Last night I made my first visit to Kings Stadium in Kings Mills, Ohio to watch the all star game with players from teams in the Southwestern Ohio Football Coaches Association. The East leads the series 26-18 and has won 12 of the last 13 meetings and last night was one, if not their most dominating showing during the current streak.
The West started with a loud bang when, Ty Mincy (Mt. Healthy) exploded out of the backfield, to gain 33 yards. The drive fizzled in a hurry, leading to a punt. The East offense could only gain 32-yards on the ensuing drive thanks in a large part to a sack by Jalen Engleman (Winton Woods) on quarterback Josh Taylor (Western Brown).
The East made quick work of the West offense then after getting the ball back, Nak’emon Williams (kings) went untouched for a 75-yard touchdown to make this a 6-0 game, with 2:30 left in the opening quarter. Cam Anderson (Waynesville) would miss the point after and the game remained 6-0.
Brian Doneghy (Sycamore) would block a punt, with :42 left in the quarter.
On the ensuing drive Taylor hooked up with Jermaine Wimpye (Princeton) for a 42-yard gain to end the quarter. On the play the West defender never looked for the ball, thus allowing the easy completion.
The East would make it 13-0 on a 6-yard run from Williams, with 11:35 remaining in the half.
Doneghy, would block another punt, but this time he would not only catch the ball, he would spring in for a touchdown, after the point after kickoff of the foot of Anderson the score was 20-0, with 5:58 left in the half.
The east defense would end the half, with a sack of Daemon Cherry (Northwest) by CeArye Hall (Withrow)
At the half the East had gained 145 yards compared to 101 foe the West.
Andre Allen Jr. (Walnut Hills) from the East squad bobbled the 2nd half kick kickoff but picked it up and raced 91-yards for another score. The point after kicked upped the lead to 27-0, with 11:48 left in the third quarter. The game had been over way before this though this play completely left no doubt as to the final outcome.
Cherry would connect with Jamal Kelly (Mt. Healthy) for a 31-yard gain to give the West some hope of at least scoring. That hope ended when the west coughed the ball up and taking it out of mid air was Taylor to give the East the ball.
Taylor back at quarterback would spring 24-yards for the next East score to make this a 33-0 game, with 3:47 left in the third.
Both teams would score once in the final frame.
The West used a 26-yard run from Cherry to set up their score. A 1-yard plunge by Mincy, after the point after from Kyle Farfsing (Harrison) we had ourselves a 33-7 game, with 9:14 left.
The East would set their score up when Antony Carmichael (Waynesville) found Andre Allen Jr. (Walnut Hills) for a 24 yard gain, all the way down to the West 18-yard line. From there Carmichael hooked up with Wimpye for the 18-yard score to make this a 39-7 game.
Ha’jiere Pitts would electrify to large crown on the ensuing kickoff, when he returned it 89 yards to the East 8-yard line.
The West would get two sacks from Sterling Snell (Cincinnati Country Day) to end any hopes of a score. The game ended early, with about a minute left on the clock because TJ Jordan took a clean vicious hit and when he pounced up off of the ground he threw a couple of punches at the East player. The refs called the game off right after the thrown punches.
