Some of these guys with experience just keep switching schools regardless of their records and are hired because someone knows someone and It's the same in the college game. You would think at the high school level the powers that be would sometimes open up these jobs to a wider range of prospects when hiring but it doesn't happen in SEO very much. Heck, some of them don't even post the job outside of their inner circle and then 4 or 5 years down the road try the same thing again ?Barber1973 wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 2:19 pm Feel bad for the boys. Sounds like Athens when they hired Camplin and Miller over Adams. You could argue that single decision is what killed the SEOAL1987chieftains wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 3:12 pmThats the most aggravating part of the whole thing.Barber1973 wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 2:19 pm Feel bad for the boys. They wanted out for a long time and finally got their wish so they could beat their chests and win most all the league trophies yearly against mostly inferior opposition.

If this is true.....you will never see Penrod on Logan's sideline under this administration.Barber1973 wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 2:19 pm Feel bad for the boys. At the time administration told penrod didnt have enough experience

Seems like he pretty happy at Gallia Academy. Winning there quicker then most peeps thought. I also never c him comming back as long as the A.D. stays the same

Again, goes back to the AD. I cannot understand for the life of me how seeing a football facility as nice and large as ours being half full (if not less) every Friday is acceptable. “Football pays the bills” as they say. If that’s the case, we are and have been running in the negative. My opinion is Pernod would do a fine job. Sad that our administration is a barrier to this even potentially being an option (in the past or future). We need to stop acting like we are an “Ohio State” type school and realize we are more in line with a “Wisconsin”. We are not a powerhouse and therefore we will not have power coaches lining up to coach here. We need to grow a young coach who has a talent. This takes an AD being able to see the talent when it is in front of them.

Dale was pretty young when he took over after Perry left. Maybe early 30's.

Again, I think it is time to change, start with the School Board, Administration, and coaching staff or pay to play will start soon! Sadly we are losing community support!moonshine wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 7:05 am The time has come to start planning for a total change from the top to the bottom. Maybe even the AD might have to go! If you think the AD is the sole decision maker in hiring and firing of coaches then you don't understand the way the system works. When Logan has hired coaches in the last ten years - at least in the "profile" sports (football, basketball) there has been input from principals, the AD, the superintendent, other coaches, and the school board.Chief02 wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 9:34 pm Again, goes back to the AD. Heck, when Burke was hired there was an entire committee that included Dale Amyx that made the decision.
From what I know of that process, the BIG mistake they made (IMO) was not hiring the coach at Johnstown who applied.
In hindsight, its easy to say they should have hired Penrod. But heck, Gallipolis didn't hire him either and he was on staff there. Luckily for Gallipolis they got a second chance and didn't screw it up. I don't think Logan will get a second chance unfortunately.

Re: Chillicothe (3-1) @ Logan (1-3)
Dale got the chance to learn on the job. He took some lumps early. But that experience (IMO) laid the foundation for him figuring out how to dominate when he had outstanding talent. Talent alone can't go undefeated four times in ten years. It took a coach who learned a lot of lessons to get those teams to play at such a high level.1987chieftains wrote: Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:49 am Dale was pretty young when he took over after Perry left. Dale's first 8 years:
1990: 2-8
1991 - 7-3
1992 - 6-4
1993 - 6-4
1994 - 7-3
1995 - 2-8
1996 - 3-7
1997 - 4-6
37-43 record.
The class of '97 (1996 senior season) was a really highly rated class that underachieved.

You'll never see Penrod back because - believe it or not - coaches have lives outside of football. He has a family and is now roots in Gallipolis. Even when he was at Alex he was commuting from Gallia County. Don't think he or the family are looking to move away.noreply66 wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 7:23 pmIf this is true.....you will never see Penrod on Logan's sideline under this administration.Barber1973 wrote: Tue Sep 18, 2018 2:19 pm Feel bad for the boys. Good for him, and bad for the Chiefs. But proud of what he's accomplished at Alexander and Gallipolis.
