... the name of the game is DEFENSE ... VC has the offensive weapons Naylan Yates/Jake Speakman leading the way ... they have the inside presence to keep opposing defenses honest by having to stay grounded vs the VC Bigs in Damron/Griffith ... in my mind the offense HAS BEEN THERE even with Naylan Yates sidelined BUT that "in your pocket" man2man D hasn't been there ... giving up waaaay too many points (ie. 84 vs Nelsonville York) ... the goal is holding your opponent to 50 points or less - in most games THAT will get you a "W" vs anyone ... I also KNOW that Coach Combs & Co. are /have been focusing on the D as well ... nothing I will say or anyone else says is news to Coach Combs LOL - Coach Combs, Coach Kite, Coach Carpenter, Coach Yates THEY will get it done ... just as getting the troops refining their NEW roles on the TEAM ... Speakman will continue to get to the rim BUT you will begin to see him looking to penetrate and dish more, more under control & using others more - he doesn't need to carry the team - Naylan is back, Naylan will take a lot of that pressure to carry the team off of Jake Speakman's shoulders ... JS will be figuring out that Bartoe was more than just scoring he was a floor leader defensively as well ... the PG position is the most important position on the floor for a reason ! it is a HARD position to play as there are sooooooo many roles rolled into one - the PG literally and figuratively "runs the show" ... Vinton County WILL BE FINE ... Vinton County is STILL an Elite 8 TEAM imo , the Vikings will be back in the top 8 sooner than later ...
