Gallipolis won the 4 by 200 meter relay in 1:56.19 for 10 points. Runners were Taylor Queen, Kathleen Allen, Breanna West and Abby Wiseman.

The Blue Angels also won the 4 by 100 meter relay in 54:63, good for 10 points. Runners were Taylor Queen, Andrea Edelmann, Breanna West and Abby Wiseman.

Hannah Watts picked up Gallia’s fourth first place by winning the girls 4 00 meter dash in 11:02.1 good for 10 points. Watts also won the 200 meter dash in 27.76 for another 10 points.

Gallia Academy’s sixth first place came in the 4 by 400 meter relay in 4:34.26, good for 10 points. Runners were Abby Wiseman, Naomi Sabastian, Hally Caldwell, and Hannah Watts.

The GAHS girls placed fifth in the 4 by 800 meter relay in 12:44.95,good for four points. Gallia Academy’s Kathleen Allen placed third in the 100 meter hurdles for six points.

In the girls 3200 meter run, Madison Holley was third in 12:48.66 for six points and Elizabeth Holley was eighth in 13:47.33 for one point.

In the girls 1600 meter run, Gallia’s Madison Holley placed fourth in 5:51.05 for five points. In the 800 meter run, Gallia’s Abby Wiseman was sixth in a time of 2:44.93 for three points.

GAHS boys captured one first place event—Joel Craft claimed the pole vault event with a jump of 12 feet, six inches for 10 points.

In the boys 100 meter dash, Jeremy Wilson placed second in the finals with a time of 12:01 for eight points. Oak Hill’s Tucker Rhodes won the event in 11.96.

GAHS placed second in the 4 by 800 meter relay in 9:06.14 for 10 points. Runners were Winston Wade, Griffin McKinness, Blake Wilson and Michael Edelmann.

Gallipolis placed third in the 4 by 200 meter relay in 1.:40.06 for six points. Runners were Wade Jarrell, Wes Jarrell, Logan Allison and Jeremy Wilson.

GAHS placed second in the 4 by 100 meter relay in 45.74 for eight points. Runners were Shaylin Logan, Wade Jarrell, Logan Allison and Jeremy Wilson.

Shaylin Logan was fourth in the 400 meter dash in 54.98 for five points. Winston Wade finished fifth in the 800 meter run in 2:14.94 for four points. In the 3200 run, Michael Edelmann placed third in 10:52.05 for six points. In the 4 by 400 meter relay, GAHS was second in 3:48.07 for eight points.

In the boys high jump, GAHS placed seventh and eighth as Logan Allison went five feet, six inches for 2.50 points and 5 feet, four inches for .50 point.

Following Craft’s first place and 10 points in the pole vault, Griffin McKinniss place third with a 10-foot jump and six points. Logan Allison placed second in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 .75 inches. Wade Jarrell was fourth with a jump of 19 feet, .75 inches good for five points. Caleb Campbell placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 10.50 inches, good for three points.

Gallipolis’ next outing is April 26 at Athens.
